I love and watch every video that Andrew produces. No "concrete expert" here at all; but I work for guys that do a lot of concrete. Two "humble" suggestions to make life easier for a formed slab like this: (1) Right before the pour, spray all insides of the wooden formwork with WD-40. It makes removing the forms much better. Less pull-off of rocks and less "rubbing it out" (IYKYK lol). And, if you do that and your forms are properly constructed, (2) Take a battery sawzall, remove the blade, and vibrate the guard along the outside edges of the forms, lightly (!). Just run it along the forms up and down w/o too much pressure before you bull float and you will see the cream come to the top on the sides. And the vibrations along the entire frame of the form move inward and settle everything. Then tamp it and finish it. Cheers and keep it up!
@iconoclad4 сағат бұрын
When my house was built the concreter painted the forms with black oil. I believe this was actually used motor oil. He probably gets it from some mechanic he knows. Way cheaper than WD-40.

Like the rebar caps. I think the more concrete forms you build , the more you will build them a little stronger then your first guess, it is a hassel dealing w/blow outs. Reminds me of my carpenter days. I was lucky to work w/a lot carpenters that were able to hold their job in tough times. Good watch
@hoganv72256 сағат бұрын
As a civil engineer the only thing I'd say is be a little careful how much you vibrate the concrete. Vibrating it too much can cause the aggregate to sink to the bottom. Not that it matters with how overbuilt this appears to be. Nice work Andrew!
@einfelder82623 сағат бұрын
I am no engineer, but definitely overuse of the vibrator, not to mention the watery concrete from the first load - far too wet. The excessive vibration is what caused the formwork to collapse - it might have held otherwise.
