Very deliberate intonation creating an abundance of clarity. No reliance on vibrato to mask the pitch or slurring the rhythm and an artistic liberty only within the reasonable constraints that were described by Handel and other composers of the time. A true marvel of skill as shown by Scholl. Really what I imagine the composers intended and my preferred interpretation of any early music of the time for any alto aria.

This aria was written for a castrato to sing. With respect, and as a retired female contralto singer myself, this aria is never sung better by a female singer by pure definition. As much as I love to sing it myself, it is anachronistic and inauthentic for any but a male voice to sing it.

HI I simply can't connect the gravity of the awesome scripture to this vocal interpretation. Total disconnect! The emphasis on technique is oblterating the meaning of the text! ' And who can abide'????? WHO INDEED??? The interpretation MUST reflect the earth shaking reality of the text. NOT make pretty music at it's expense. Shalom to you in Christ Yeshua the subject of the scripture!

Tolle Stimme. Leider wird Händel von den meisten Orchestern absolut langweilig und spannungslos gespielt. Händel ist kraftvolle und vitale Musik, reich an tänzerischen Elementen und harmonischen Raffinessen. Händel ist mit Sicherheit keine (!!) romantische Musik. Er muss gut artikuliert sein. Das Orchester spielt, als wären sie auf einem sinkenden Schiff.
