With all due respect to the people commenting here, I think many of you have some crazy unrealistic expectations of OM System. First, we don't know the full details of this camera, and as Andrea says and those who actually shoot cameras rather than argue specifications know, specs alone don't make for a camera you want to own and use - and that is not knowable until it's in hand for a while. Then there are these posts crying about "new tech" - like what??? IBIS? No, best going. Computational features? Nope, most advanced in the market. Better weather proofing? No, the only company to publish standard IP rating. Better video? For a videographer, then yes, but OMS cameras are for photographers first. Higher resolution sensor? Only if there were a sensor larger then 20Mp that had as good or better dynamic range and high ISO performance as the sensor in the OM-1 - and there isn't, yet. We know that from tests of the Lumix 25Mpb sensor. What other camera companies are introducing models with truly "new tech" and not just a repackaging of features from their products? Oh, and for those who seem to love to crap on OM System just because they are not Olympus, please list all the times that Olympus introduced "breakthrough" new tech model on model? By my view there was the original E-M5, the E-M1 Mk II (after a ton of firmware updates), maybe the E-M1X, and the OM-1. Oh, yes, this is not a PEN-F II - the current wonder camera that the whole world desires. But, does it? If range finder cameras are such the rage, then why don't we see super popular models from Canon, Nikon, and Sony? Does it not matter that the original PEN-F cost Olympus money over it's run? How does Fuji get such an inflated price for the X100IV (US $1,600) when it has a fixed lens, is not weather proof, and has not nearly the features of this OM-3? In 2024 US dollars, the original PEN-F would sell for $1,567. Make a list of all the things the PEN-F does *not* have, or can't do, that the OM-3 does or can, and then tell me that it's not worth just $300.00 more. We all want *our* dream camera. I have shot Olympus since the film days and have a huge investment in Olympus and OMS gear (including a PEN-F), but I know they can't build a camera for everyone. What OMDS is doing is logically rebuilding a brand and product line which Olympus had given up on years ago, taking over during the COVID world-wide crisis and in a stagnate market. Be fair, be objective, and give this camera a chance.

The build quality is far better than Canon, Nikon, and Fuji cameras - even those costing a lot more money. it also has tech than no other brand has in cameras anywhere near the price or and more. A sensor readout speed that makes electronic shutter usable - unlike far more expensive cameras from the major brands. If Canon, Nikon, Sony, or Fuji released a camera this good it would have you all gushing.

@@tdunster2011 the problem is OM needs to gain customers and when Nikon ZF is 1800 and a lot of Fujis stuff lands between 1300-1700, this is a tough way to convince people. Spend more on MFT but you'll get better readout speed and build quality? Also better build quality is questionable cause I have a ZF and the OM1, both feel fantastic

I like the sound of the camera. My main hope is that Apple will add its .ORF details to the Photos app quickly, so RAW photos can be viewed on iPhones. My second hope is that the price comes down a tad. The specs are fine - if it's like the OM-1, it can produce 50Mb handheld which is more than enough for everyday life. I don't know what new tech everyone has in mind when they say they are disppointed? Has any camera maker has added anything new that is a 'must have' feature in the last 12-24 months? I am looking forward to OM-3, and if it's that happy marriage of (90-95%) OM-1 II specs in OM-5 (ish) size = happy days!

Sounds like the sensor used is the Sony IMX472 and can readout the entire 20mp frame at 120 fps 12 bit and other modes even faster. It is limited by the camera's processing power and thermals. The sensor isn't new, but the full capabilities of it have yet to be tapped.

It's good that OM digital have finally released a completely new model but it's going to be a tough sell. The price is the biggest issue in my opinion. Let's not forget this is a M43 sensor, it's up against APSC and even FF offerings at this price point. Perhaps if it shipped with the new mkII 17mm f1.8 included in the price it might make it competitive with the likes of the popular Fujifilm X100 VI. Given new buyers need to also budget for a lens as well this might put many off buying. There's definitely a market out there for this camera, I don't doubt that but it's not going to sell by the bucketload. Heck what do I know, perhaps folk will be waiting months on the pre-order list to get hold of one.

It's got AF and subject detection features the OM-1 doesn't have for starters. It's got a much better battery life as well as a better build quality. It does look cool, but I think they missed the mark on the price - too high and on features - just rehashed existing stuff. Also was hoping for more 1.2 lenses, not 1.8. 1.8 is underwhelming. OM needs to really focus on bridging the gap of their low light abilities with full frame. They say 7.5 stops of better image stabilization, but I’ll be curious to see what hand held shutter speed that translates to at night. Based on all the info so far, I think I’ll just stick with my E-m1 mark II for daytime stuff and my Nikon D600 for low light. Overall so far disappointed, but I am still hoping they still somehow find success, since I want OM system to continue, but I’d be _very_ surprised if this is a hit. I know a lot of people wanted a new pen F, so I guess maybe those people might be drawn to this (?). I guess we’ll see in a few hours 🤔

How do people not get it already? It’s over for OM. I have Olympus cameras and lenses and really wanted them to keep developing but they just are not going to do it. They could print money by just putting a new sensor and processor in a PenF mkii but they won’t do that. They won’t do anything that costs them any money at all. This new company is doing everything they can to squeeze every last cent possibly from what was left of Olympus and then they’ll scrap it and move on. I hate it. But it’s reality at this point.

Assuming the video functionality is usable for casual KZbinrs, then I think it could work. It doesn't seem to overheat, and the auto focus is usable for video, so I think it will be fine there. I'd like to sell my EM10iv, and get something that can do both photos and videos in a stylish form factor; the OM10 just is too slow and cheap feeling. It's already cracked. Sure, the OM3 doesn't have the best specs, but I often still shoot with my old EM5 mark 1and I think that old camera's specs are already good enough. The OM3 fixes some of my own issues with the EM5: adds a high res shot mode, has peak focusing support, better low light, usable video, and good cAF. The big downside of this camera is the price. If it was $1299, I'd buy it with a lens. If it was $1400, I'd buy just the body. At $1999, I might need to wait for it to go on sale. I'm in no rush -- I could buy this camera 3 years from now, used, and still be very happy. My Canadian dollar is worth very little right now, so I can't really quite justify it. BUT I DO WANT IT

I remember well when Olympus introduced the Pen-F digital. It was their first camera to use the 20 megapixel sensor (followed a few months later by the EM-1 Mkii). OM systems should have used the OM-3 to introduce a new sensor. That might have given people a reason to buy this camera. All the hype, and then.....this? I'm sure it's a nice camera, and if I didn't already own the OM-1 and the Pen-F, I might be tempted, but only if I already had a pile of m. four-thirds glass sitting around. I don't think this camera is going to get people to buy into the system. Maybe some OM users will buy it for a second body, but it's a bit pricey.

@@jonbarnard7186 For sure. Seemingly OMDS was blinded by the success of the retro SLR-style cameras and thought it was the right way to go. But they had to cripple it to prevent harming OM-1 sales. Art filters on a dedicated knob seems to be what they think is going to bring new people to m43. Om system has lost their way imho. Please tell me what this has over a slightly used om-1 m1 at half the price or even a used mark II at a little bit more. 2k for this is a joke. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s going to be a huge seller for om systems. I need to see the full official specs, before I will decide on this one. Based on what we are told the only reason for getting this for me would be the AF enhancements over the OM-5. I am rather on the fence over the tuning option for colour profiles. I still am not settled on the jpeg vs raw part of my photography journey, especially when it comes to the kind of tuning that this camera seems to possess. As a relative novice skills wise in Lightroom, I find it difficult to get raw files that fit the tweaked jpegs. It is easy in normal circumstances to say take your raw into lightroom and apply the profiles in the dev module, but when you are working with tuned jpegs, thus shortcut is gone. I do like the flexibility that the colour profiles allow, but I will be keen to see if the OM-3 has the more normal custom settings as well. The E-P7, which has the colour profiles/tuning, loses the ability to have custom settings in the conventional manner. An OM-3 with both could be worth having. Something of a mix between OM-1, OM-5, and E-P7. Nothing really new, but a new combination. At the moment my goto camera is the E-P7. Maybe the OM-3 could let me sell the E-P7 and OM-5, and reduce the number of cameras on my shelf, slightly.

Seems fun camera but who is it for? Audience in their 20s might not even know about OM System. That it comes from legendary Olympus. Nor would they put 1999 monies on their first camera. 40s people might be somewhat willing, I think. Seniors only care family and travel. I don't think they have the capability to make a new camera based on a new sensor, or any sensor that Olympus didn't give them the design. If we ever get a truly new camera from OM Systems it will be designed by Sigma or Yongnuo or some other company, and rebadged for a premium price.

@@MikeC2K10I absolutely agree. I believe all this is OMS carrying out the Olympus projects and manufacturing contracts. They’re probably too far in to be able to adjust to a rapidly shifting market. OMS has become Vivitar.

Doesn't really make sense when an X-T5 is $1,700. I know everything is more expensive now but I think this would be appealing at like $1,300. I still think they should have chased the rangefinder form with a new Pen-F.

I don’t understand why OM made the camera wider than the OM-5. Is it just to accommodate the switch on the front of the body? I was holding off on purchasing a new OM camera until I heard more about this, but I think I’ll wait until it hits the used market.

Apples to oranges. The lens catalog for Fuji for instance is quite different (and in some ways, inferior) to that of M4/3. Not everyone wants to process 40mp files, not everyone gets on with the autofocus on Fuji's, etc. There is a place for both cameras.

Perhaps with an app or platform for sharing luts. It needed better social media integration. It needs to capture the casual photographer.

Release this exact camera here in PEN F form factor and I'll pay $2k for it all day long. As far as this camera here goes? Hard pass. That doesn't mean I think this camera "sucks" or that "nobody should buy it." It certainly is not a camera for me, personally. I'm curious what market OM thinks they're really targeting with this camera and if those folks would have been put off by a PEN body. A PEN Fii might have kept that hoped for target audience while also picking up the crowd that already is willing to pay $1000 for a used PEN F that's almost 10 years old... Well, that's not the path we're on so we can't ever really know... And at this point, if they release the PEN Fii to pick up the fans, I expect they see that as a risk for having some of the market that settled for the OM3, go to the PEN Fii instead, hurting final volume for the OM3. Sigh.
@Centauri27
@Centauri27 5 сағат бұрын
Yeah, dunno why they thought a retro "SLR" style camera would sell better than a retro rangefinder style. If this camera tanks, then they'll definitely be too scared to do a PEN-F Mk II. They may very well go out of business at that point (or become a Pentax).

So the existing base of Olympus fans seem to be underwhelmed, especially by the price vs. performance. I get that. I guess OM Systems isn't looking to the existing base. It then must be looking at new non-MFTs customers. Are they going to choose this over a wide range of Fuji's in the same space? At this price? Maybe not. I can only expect that it will launch at a higher price and settle in where it might tempt some existing MFTs fans and some Fuji wannabes that won't wait for Fuji's shunted supply to come... Kind of gamble for a company seemingly looking to buy back credibility. Especially when a rangefinder with an EVF (OK slap on a PEN-F colour dial to keep the kids happy) and Bob's-your-uncle - homerun amongst the existing MFT crowd and some potential amongst newcomers. Almost all Olympus products are stylist. I assume that'd be a given. Good luck OMS. Really.

In my humble opinion, it will sell 10x more if it was a true replacement of the Pen F. OM-3? It was never a best seller in it's original incarnation. If it is named as the OM-2n or OM-4Ti should have sold better.

it's just priced too much at $2000. You can get a Nikon zf for $1800 or a fujis xt50 for $1400. Of course this has some bonuses but not in every way and if OM wants to convert new customers to MFT this isn't it. Your pricing MFT more than full frame and apsc. Will it be a bad camera? Not saying that, I have an OM1 and love it. But I don't think this price point is going to grow OM as a brand
