The open lever acts as a half to whatever number you have on. So if you have a 1 guard on and lever is open, that’s a 1.5

Lewis Cook what about if it’s open halfway on a guard one does that mean 1.5? And if ur on guard one full does that mean ur on guests 2

Bro the title of the video doesn't lie,I watched a bunch of tutorials and they either go thru the process fast and they don't explain in detail of what they doing. Alot of them don't even show what they mean by closed/open lever. Plus they don't cut their own hair like most of us are trying to do. Plus you gave yourself a fade without 1.5 guards like alot of every day Joe's that don't have those guard's. You killed it bro.

For real man? This helped you so much that you nailed your very first time?? That's so so encouraging to me because Ive been so frustrated needing and wanting to cut my own but worrying that i could never do it this professional looking. Always thought it would be too hard. I do my own already but just use one guard and take it all off one length only, cause i never felt like i could do a fade. Thanks man

Thank for making this possible, here in Nigeria (Africa) you hardly see clippers with the 0.5 & 1.5 guard. So the lines created at clipper open and 1 guard close are most often not taken out completely. This will help me a lot next time in the shop when giving a haircut. Almost done with my barber apprenticeship relationship with my master. Once again thank you for this.

Had long hair for the last 20 years, lost it all to chemo in Feb. Cancer free, but was Q-Ballin’ it for 3 or 4 months till it started to grow back. I made the mistake of going to Supercuts and they charged me 30 bones for basically nothing- Never Again, fellas. Ive always been handy w the clippers but never tried doin a fade- Ive done it maybe 6 or 7 times now and im lovin it! It looks dope and I can ALWAYS keep it fresh!! For me, the trickiest part was doin the “cornering” with the blade to kill the line…but it works!! Thanks for the vid man- changed my life ! 🙏

Good work. Been doing this for 15+ years. Even cut my own hair for my wedding day. Getting to that point wasn't easy. Many rough trims in high school. Keys to a good trim is confidence, time, two shavers one for lines the other for cutting, mirror positioning for two mirrors and lighting. Bit of music can help to determine how your hair cut will turn out too.

True about the music, helps for me. I just started cutting my own hair days ago, still kinda nervous to use the equipment but music and some hemp helps lol Did my 1st ever haircut on one of my fam members and not bad for a newbie

Thank you for showing/writing exactly which guard and lever positions you were using. I've watched too many DIY tutorials that are supposedly catered to those of us who don't know what we're doing, but the barbers switch guides and levers without saying or showing it, and then I get confused. Thank you for taking your time and not rushing through the video so that we can easily follow along.

Have to chime-in just to say, "thanks". This tutorial has actually helped me accomplish some decent fades starting from the very first time. I just started shortening the distance between the guidelines to get the fade I really want. Another couple of haircuts and I hope to be right where I want with hairstyle and skill to maintain it myself. The title is the truth.

Moved to a new house, tried 4-5 different barbers. They all sucked! I got my own clippers and been following the steps on this vid for the last 5-6 haircuts. Had to make some small adjustments here n there to get my hair the way I like it. But I am slowly getting there. My last haircut was the best one so far. Looked almost professional. Taking my time and being really meticulous really helps. My last haircut took me 2 hrs! lol but it was so worth it! Saving so much money by doing it myself.

I truly believe Supercuts, Sportsclips, Fantastic Sams and that type hire people off the street. NEVER once had a decent cut at any of these places. Amateurs who have no clue whatsoever how to pull off a fade. Walking out looking like you lost a bet which involved letting a blind epileptic diabetic crashing cut your hair. No disrespect to anyone just trying to drive home the point how terrible most of those chain places are.

i like that pro tip explaining the use of the corners in absence of a guard to finish off a fade. This is great stuff to learn. Just cut my hair today, straight hair Asian poofy buzz cut down to a 3 on top, 1.5 on the sides and like a .5 bottom and rear. The light is to my 2 o clock so it was kinda hard to get a sense of the lines even with a hand mirror but i made it work, in direct light it really makes the fade like not appear until you are in a darker lit room. Anyways, great video you put toghether explaining stuff

Clean video bro. I recently broke my 1 1/2 guard and have been fading my domepiece while holding the guard to the clipper in one hand, and a handheld mirror in the other ahaha. cuts weren't too bad but super stressful. Appreciate the content brother

Wish I would've found this before I spent over $300 on high quality clippers and trimmers. Incredible stuff dude

Awesome video man. I would say to add in another way to further explain using the corners of the clippers is that you get a little more of a gap between the edge of the blade, because the cutting blade that is moving doesn't completely meet the stationary blade.
