i had the honor of meeting Segovia in 1977. As a new guitarist, of course, it was like meeting God. Certainly the most important figure to ever grace this wonderful instrument.

My brother & I bought a lot of his LPs back in the 60s- finally watching him perform doesn't help- the incredible Liquid Tone and attack... I'm not any better off than back then- he is just too much for us regular folk.. maybe the greatest tone master ever. Bless you for posting.... funny how his stature grows tremendously each decade.... or maybe it's VERY understandable.

My explanation is that he made a deal with the devil, he would be the most amazing guitar player ever and in return had to spend his whole life looking like Alfred Hitchcock. I would gladly spend my whole life looking like anything to play like that! My favorite guitar player EVER (followed by Jimi Hendrix).

His fingers are very strong as we get old we get fat unless your like a bird. Playing the classical guitar is hard work for a young man or woman. As you get older your Brain is as good as new . Your body finds it harder. But Ardres has so much passion for the Guitar its was his Life

Smoke on the Water. There's no surviving recording of it, but those who were there say Segovia's performance was even better than the original. Not surprising, considering his great form with Torroba's Fandanguillo.

I have heard tell that it is written that Segovia was arrogant, in Segovia arrogance and humility are two sides of one coin. The humility is expressed in the music. Humility is not without its arrogance and strength -- the strength of the soil.

I agree, I don't consider myself a "deaf worshipper," If you watch some of Segovia's videos spanning his career, there are alot of erratic performances. That being said, the man had a clear passion for guitar, and some pieces he NAILS (like this and Sevilla), others (like Rodrigo or Bach) get pretty crazy. He's still a legend regardless.

My favorite was the Cuban-American classical guitarist who also did a little Flemenco (Buleria, Solea). Rey de la Torre's maestro was Miguel Llobet, who was Francisco Tarrega's finest pupil. There were 2 clear traditions in classical quitar one descending from Tarrega and the other from Segovia, although I love both. To my ears, Jose Rey de la Torre was truer to the music but both were great. (only my opinion) I also love Carlos Montoya and someone far from classical guitar......Chet Atkins.

Can an "Rock God" to play a melody as "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" with the same technique and mastery? -Can an "Rock god" to play a fluid tremolo with bass like a clasical o flamenco guitar player using with perfect cordination and cadency his 4 or 5 hand fingers? -Can an "Rock god" to play without classical or flamenco training and techniques, without electric guitar electronic effects, melodies so complex and beautyful as this ? -Just a question.

Look at older videos and pictures (when he was younger) and you'll see that he had really "clumsy" fingers even in his youth. It was related to his body type most likely.

first of all let me say that i myself have bony fingers. and i've noticed that dudes who have more girth on their fingers cover more ground it seems. so they have a kind of natural control that dudes like me can't exactly get. i don't feel that i do to bad as a player. but i do feel i have to work a little harder at it than the guys with the girthy (fat)fingers.

That would make sense if only his left hand was larger than his right, but they seem to be pretty much the same size. This leads me to believe he has pretty huge hands naturally. I'm not saying that the playing didn't make his left hand any bigger, i'm sure it did. Look at his pinky, jeesh...
