More info about the soon to be announced new Sony 50mm f/1.4 GM

This lens really has to shine in terms of weight, size and optical performance cause that price tag is way too high. I was thinking of switching the Zeiss Planar for the new one but that price is ridiculous considering the Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.4 costs 1300 and is still an excellent lens! The price difference between the 1.2 is to small, if I hadn't the Zeiss I'd rather buy the 1.2 for the rather small 20% price difference extra. (Actually less) Luckily we got the sigma which is affordable and excellent enough!

My particular 50 1.2 GM is absolutely spectacular. The sharpness, vignetting, color and focus speed of the 1.4 will have to be mind blowing for me to change. But I am open and curious to see a head to head. Also, any further updates on the 16-35 GM II??

Less distortion is important especially if you make prints.

Great while Canon is bombarding customers with great value new cameras we are talking about a 1800$ redundant lens! Nice to have but more leaks about the coming new camera please! If it's any exciting at all!

Wow I was holding up buying a 50 1.4 lens for 4 years now. I was waiting for the sigma 50 1.4 but now Sony has my attention. Sony lineup had a deficit of good and affordable 50 mm lenses.

Ridiculous price, totally redundant with he 1.2 GM, only people with advanced Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) will buy it. Again, a FE 50mm f/1.4 G priced $600-700 would have made infinitely more sense ... and more $$$ to Sony.

...If it cost '$600-700' it damn sure would not be a GM/of GM quality... A perfect example: Sony's FE 20 f/1.8 'G' lens is absolutely outstanding, one of Sony's all-time best price-to-performance values... it still costs $800... but it is not on par optically by any means with the FE 24 or 35/1.4 GMs, which cost $500-600 more....
