Andrew, please help! My surround sound system is 22 years old. Onkyo TX-SR700, Athena SCT speakers, and a Sunfire SD10 sub in a 5.1 configuration. I would like an upgrade to better sound before I get too old or before the tinnitus takes me. My room is only 12'X12'; so probably 5.1.2? I really like the design of SVS Titans, but those may be too big for this room? I was also thinking of doing separates, but again, probably overkill for this room? Would a TX-RZ do? Any advice?

I am so very happy that a manufacturer is willing to follow science with excellent engineering. And the result allows you to realize that applied science can be beneficial to people if they are willing to be honest with themselves. I love the fact that I can be alive to witness this event. Keep up the good work, Andrew & Kristi, and keep the dreams alive because I wanted a Countach and a Pantera when I was younger!

I saw them in a shop listening room a few years ago, another customer had ordered them and they were just coming through the shop for delivery. The buyer was nice enough to let us sample the sound and... SHEEEET it was majestic. If you've been to a high-class opera house where the sound is just everywhere but also right there... like where ever I put my eyes that was where the sound was coming from.. crisp, clean, warm, powerful. I went home to my poor Focals and Proacs and felt haunted.

One thing I noticed about this review is something I don't often see, and it also reminds me of your Klipsch La Scala reveiw - the speakers were engaging enough to let you get past listening to the speaker and just listen to the music. Not comparing the two speakers, but they both achieve that emotional connection that goes beyond technical excellence.

I grew up in Paris, France (as an expatriate) and my dad would travel to New York on business. On most occasions he would pick up the latest albums from up and coming artists, one of which was a group called the Beatles. On the way home from work one day (back in Paris) he picked up a stereo system from B&O. Listening to the Beatles on the B&O was my introduction to listening to good music on a good system. A few years later he upgraded and bought another B&O system which was even better. By that time he had introduced me to the Yardbirds, and The Ramsey Lewis Trio. My dad has since passed but I still possess both stereo systems. Since those days I have owned a few Hi Fi systems, but the B&O's still sound good and the memories are irreplaceable. Thanks for the review.

When I was a teenager back in the seventies I purchased my first stereo with money I made during summers and a paper route. That system included a Beogram turntable. Something I STILL miss to this day. It was art. I sounded great and I loved LISTENING to music! Fast forward to 2025 and I'm well into my sixties. Yes, I too have spent a lot of money on different equipment. Can I afford the 90s? No, but music is an emotional experience and if I can find a dealer to hear these I too can dream. Thank you for a review that allows me to vicariously feel what the 90s offer.

The part of the review I relate to the most is when you "wax poetic" about the emotional/spiritual/magical way which a speaker makes you feel. I get it, I've felt it and I feel it still when I listen to my system. While I can only imagine what these speakers sound, and feel like, your description, combined with my own experiences, puts me right in front of 'em! For me, when a speaker makes you feel "that way", it's doing it's job. I look forward to 2025 and new content from you guys! Thanks!

Then someone else might dream about that person's home or a car. Or just family stuff… It's good to have dream things or goals, even if you never get them. I've had years of specific goal in my mind that I've worked on my free time. It's almost done, and I get that, “I finally did it” feeling. Now it's time to set another goal. I wish that others also set the similar type of goals.

I don't see a problem with you having an emotional response on the 90s. To me music is all about emotion. If a speaker is able to make you forget the speaker and just start an emotional journey with your music you are golden. I am currently very satisfied with my own set-up (self build speakers) but I would love to have a session with the 90s. You know you are doing well as soon as you start listening to album after album and just loose yourself in the music.

During our pursuit of 'better' sound, I think we sometimes forget that the true purpose of our systems is to get lost in the music and feel its emotional impact. It's easy to get caught up in the hunt for the next best thing, but with a system like the B&O 90's, we are reminded to enjoy the music as an art form. I wonder if many audiophiles are more drawn to the hobby of comparison, upgrading, and tweaking than to the music itself. I know I am guilty of that! That's also one of the reasons why I appreciate Kristi's perspective so much-she truly focuses on the music and the end use of the product. It's refreshing and grounding! Thank you both! ❤

Thank you for your comment and support. I think many in the hobby are more drawn to the gear than maybe the act of listening to it, which I'm not knocking, I'm just saying it as a likely reality. @@VEC7ORltI think it would probably be several tens of thousands of Euros to make a pair of those speakers in terms of materials and hardware. The cabinet is made from aluminium which is poured in a steel mould and milled down. And then there are the people who assemble them together and test them. I am watching a development video of those speakers right now here on YT. They made quite a few prototypes. There is so much that comes to mind when designing, developing and building such a speaker. Ofcourse they would need to make a profit on it, which is still a fairy big one probably.

I absolutely put audio equipment into art category. Especially something like this. B&W 800 series is art. Wilson Audio design is art. Especially when they give you the emotions and joy while listening to music as well. This one is such a stunning speaker. I would choose different design for sure, but regardless, it’s fabulous. And important thing, I’m actually very much happy they went with a fully powered design at such a high price point. I think that’s the best decision they’ve made here, basically putting other high end manufacturers on notice with it. I very much believe this in no way is irrelevant even if I think there probably isn’t a single person that can actually afford a pair of these in here. These are a statement, a test of technology and a testament to timelessness. If you buy these, you forget about buying a pair of speakers for life and pass these on to your children that hopefully are just as geeky and passionate about sound and music as you are. I believe this tech will trickle down in years to come, or at least I really hope it will, because that’s what usually happens with things like these. What an absolute joyous way to start a year, I have to say, I didn’t expect it to be the first video of the year. Bravo. It looks fantastic, sounds fantastic and as always is an amazing review. It easily and right away shows just how much work you’ve put into this. The progress this channel has seen in the short few years is nothing less than astonishing! If I ever win a lottery, this is my end all speaker. I’ll buy two pairs though, one for me one for y’all. That’s a word! 😊 Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday! Best wishes to all!

The fact that you are on this channel and have any kind of audio system means you can afford a life that is incredibly better than tens of millions of people on this planet. You can start enjoying your life more by never uttering the words "It must be nice." because it makes you sound like a self pitying loser. Be thankful for what you have and the time and health to enjoy it.

Eh? Just because someone acknowledges that something "must be nice" doesn't mean any of the things you're accusing them of in your post are even remotely accurate 😂

Wow. What a selfish and narrow minded take. Some people are struggling to afford to stay alive, people are dying, so yeah. When we see people who could be making a difference act snobby? That's when I get pissed off. I have no problem with people using their money to buy something they can afford and enjoy. There is a limit however where the wealth becomes grossly over kept and undeserved. Particularly billionaires. There's also a question of "are these products ACTUALLY worth what the manufacturer and brand are selling them for? With no transparency about production cost, profit margin, Internal business mindset or customer support, we have no idea if these things only cost $10k to make, $20k or whatever, and the company is just packing away money on the backs of people who think they have something magical. It feels gross to me personally.

@@fletchermunson6225 another perspective: if Congress packaged a bill that ensured every American resident (citizen or otherwise) could own a pair of these it would cost a minimum of 52.5 B US pesos, which really isn’t much.

Many years ago I sold B&O audio and tv in retail and they have always led with industrial design and superb quality.

The first time I hear them I was taken to a different place. I honestly had a spiritual experience, i hear music i had heard before, but discovered new things about it, I hadn’t heard before. They blew my mind.

How does that compare to the Sony SSCS5 Bookshelf speaker?

I love that products like this exist. It's got the sonic goods and a completely unique construction that is high quaality. I would argue that in the high end space, these are reasonably priced. Something to aspire to. Even if this isn't your cup of tea, you have to appreciate the innovation and inspiring design. Great review as well. 10/10.

Not in proximity of my financial range but thanks for the peak under the hood. Knew of the speaker but I was not aware of the insane amount of speaker drives and amplifiers.

Although not active speakers I can only hope you're able to review the MBL 101 E MKII or MBL 111 F. On a separate note, reviewing either of the German Physiks PQS-302 or the Carbon MK IV would also be great. Additionally a non-omnidirectional speaker like the Monitor Audio Hyphn.

Wow. Didn’t expect this review so soon. As someone who vividly remembers first setting eyes on b&o products at a friend of friend’s when I was 14/15 (the dad was a wealthy lawyer) I’ve been a fan of the brand for 30odd years. As I’ve mentioned before I have a few b&o products of my own now in part from watching your reviews. Even tho the app still drops some of the speakers too often for my liking, it is true that these products just make music fun and easy and a part of daily life in a way nothing else on the market can. There is something about the b&o way/sound that you recognize as excellent but don’t need to analyze the way you do with traditional kit. You focus on the music not the equipment which is a true gift.

Happy New Year and thanks for another great review 👍🏽 This resonates with my own experience with Beolab speakers. After many years of HiFi «nevrosis» with a constant search for better components, I realized that I had ended up only playing music that sounded great on my setup. Did I listen to my gear or to the music? After ending up with Beolab 50, I slowly started to listen to the music I love again rather than «audiophile» tracks. I wish I could afford the 90’s, but I’m truly happy with my 50’s. No need to worry about the need to upgrade amp or cables 🙂

Considering the specs and price of the Beolab 90 I don’t think it’s surprising at all. I’d be extremely surprised if the SVS was better.

I am impressed by the design of this speaker. Of course it is B and O, a company that really seems to think outside of the box, so no surprise there. The Wilson Chronos seem crude in comparison. The power specs are a little crazy, though. I can see whole cities going dark if two people decide to use them at the same time. My hope would be that they could scale this thing down a bit to mere mortals level. I have been thinking for a while that traditional receiver based , X.4 channel systems are becoming obsolete. And speakers like this only convince me more, that this is where we are heading. Who needs a dozen speakers when two can fill your room with 3 dimensional sound. Great job B & O, keep 'em coming.
