Loved the video! Great fan contributions. Andrew, the shirt with the zipper! Is it functional? Is there a giant pocket on that shirt? Or is it a direct air vent for hot days? I don't know why, but the shirt drew my attention for a good part of the video. 🤣

Reiterating a suggestion I made on the last video: you should make one where you are inflicted with the Beethoven handicap - you can't hear what you're playing! Other than when you are pausing to communicate about an idea, you have to wear noise-canceling headphones that only sound a metronome for synchronization between you two while recording. This would require some serious imagination and musical memory.
@everrtf Жыл бұрын
the noise cancelling headphones should only be able to hear eachothers microphone so they can talk to eachother the whole time
@joashchechet Жыл бұрын
They've already done that but not on sonic boom. It was in a Collab between Rob, Andrew, Roomie and Dave from boyinaband
@TLguitar Жыл бұрын
@@joashchechet I looked that up now. It's indeed similar but not exact as each wrote his own song rather than all collaborating on one, and these were composed using muted DAWs rather than throughout the playing process of the 60 minute challenge. What's interesting is that Andrew just posted their newest Sonic Boom collaboration and it's about them not being able to speak while writing the song.
@joashchechet Жыл бұрын
@@TLguitar besides that, rob also did one with the noise cancelling white noise playing headphones you're talking about but I think that was him alone

Flip Sampler is perfect for something like this. I like getting a random object, seeing how many sounds I can make out of it and trying to put something together, super simple to use.
@jennoscura2381 Жыл бұрын
I got Flip Sampler because of this video. I am so glad it has MIDI. I keep a RadioShack keyboard in my living room so I have something to play while I am watching KZbin. I hooked it up to my phone via one of those MIDI to USB adapters. I had a ton of fun playing around with a sound sampled from that keyboard. Seriously the inclusion of MIDI makes the app really useful to me since I use MIDI all the time in my studio.

I like the approach towards creativity. I've got a couple ideas in the same vein. One is to let the music be purely audience driven. So, to get song ideas, you just ask people questions like: what's your favorite drum beat, or bass line, and so on, and use that as the basis for a song. Another idea is in how to gather source material. If you require that the song must be about a story in a local newspaper, for example. Or something that was on the news, that might be a good way to find a source of song ideas that work in the moment. Along the lines of letting the music be audience driven, maybe even soliciting song ideas in the form of simple stories in the comments.
@up4open763 Жыл бұрын
"soliciting song ideas" I like that, but it needs a name, something with Pants.

Just Brilliant in so many ways .Educational, entertaining , funny and fun..you two are easily my all time FAVORITE You Tube Music creators !! This may be too radical of an idea , but I heard of a Progressive Jazz Pianist many years ago who drew notes on a piece of plywood and threw darts at the board multiple times writing down the notes as he went , then created a melody from the notes. He was the same fellow I believe who tied kitchen utensils. Forks , knives and household items to his piano strings to see what kind of sounds he could get. It would be fun , and challenging to see what you can create using a concept like that.

here are some of the lyrics to the viewer-submitted vocals at the end. unfortunately i couldn't get the lyrics of the last part by Ali x. maybe i'll come back to them later but for now i'll have to move on with my life. if you have any idea of what they are, or if i got something wrong in the other parts, please say it in the replies [Jake Lionheart] Step into the challenge, gonna bring the balance May I be candy? You kids need practice Only way you move the plan is with an atlas Don't like the sound? Please, thats just madness Cuz Andrew will sample that sound like a vandal and quickly dismantle the vibes you must handle The clock has been ticking, the countdown was ripping Please dont fail to get it, life has a time limit [Green Woods] The sound of a bird in a cage I put the pin in the page Stick a measure of the man with the burden of pain Burning the stage, whenever he steps up but Still afraid, and is certain to mess up ah Hit the ground, cut the curtain and came to see it's choosen if you don't got nothing to lose Cut down, running out, the bird could fly south to blow the roof off the ruse to make 'em go BOOM [Ali x] Pull out your pencil case, rub your thesaurus starting the race, and i ain't going cautious Tough to say "Que pasa" to stegosaurus While in it to win, I rule over the forfeit I fly high like a bird you will rub a chicken Still waiting for spring to appear You were taught to flip mindlessly while i flick you off just like a wasp that I would like don't wan't coming near [Jake Lionheart] They say, hey, looks like you've seen better days, and i said, yep i stash them in my pencil case Next to utensils that are yellow with tools That's what we use to write W's Don't flip the birdies you flick in the spring Before i go, yo, there's just one more thing If you take a ruler, no take with the pencil, You still couldn't measure Andrew's dope instrumental
