Genuine question for those of you who are still hurt by Andrew Luck's abrupt retirement: If anything, what will it take for you forgive/move on? Will it take serious team success and the Colts finally recovering?
@ChristopherRMcClain

I respect Andrew for putting his health first, but the o line narrative is ridiculous, Andrew looked for contact for 5-6 years. That contact was on Andrew, not his teammates or the franchise. My issue with Andrew has nothing to do with anything he did, it was the time that we missed with Peyton. 5 years & 2 superbowls with Peyton is the only thing that would allow me to move past the Luck Era. Again I respect him putting himself first but the narrative that Andrew wasn't the biggest factor of the injuries he sustained is ridiculous. Andrew thank you for everything you did for the city, but Peyton has a children's hospital that saved my sisters life named after him for what he gave to the city.

Anybody who is mad about his retirement is delusional and selfish. He would have spent the rest of his days disabled and in agony had he continued the push his body through season after season and the second he physically fell off he would have been cut and replaced.

Showed up sooner? He showed up in his prime! His major injury happened on a snowboard, not a football field... Ballard built him an O-line that QBs dream about... when you're drafted #1 overall, the team around you isn't going to be very good... Manning played the year before with a garbage O-line but knew how to get rid of the ball... luck held onto the ball and brought most of those hits on himself... luck quit on the Colts franchise end of story... he could've retired after the playoff game with the chiefs but didn't... He set the franchise back 10 years because he liked football but never loved it... I hope AR ends up being a top 5 QB so Luck can fade away like he deserves... I know he doesn't owe me anything, but he owed Ballard his teammates and fans who paid for season tickets while he knew all along that he was quitting on the team... honestly, the guy makes me sick... when you sign a contact, you honor it, end of story...

@@basilfawlty241How is retiring quiting? He couldn't play that year despite his rehab attempts in the offseason, and instead of going through the grueling experience of getting healthy for the umpteenth time, he decided to call it a career, as every player in the league get to do. Maybe he should of just went in IR and retired in the off-season, but that was all anyone can criticize him for. When he was on the field, he never quit on the team and only blind fans would think otherwise.
@basilfawlty241
@basilfawlty241 5 ай бұрын
@@dacolts89 grueling.. umpteenth time.. just look at the the words you use to add as much emotion into this to justify your idols actions. You don’t get to use the phrase ‘privilege to play’ and grueling at the same time. I’m don’t care how hard or grueling you may believe his rehab is and frankly don’t care how hard it actually is. He gets paid very well and part of that is because the job is demanding. Many people that would pay $100 for a jersey that has his name and number on it have much more grueling lives than he does, or did. Yet they press on because they have no other recourse, that’s life. The machinist that rehabs after losing fingers or hand has harder rehab, and does not get paid while doing it. The road crew that risk being hit by a car on the daily. Or as just witnessed knocked off a bridge only to drown. Do you not understand that the people that watched Luck, that afforded Luck the job in which he could earn 100+ million dollars have equally hard ir not harder lives to worry about? He did not retire spitting up blood. He retired with a lower leg injury. He retired because rehab was ‘hard’ in order to get back on the field to play. But, he did not need to play to get paid. He was getting paid to stay home, and staying home did not even require hard therapy, or any therapy. It’s pretty easy to understand how he quit, if you stop idolizing him.

Capt Andrew Luck was executed by firing squad. For the crime of desertion days before battle. He left his men leader less. Those that would press on into the frey suffered massive casualties. Many unnecessary but for his cowardly and selfish act. However that was not his only crime. As he turned his back and walked away, he did not go with empty hands. No, he looted the regemental supply store worth nearly 25 million dollars. Which was never reclaimed and caused those men to suffer for yet an additional year.

@@basilfawlty241 Okay. Not angst, outright irrational anger. Injuries piled up. I've been through physical rehab, it sucks. He got hit and hurt so much it got into his head on the field. He honestly made the right decision. The timing was my only issue. Hope you have a good day. Go Colts.
@basilfawlty241
@basilfawlty241 5 ай бұрын
@@stevenevins6495 Thank you! Same to you, and such a nice day it is too. I do have a couple things, however. There seems to be some confusion and conflation on this topic. It is a tactic people love to use, it's so common that I'm not sure some people even realize they are doing it. You continue to speak about his retirement as if that is what people would be angry about. I have suggested that that is not at all the issue. The only issue I have is his method, his actions leading up to that moment, and his actions just after. Again, you seem to think you can take the moral high ground and proclaim that his decision was the correct one. You have no authority or insight as to whether his decision to retire was correct or not. You may assume that because he is saying he is happy, and presents as happy, that it is true. However, you have no idea if that is a show for the media or not. Lots of people put on a happy front for the sake of others, that is not uncommon at all. You also have no idea if he would be more happy if he had chosen something different, such as continuing to play football. This is unanswerable by all, even by Luck himself. You have no alternate scenario to base your judgment on. However, based on his own statements, he certainly has regret for the manner in which he did the act. So why can't you accept that there is indeed a different decision in which Luck would have been happier? He has said as much himself. Stop acting like your moral guidance of acceptance is 'good', and that anyone who comes to a different conclusion, therefore, must be wrong. Then we have the issue of you suggesting Alex is irrational. You are just outright wrong about his opinion being irrational, he explicitly stated why he hated Luck and while you may disagree, it is a rational viewpoint. Your opinion on his decision to retire in the manner in which he did is not superior to the one that Alex has. More to the point, you just said you had an issue with his timing. I have submitted that the timing is the only issue. If you're claiming that I am also being irrational, are you being irrational as well given you have the same issue I do? Or, does it come down to the decision you made, to forgive his blunder where I have not? Back to that first thing I said, his decision to retire is irrelevant to this 'anger', his happiness is irrelevant. Neither of these things are the source of 'anger' or perhaps a better word 'disappointment' people may have with Andrew. I'll even give you an example. Jason Kelce just retired, and not one person in the Eagles fanbase has booed him. His long-winded and forced emotional speech may have induced some eye-rolling. But, except for maybe .01% of people, as there are always some, were ok with that decision. I don't hate Luck, I'm fairly indifferent. I wish more people were, we really need to stop talking about him. His legacy as a great QB does not exclude the fact that he did quit on the team. This is not something in dispute. The fans did not know until a media leak during the final preseason game which was the day before he planned to tell the world, his teammates learned in the locker room, and management did not know until it was too late to restructure the roster to make anything good of it. Frankly, what I find more annoying and disappointing than Luck, is the fawning fans, who act as if his decision did not impact this team. That he somehow 'did the right thing'. That he was not misleading the fanbase in those preseason games selling hope to would-be season ticket purchasers. That his plan to announce his retirement the day after the game, after he would receive cheers and admiration while running off the field that final preseason was not for selfish reasons.

Angst? Not sure how that applies. I'm not sure why you supporters can't accept more than 1 thing can be true at the same time. He was a great QB. He covered up a whole lot of holes on a bad team. He is a quitter. He signed up for the season, and bailed without taking the options avaliable to honor his commitment. If he retired in the off-season, no big deal. If he told management to prepare for the season differently, no big deal. If he went on IR designated to return, no big deal. Even if he went on season ending IR, no big deal. Nope, he retired at the end of the last preseason game. His moment ruined by some media hack. Yet at halftime he was all smiles on the sideline. Still selling tickets and hope to the fans. Knowing he was not returning.

I'd be happy too if I walked away with all that money in my prime... Luck did not even try, he retired after sitting on the bench of preseason games. All the time smiling and waving to the crowd. Because of a soft lower leg injury.
