Bought this book on day of release 12/13. I have been a huge Beatles fan since 1971 and I have to say in all those 51 years I never really fully understood what brought The Beatles to the official end in April 1970. In this fantastic book "The McCartney Legacy" I now have a grasp of what really happened to bring about The End. I'm not 100 pages in yet and so far it has been a great read and very, very informative. All serious Beatle peoples must have and read this book. The insights into the making of the "McCartney" album (1969-1970) is priceless. This book is worth its lengthy read, and I think in the end we all will have a better, richer understanding of Mr. Sir Paul McCartney 1969-1973.

I've been reading it over the past two weeks for review purposes (thanks Allan and Adrian and HarperCollins). Catch my review & chat with the authors on the Readers' Digest website this week. Definitive account of this period, unprecedented level of detail, but a real page turner at the same time. I've been a fan for 45 years and I've never understood the timeline in quite this way before. Allan and Adrian have been working on this book for eight years and have done a wonderful service for fans - and for Paul. As you say, this is the biography he deserves.

Thanks Andrew for this overview, I will definitely be buying this in the new year. This book covers what I think is the most important part of Paul's solo career and it will be fascinating for me read this account and see how it marrys up with my memories of reading these events in the NME, I'm sure many back holes will be filled with this book.

This is all incredibly bittersweet for those of us who've grown up with the Beatles (one of my earliest memories is sitting on my Nan's knee watching the Beatles on TV in about 1963) and now we're looking at 'legacies'. I mean, that's what time does, but nonetheless...

Hi Andrew 👋 Thanks for the video. I received my copy here in Australia 3 days ago and it is also the US version. I started reading it today and I am really enjoying the style in which it's been written, and certainly the depth of information 😀 I only recently finished reading Man On The Run, so it will be interesting to compare. It's funny, this is unrelated to the book, but recently I remember when you asked a general question about what we would all like to see as coming next by Paul, and I remember I said a box set of his singles would be cool, including 12" singles! WOW! Ironically, I don't have it, and can't afford it! Bugger! One day hopefully 🙏 Have a great Xmas Andrew 🎄 😀 and thanks for all your effort this year in producing very enjoyable videos ✌️👍

Haven’t started reading yet (only just cracked open Dylan’s new book, and then Quentin Tarantinos book is next, so I’m slowly getting there, saving the best for last!) but really look forward to it. Browsing through, I’m curious your opinion, do you read the studio session sidebars as part of the main body of text in the chapter or do you read them first or after so as not to interrupt the flow? Very specific and nerdy question, I know, but curious all the same Also, as much as I hope the next volume of this comes rather quickly, I won’t be complaining if Lewisohn gets his second volume out first!

I got my Kinks box set today! What beast of a box... I'm hoping that once Volume 2 is done, and that being presumably the end of the touring years, then perhaps the following years aren't *quite* as in depth, and hopefully better documented making research easier, so I have a hope that volume 3 will be out before 2035, which sounds ridiculous, but time will tell!

@@AndrewDixonMusic Throughly recommended it Mr Dixon . It's set out in diary form like Mark Lewishon's Complete Beatles Chronicle but interspersed with memories from people that met them along the way - fans- support acts - random blokes in chip shops etc. You really get a feel how hard they worked and some welcome fresh perspectives as opposed to the same old stories from the same old rent-a-quotes. My favourite one being John getting a proper scolding off a Scottish landlady for being suggestive to a pair of nurses. The cheeky young scamp!

This book looks superb. Unfortunately Geoffrey Guillano in 1991 wrote a disgraceful fabrication making Paul out to be a greedy horrid character. The so-called journalist then went on tabloid T.V in America which basically took every word he had written as gospel truth. Hopefully now three decades on this bile has been forgotten but I was shocked and angered to see it just two days ago be put on youtube. I was so angry I wrote quite a passionate comment which I thought I would copy and paste here. Sorry Andrew to use your channel for this but I feel us McCartney fans always need to stick together to ensure that Paul McCartney is always spoken about truthfully and with appreciation for what he has done. So lets buy this wonderful three part Legacy texts which look very promising from what Andrew has kindly shown us and ensure whenever we see calculated misinformation that we call it out. Cheers everyone. A truthful look at Blackbird by Geoffrey Guilliano... This author is not the ultimate and never was on the Beatles. In fact he has been discarded as a fraud and a shock jock of the paparazzi ilk. Everyone who had anything to do with this going on televised air should be ashamed of themselves. Please also remember that people who acquire huge wealth but who grew up in near poverty often have difficulties with spending money. Just because Paul may be both wealthy and financially fiscal why should he be attacked for that. And just because you may be rich doesn't necessarily entail that you should pay others buckets of more. The claim of 'All his songs about money' - more garbage. There are about three and not all by him. Let it Be is about his Mother and her death. It is a beautiful tribute with nothing to do about money. The sad truth is that when an author writes 50% accurately, the other 50% is believed when it is utter garbage. In fact it is worse than that. it is deceitful, damaging to many people and can lead to mistruths about important times in history. Another claim made by the author, 'Paul and Ringo hate each other' - what absolute crap! I wonder if he had ever spoken to either them. Years on they have worked together on several projects and special occasions. Paul and Ringo love each other dearly and anyone can see that. Yes Paul and Yoko have had their differences but they have now made up and even have recorded together. People have moved on but probably not Geoffrey Guilliano. Ringo has stated repeatedly that just like with any family they had their moments but they loved each other closely. Paul has said likewise. John in his final televised interview called Paul his best friend. None of this, which is coming from the Beatles themselves, was included in this authors diatribe. What a disgrace. Since then Yoko has said she doesn't believe the Beatles would have been the success without Paul. Paul has said that he realises that Yoko must be a kind lady for John to have been with her. Yoko has even said that it was Paul who tried to reconcile the differences between John and Yoko and was key in getting them back together again. Yes some of this happened after this book was written (but very little) yet it proves how little depth of research about the heart and soul of the people involved the writer was able to find and convey. Simply another nasty, cruel and fraudulent writer simply wanting to make thousands through tabloid shock jock exaggerations and omissions of importance. Omissions that if had been included would tell a much more favourable and accurate truth. Guilliano's book is a bit like the original Let it Be film. Poorly constructed and deliberately framed to show nothing but negativity, The recent Get Back documentary has settled that probably once and for all and shown the world that even in their toughest moments they still had great admiration, love for one another and also had heaps of FUN. Somehow I don't see much likelihood of the author rewriting this book to reveal a true and honest account. Last, but most importantly, Paul McCartney has set up several charities including LIPA and has donated millions to causes all over the world. He simply does with anonymity which suggests he really cares and is not seeking recognition. That is true charity. To give without personal reward. So to lay into Paul like Geoffrey Guiliano did in 1991 is absolutely disgusting. The show A Current Affair in Australia is regarded as tabloid journalism at its worst. It seems this was also true for the show in the U.S. I wonder what the makers of that show have done for environmental causes over the years, or children born with sensory damage or for the threatened species of the planet. And of course there is that small factor of having brought the some of the most beloved and innovative music to the world - music that will live on for centuries to come. Hmmm, I think Paul McCartney wins hands down and if that gutter journalist is alive today a long overdue apology is required.

Allan Kozinn has interviewed Paul many times (for other reasons prior to this book), also the intro makes it clear that while Paul didn't directly contribute, he did give several acquaintances his blessing to talk to the authors when they asked Paul if it was OK to talk to them.

I saw one comment on Amazon mentioning the transparency of the paper and this was a negative for them. When you showed the intro page I could see some of the next page showing through so I wondered if you found this too in your US copy and if it detracted from the book at all?

I know what you mean re the paper type, it's different to most books but I don't see it as any kind of problem so far, all feels perfectly readable to me.
