@@kathymyers7279 Sorry to say, but calling her "narrow minded" is only showing what kind of person you are. And yes, she is right about the way dancers and companies are supported in the US. They are non-profit, they depend on donations and benefactors, AKA rich "patrons". What is so horrible for the government to offer money and other benefits to artists? Labeling her as "a socialist" only speaks of your own convictions. And frankly, I am not sure if you really know what socialism is and how it operates. It is so sad to read such comments. I am writing this during the COVID pandemic, so I reflect on the issues artists are going through. The British government granted a good amount of money to the arts to support the artists and the artistic institutions. What did the US government do for Broadway, NYC Ballet, ABT? ..

I’m watching this in 2021,less than a week after Steven McRae’s return to the stage after his ruptured Achilles tendon injury.Now I know exactly what Sarah Lamb must have been feeling after their performance of Romeo and Juliet and why it was as emotional for her as it was for him as they took the curtain calls! I wish I could convey how much you have impacted me. Just from 2 KZbin videos so far. Watching you dance feels like it made me more capable of dancing. Your beingness is admirable, inspirational and something to emulate to make me a better person. For my no trained eyes her performance is beautiful and perfect, and in my opinion, the most important, it is emotional, she can transmit feelings, it isn't just a serie of steps in a sequence with some music. She is perfectly able to tell a story through her dance. May be another professional dancer as expert as she is can see little imperfections to improve. Sorry for my English, it is very deficient.

Sarah Lamb is so intelligent, logical, and interesting. It's in English so she can't be compared to ballet dancers who are interviewed in a language foreign to them. But Sarah is so much more articulate than American ballet dancers interviewed from NYCB for example. She is very much a complete person. Not to mention a great artist.

Which specific inarticulate dancers are you talking about, please? Perhaps a better question is, how many American dancers are you even aware of, besides the infamous Mist Copeland? I think the trope about American ignorance is so old and tired and in many ways so untrue. I know you specified dancers, but I see this kind of comment far too often, when my experience as an American myself is so different. And what about Australians?? Do you find Stephen McRae “more articulate” than most Australian ballet dancers? And believe you me, there is a whole lot of evidence of uneducated, incoherent people in the UK online which I think more educated Brits like to forget about. Just watch reruns of the Jeremy Kyle show.

I am deeply disturbed that Sarah got injured while performing a step in Manon where several other dancers got injured too. Is the choreographer a sadist? Take the got dern step OUT of the ballet, for heaven's sake. What's wrong with these people. This shows zero respect and caring for the dancers.

I meant my cultural experience and upbringing in Boston was more similar to a city like London than to a rural American setting which some people imagine when they think of “America.” I would NEVER put myself above anyone else- and that was not my intention, nor do I believe that that is what I said.

Wonderful interview. I know she probably meant no offense with her Oklahoma tractor driver stereotype, but she should be aware that it was a poor choice of phrasing. I am a pianist who trained at a conservatory in New York, and subsequently the Royal Academy of Music in London.....and just so happen to have grown up surrounded by cornfields in the humble state of Iowa. Yes, I can milk cows *and* play 5-voice fugues..ha... :)

I totally agree with you, especially depending on where you go to school. My friend went from a small Midwestern ballet company in high school to the Ballet West program at the University of Utah, and it definitely wasn’t a waste of her time, OR her intelligence. I’m not sure how many dancers Lamb knows from university programs, so, as the usual run of people do, she puts down what she didn’t experience herself, probably bc her sisters achieved university degrees and she didn’t. Even high powered ballet dancers have insecurities!
