Katharine Birbalsingh is the headmistress of the fascinating Michaela School in London, where she recently had to battle against Islamists to prevent kids from praying at the school. She does everything to make sure social cohesion is possible, and a national sense of pride instilled in her pupils, who are mostly from impoverished minority backgrounds.

A thought experiment: if a group of Christian kids had demanded a prayer room, would you think that is also "woke"? Because I don't see what is "woke" about a religious group asking for their religion to be prioritised. In that case all American Evangelicals would be "woke" when they want to ban Harry Potter.

Well done to you and evil racist headmistress. Look at your comments you did what you set out to do more hatred towards muslim CHILDREN. Instead of educating children about respect, bullying and boundaries which clearly she wasn't capable or professional enough she chose hate against muslim children to propel into social media limelight and acceptance from the racist facist community. Your the one bullying children. Disgraceful

Yet hate is a normal feeling which can occur. Trying to deny it does not make it go away. And how can anyone rational hate a prophet who was mentally sick given the nowadays standards? We surely must be compassionate for his pedophilia (his youngest wife, Aisha, was 9 years old when the prophet took her virginity), murders, rapes etc. But can we? When we see the same kind of compulsive (animalistic) behaviors of their beloved prophet being done today by individuals who claim to do it in the name and for the benefit of Allah, can we just stay passive? As one might think that tomorrow he/she or someone beloved can become the next victim. Do we need a lobotomy, do we have to beg for our lives, must we kiss the hands of the terrorists hoping they will not rape our wives, daughters sons etc.? Or do we stand up like men and without hate, hope or remorse find our inner strength, give up the individualism and perform an act of kindness for the humanity stopping the aggressors, even by risking our own lives? Zero hate, just the looooveeee and kindness for the others.

Great comment. I'm British and love Katherine - she is really showing us Brits how to be British! That is the key issue - we love immigrants who love Britain. The problems only happen when you have large scale immigration from people who don't want to assimilate, and who are against the British ways of life. I wish you all the best and hope that you prosper in our shared country.

She's correct in her analysis of the alt-left. The resulting self-hating neurosis induced in the very morally developed European/White persons via psychological gaslighting is unmistakable. Only this group is being attacked in the here and now for that which occurred in the past. This is why the ridiculous guilting of people who, in fact, developed philosophy allowing philosophical and social freedom for all is so very dangerous and, in fact, racist and anti-Western. Injecting non-Europeans into European cultural societies and then attacking Europeans openly is a problem. That playbook isn't possible in homogeneous, closed, repressed societies which do not allow, let alone welcome, people from other places with other ideas, for example. Attacking the one area of the world which ideologically developed the most equalizing sense of society isn't by accident. It's purposeful. Eliminating these cultural precepts and ideologies means a return to unilateral repressiveness. She's the clearminded type who can shift through all the cultural positives in the West and actualize those positives within the context of traditional, ethnic British culture. And, she does not see the need to pedestalize anyone in the process, either. *_Par excellence!_* 👍

I lived in Sudan for two years in the middle 1980s just as the Moslem Brotherhood were importing their fundamentalist Islamic 'religion' to the North of the country from Egypt. Those who were trying to recruit to their campaign against the secular Govt in Khartoum used intimidation through the local Mosques. People were told that if they failed to support these men with money, food, fuel they would have their children barred from school and be shut off from all Mosques activities. The Brotherhood's aim was for an Islamist Govt and Sharia law. I loved the country, and the mass of the population was friendly to foreigners, but this lot were scum. I left before it got really bad there but it's a mess now.

Thankfully she understands that people with this mentality care more about seeming like they are helping minorities than actually helping minorities. And as a minority herself, she understands how detrimental it is to inundate children with the idea that they are somehow set up to fail and only by luck and with the help of WhiteKnighters will they succeed. I'm Australian and I moved to a rural town some years ago. And I'm delighted to say I live across the road from a great school the Gkids now attend. It's K-10 and the classes are about 10-15 kids. The kids put up the Australian flag every morning. It is strict but fair, and child focused learning ends when you turn six. The books they read for English are the same books I read in primary school. The kids behave wonderfully. The headmaster knows every child's name and says good morning to them individually most days. After school the highschool kids are not on smart phones. They talk to each other. Sometimes the boys show off on bicycles. And the girls swish their pony tails, it could be decades ago. There are prayers, but only Christian ones, and parents agree to that, if not, there is a secular alternative, but there the kids are in control, not the teacher.

Yeah, I find the comment about people not supporting the England team very interesting. I am American, but I've lived in Asia (various countries) for 20 years, and I have a lot of friends from the UK over here, and I notice how they absolutely love the freedom of supporting England over here, where it's acceptable, but they always say, "Couldn't fly the flag like this back home," and I found that shocking at first. Americans famously love flying the flag, wearing it on clothes, and on and on to the point of ridiculousness, but I am wondering... maybe the fact that more immigrants to the US buy in compared to the UK is the colonial history (current US empire status nonwithstanding), as the people coming to the US don't necessarily see it as the colonizer as their counterparts in the UK see the UK. While it might happen, I've never heard of people in the US of any background rallying against supporting the national team in the Olympics or what have you. She's so brilliant in her analysis of the crazy ideas related to education that have left most young inner city kids illiterate, virtually unemployable and headed for a life of crime and violence. I especially liked her ideas related to the "politically correct" notion of accepting grammatically flawed Black speech as "normal" and "authentic". Preposterous. Blacks who speak in this way (incorrect subject/verb agreement = he be, she be, etc. or using "they" instead of "their"= They house, they car, they friends, OR etc.) are instantly perceived as being ignorant. This lessens their access to certain jobs/careers due to the perception of being intellectually challenged.

I'm also Australian. I live rurally and we have a tiny RC school. I went today for an awards ceremony. All the kids were well behaved, even the little prepies. And then tree junior highschool girls started whispering, wriggling and giggling. The headmaster identified them and said their behaviour was not up to the standard of the school. Straight away the girls sat up straight, eyes to the front, and quiet as mice. There's still good schools hidden away in corners.

@grannyannie2948 That's awesome. However, the same can't be said for many other schools. @grannyannie2948 Unfortunately, a bad town, especially with no parental control, flows to kids' school behaviour too. Teachers should never have become their mates. Kids started treating them like their friends instead of someone they looked up to for guidance and who should be respected. Working parents not knowing what their kids are really up to, all play a part. Some communities' parents don't provide a good home environment, so kids run riot. I live rural, and yes, it is like going back in time. This is a farming community where the kids seem to be far more settled. I think because they are not competing for top dog status, the fashionista's, or money trail. Here, no one cares. Millionaires wear checkered flannelette shirts to shop, while the poorer dress up and vice versa. You definitely can't judge a book by it's cover. The kids usually have responsibilities like feeding animals and helping around the farm. They seem friendlier and I found more sociable towards adults. Maybe it's just my town, but it's lovely to see a kid helping an old man cross the rd using their own initiative, or picking up a grocery item someone has dropped. This is so heart-warming to see. Are all the kids like this ? of course not. This isn't utopia and I'm realistic. Sadly as in every country, you'll always have areas you love to stay in and areas you just keep going through. Areas you also put the pedal to the metal at times lol Areas you party in and areas you just want to watch a beautiful sunset. Life is the garden you pick 🤗 Hopefully it's the right one for all your little vegemites to bloom and grow 😂

Katharine Birbalsingh is a breath of fresh air. She has achieved great things at the Michaela School in just a few years. I attended a state (ie no school fees) school from 13 to 18 and it worked well because the headteacher ran it like a grammar school, with streamed classes, good discipline and excellent teachers for the most part. So state schools can work. The people who tried to prevent the Michaela School from opening should concentrate on improving state schools. A former neighbour's child witnessed indoctrination and brainwashing at the local state school, the pupils would give the required answers about toxic masculinity etc whilst secretly holding the teachers in contempt. I feel for the generation of children and young people who have been treated like this, sadly some of them will believe what they have been told.

As a white ally, I get confused as I need to listen to racialized people and not impose my views (that is called white supremacy), but if I do then I'm guilty of the racism of low expectations, etc. I am told math is racist, don't teach the canon, etc. by Black educators and activists. It is a minefield that doesn't start with white guilt but the fact that racialized people differ in their views (wouldn't it be racist to assume agreement based on colour anyway?). Am I to support the Muslim women who choose the hijab or those who oppose it? Or stay out of it then be accused of ignoring issues not pertinent to white folks.

I’ve attempted multiple conversations with them and in so doing, I’ve heard them say the dumbest things about supposedly “poor oppressed Muslins”. When I’ve tried to educate them on the reality of Is lam, not to mention treatment of Jwes in Isla mic societies it goes in one ear out the other. They’re committed to victimizing them. There seems to be a masochism in western cultures and in the western subconscious psyche that makes them prone to guilt, real or imagined. It’s almost like the mere fact of feeling more privileged than X makes them confer victimhood onto X.

It is noble of the German kids and it is not necessary to be sorry for the actions of an earlier generation, but it shows that it is important to teach accurate history to kids, as German schools do. As opposed to Japan, which has swept all its atrocities in China and Korea under the carpet. Or the UK, where zero history is taught about the terrible impact of British colonialism all over the world. It is about having the courage to take ownership of your nation's history, both good and bad. Because if the bad is masked simply to spin a feel-good national narrative, that is a disservice to future generations.

From a curriculum that was required, consequences and responsibilities, .and in my schools with many different cultures and children who accepted each other most of the time. Two things I noticed as the first glaring changes - 1 excuses instead of working on problems and 2 one of my colleagues creating a non - existent problem with a Christmas concert. I checked with parents to see if my program of concerts through 200 years and how they had changesd. Was offensive to any of the religions. He decided to teach the children that they should be offended, He told me this later. I feel excuses are really saying you poor dear. We cannot expect the same from you instead of saying we all have strengths and weaknesses. We can assist I your growth to deal with this in a positive way. Our modern version of a concert had representative performances reflecting the many cultures in the school. We all learned from each other. Is that not the way to grow together instead of apart?

I’m 75. My husband and I raised 6 great children who have given us 24 grands and 6 greats so far. It hasn’t been easy but it’s worth it. I look forward to the end of my life. It is natural and I KNOW there is a beautiful life after I pass. We believe that families can be together forever! Love this woman!

"That's it!" Such a cool teacher. She made me a better communicator with the way she gave this interview. She's in the habit of saying "that's it" when there's some kind of teachable micro-moment. It stops the learner in their tracks. When someone says something that indicates they grasp the idea she's trying to share, she quickly interjects, "that's it."

As a minority person I totally agree with Birbalsingh! In a Master's program for counseling, in a class called Counseling in a Multicultural Setting the first thing our African American professor told the class was that "Whites are responsible for all evils in the world"! So, we minority students were able to blame Whitey for all our problems rather than being empowered to internalize what we need to change within ourselves, to grow emotionally. Totally counter to what a counselor should be tought to assist a clients to grow emotionally.

Division and victimhood. Thank you, Katharine, for saying it out loud. I believe this country is more divided than it has ever been. All these groups of people protesting about one thing or another don't seem to understand how hostile they are. Are they trying to alienate themselves from the rest of society and the country they have chosen to live in? Tolerance, politeness and understanding are needed. Well done to you and your amazing staff for standing up to bullies. You have taught the rest of your students an incredibly valuable lesson about social cohesion and what it means to have a national sense of pride. Respect where you live, and your neighbours, then life for all will be a lot happier.

@14:00 Speaking of good books by brown people, I highly recommend a book written by a Tutsi survivor of the massacre in Rwanda, "No Greater Love" by Tharcisse Seminega. Even though it was Christians on both sides, he shows how a similar "victim mentality" was at play there, and who propagated it.
