Күн бұрын

It's time for another monthly shopping trip to Walmart! We are a family of 10 living on a single income from our home-based business. These monthly trips are to stock up mainly on pantry items I can't get at my small, local store. (We shop there weekly for fresh foods and to stock up on sale items.) This month we've already got most of the things we need for any upcoming parties/holidays so we don't need quite as much as we did last month. We spent $493 today. Along with our weekly trips to our small local store and a bulk food order, we spent about $110-$125 per family member in February for food and household/baby items.

I recently went plant based. As in eating whole foods, no meat or dairy. I thought It be way more expensive but I'm actually saving about half on my groceries! I just need to go more often for the fresh stuff. I buy a ton of dried beans and lentils, quinoa, rice, potatos. Those last me forever and super affordable. Plus the health benefits are crazy. I've lost 30 lbs in 2 months just by cutting out processed crap.

You should have titled this video "Where are the watermelon seeds?" I shop once a month at either Aldi or Sam's and then every other week I use Walmart grocery. I order my groceries online and pick them up at the store the next day. I don't even have to get out of the car. I save so much money not going into the store. We are a homeschool family of 6 in SC.

I'm so glad you ran the math on the food, it does look like so much all together, but the whole snack per day and pop on Taco Tuesday for a month makes it look like a lot. I had been trying to figure out why Mountain Dew was your pick me up of choice then remembered that it has caffeine in the US which it doesn't in Canada, which basically renders it useless as a beverage. lol

I am just now catching up on watching my favorite KZbin videos. I think your haul looks right on target. I only had 4 children but my kids always had friends over, especially during the latter middle school days and throughout their high school years. Preparing food for so many people was just normal for me then. At the grocery store, people would look at me like I was nuts...with all my items piled high in my buggy. But that is what its took to feed us! Now that my children are grown, its usually just hubby and me for our meals. For about 3 years, I continued to prepare more food than what we needed to have at mealtime! it was so hard to break the habit. I didn't cook for like, a dozen people...but I would cook about 6-8 servings. It took effort to get better at this..and now (just in the past year) I have learned to cook 2-4 servings unless I am making a casserole. Whew! My big cooking days are done. ( Until they all come over for family night..and bring the grandkids!! Love it!)

I remember going through that when Tom and I first got married. I grew up in a family of 7 and was used to cooking that way. When I started cooking for 2 of us, it was a bit strange!

Always jealous when I see these videos! :( prices here in Canada for groceries are tough to manage. My boyfriend and I pay $300 per person, per month. (that does include household items too though, but that's a small portion of the bill) and that's with me usually only getting one meal a day. bf has 2 eggo waffles for breakfast every single day, and dinner leftovers plus small snacks for lunch. I've tried to cut corners as best as I can, but kinda gave up. Thankfully we can afford it, but it still feels excessive. But I used to spend $1500+ a month on food so I suppose I've come a long way.

We do most of our shopping with Walmart and have it delivered because both my husband and I are somewhat disabled. I think Walmart is great but prices on meat are just too high, that's everywhere we live. I'm out here in California. I'm amazed sometimes as I watch grocery hauls from other states and see how low the prices are on meat. Not to change the subject Andrea but there is a great place online to shop especially for kids parties and favors also for everyday goods, very reasonably priced. The name of it is Hollar.com and it's free shipping with $25.00 purchase. I think you would like it.

At first, my reaction was that you could save so much money by making your biscuits, brownies, krispies treats, cakes, ect from scratch... _aaaand_ then I took all my recipes and scaled them up 9 times. NOPE. I literally do not own bowls big enough to accommodate most of those, not to mention how much longer it would take to prepare so many batches in a home kitchen. Now I get why it's worth it to buy those things pre-made.

I absolutely adore these videos!! I agree, I spend less when I shop in a big trip versus mini trips. When my step-daughter lived with us, though, I had to change to mini trips or she'd eat EVERYTHING I bought to last a week or two! It would be gone in days. Shopping in small batches became a necessity. LOL Hope your seeds made it home with you! Those and kool-aid packets are the worst!

When I get home with my grocery I just take one bag in and put it away, and then the next one. I don't take all the bags in at one time because is really chaotic. It works for me! Karen

Hi Andrea, I love your shopping vlogs, so interesting. When you said about the rain I thought you should come to Wales, it rains so much. Wish Eden a happy birthday, thankyou for sharing 😊

I love ordering from Walmart.com but their packing is absolutely terrible. I ordered a bunch of laundry detergent and while they DID tape the bottles' tops, they put them all in one big box with one twist of paper. The box was ripped at a seam from the weight, and completely burst when I tried to move it into the house. They will mix crushable and heavy stuff together too. I still use them, but I must say amazon does a MUCH better job with packing.

Andrea, I love your family, they don't seem to go without, just because your a large family. I think you could cut back on snacks and make more homemade for them. Sauce could be put on the stove during the am hours, since you do home school your right there to watch it. Please make sure the children have coats on, it can't be that hot there. All of you make such a beautiful family. God Bless Hilda

Thank you for the suggestions, Hilda. I'm not super woman, though! I used to do much more homemade but a few years ago I had to prioritize. I'm sure the day will come when I have things ironed out. (Keeping up on this channel takes a few hours a day, for one thing!) You might be interested in learning about the old heliotherapy hospitals that accomplished healing through sunlight and cool air. We try to go without coats on purpose for short times outside. It's done wonders for our immune systems. Ill health is a true rarity at our house (in spite of what all of the "sugary snack" haters assume!)

Wow $125 per person! I usually spend around $200 week just for my husband and myself here in PEI Canada.

I know eh! My husband and I do about $200-250/person/month in Alberta. We also get all our hamburger for free from my dad so it would probably be much more if we had to pay for that.

Janina Van Harberden Definitely glad to hear that I'm not completely reckless with money! We pay around $600 a month for the two of us. I always try and cut anything unnecessary out as best as I can, but I just can't seem to get our weekly trip any lower than $130-$150.

Kerry McDougall I live in Manitoba and I spend $1000 to $1200 a month for a family of six. And depending on the time of year, I'm not always getting the fruits and veggie I want :(

Before watching ur videos I thought that your weather would have been much colder and more snow then here in Ohio however our weather seems very similar. We have had Temps in the 50/60 for about a week here and everyone has their flip-flops and shorts out. lol.

We use Dawn in the big jug. I find it way better than any other dish soap. It degreases the best and last longer as you don't have to use so much.

Also, look into menstrual cups! I know it's weird I was off put by it at first but saw Itsjustkelli on YT review the Diva cup and I am forever changed!!! Trying to get my girls to switch but I totally get not wanting to put anything in there at their age. I'm changing them to the natural pads (they have natural tampons too) that are much better. I've only had the cup for 2 months and already my cramps arent as bad.

It is so funny how different families can purchase different items we have seven children and the only thing that went in your cart that we also buy was computer paper.
