+XtremeHeat_13 Look at the game clock in the upper left corner of the screen and you'll see it is not in sync with the on screen clock. Now watching that clock, count down in your head, 3-2-1-0 then whistle. You must give the zero ALMOST a full second to tick down because as soon as the 0 appears there is still 0.99 seconds left. Watch it again and you'll see they clearly get it off in time.
@Mikey1144119 жыл бұрын
+Christopher ONeil When the clock hits 1 is when there is still 0.99 seconds left. The last second is run off in the time it takes the 1 to turn to a zero. Lets use an example. The college football play clock is 25 seconds once the ball is set. The screen reads "25". 25-24-23-22-21-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-09-08-07-06-05-04-03-02-01-00. The dashes represent the seconds that have elapsed. Count them.. 25 dashes= 25 seconds. The way you are trying to say it is, that there is a mysterious 26th second after the clock hits "00".
@swalte63259 жыл бұрын
+XtremeHeat_13 Only clock that matters in that situation is the back judge's. Teams have until his watch hits zero and he blows the whistle. Doesn't matter what the stadium clock or the ESPN clock says. Play was even reviewed after the fact and the correct call was made.
@Mikey1144119 жыл бұрын
swalte6325 The game clock and play clock operators keep the time. The play clock and game clock are run from the booth upstairs. The play clocks are official. They couldn't overturn the call because it has to be definitive evidence and it wasnt. The officials, in my opinion, missed this one. Reviews don't always produce a correct ruling, see Duke-Miami 9 minute review for further proof.
@swalte63259 жыл бұрын

@RastaToad8 жыл бұрын
it basically goes down like this. A ref is watching the play clock. he sees it hit 00, he then looks towards where the ball is and if the ball hasnt been snapped by then, he calls a penalty. So yes they were delayed but this is the way this rule is enforced. It'd be nice if there was some sort of "shot clock" like in basketball

In the NFL specifically, for several reasons: 1) fakes don't always work 2) very few coaches can make unpopular or unorthodox decisions that don't work and expect to keep their jobs for long (even should those decisions be the statistically correct choice), most coaches are coaching to not get fired; it takes a coach like Bill Belichick to know he's a long way away from being fired and can thus run strange plays (which he does, and which he catches crap for when they don't work out, but he doesn't get fired like other coaches would since long experience and success has given him well deserved armor) 3) the players themselves are faster/smarter/better/stronger/savvier/more experienced/etcetera. They have seen a lot. They WILL get fired if they make mistakes, and should they get out of position they have more savvy to recognize their mistake earlier, more speed for making it up, and more experience on how to minimize the negative outcome. It's "almost" like the NFL field is really much smaller, or at least that's one way of thinking of it, because the players are less likely to make a wrong step, have a lot more speed for covering mistakes, and can even jump higher to close passing lanes, etc.

+Matthew Jackson As Statalyzer stated, it's harder to fool professionals. However, a team's play call throughout the game can inevitably set up a trick play. A coach may even give his players the option to run a trick play instead of the initial play that was called depending on how the opposing team lines up against them.

Yep, no question, the play clock hit :00, but the officials missed it.
@davincilopez14988 жыл бұрын
no..theres a split second before they can call it and that play was just in time wasnt a delay of game
@mrmusicverse8 жыл бұрын
What? I don't follow you.
@RobinClower8 жыл бұрын
The person watching the clock sees it hit 0 and looks to the ball, if it's not snapped by then, it's a delay of game. So even if the clock hits 0, you still have a tiny fraction of a second to snap the ball.

I have respect for vanderbilt's punter towards the end of the video. He put his shoulder down and was ready for contact unlike most punter's is football now days.

If you think about it, no. 8 was one of the dumbest trick plays. Why did they run it in the Hall of Fame Game? Why didn't they save it for a more crucial part of the season?

my point is that it's a preseason game. Why would you give away a trick play in a preseason game? Teams will look for it the rest of the year.

Rams, 2001 - Week 13. Warner backs away from the line throwing a fit and undoes his chin strap while walking towards sideline. Obviously did not like what he say and is calling a time out - NOT. Ball was snapped straight to Marshall Faulk which led to a first down and later a touchdown. I can't find video as of now, but this was a great trick play and acting job by Warner that helped out. True trickery, no rules broken as Warner was the man in motion. None of the others I consider equal to the Ball in Glove trick, but exploiting folks in their comfort zone is on another level and is true trickery in my book, not just creative plays.

for the one that starts at 8:00 - isn't that illegal substitution? I thought they was a rule that said if you substituted, you had to come into the centre of the field before going back to a wide position

@7:42, how is the kicker not down as soon as he catches the ball and before he hands it off to the kicker?
@jasonhodgin17928 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's because he's not down by contact.
