This is a perfect example of when three guys have the technical and musical ability to allow themselves to mock around and have fun with music. They are indeed very down to earth guys, because they don't really have anything to "prove". They are masters of their art, and they're having a good time. And although there are shifts in dynamics, style and approach, it's still so damn cohesive! And if you play a different recording of this song you'll hear a different version. The improvisation and the musical communication is absolutely astounding.

I got to meet Marco and Guthrie after a gig at a small st louis venue on Cherokee St. indeed very down to earth cool guys. Got they autographs. Brian was at the bar i think, plus I was to intimidated to go find him too, lol. It was weird, they put a bunch of chairs in the front when they usually didn't. I came back in from a smoke and a bunch of folks were dancing, or trying to, right by the stage. Apparently someone bet 5 bucks it was undanceable. So I got up there to study an pretend to dance a little. Occasionally someone would tell me to move, so I'd dance around more. I was moving after all, haha

Guthrie is the kind of player that makes every other guitarist on the planet, scared to follow him. There's a video of a jam with John Petrucci and Tosin Abasi, both utter monster players... You can see the disbelief on their faces when it's his turn to take the lead. There's simply nobody as technically proficient on both the instrument and knowledge of theory. If you've ever seen the last version of the movie Dune, some of the bagpipes you hear are him on the guitar, using layered melodies. Ridonculous talent.

They are pros. Had a similar encounter with Spock's Beard and Nick D'Virgilio in 2000 in Berlin. Willst he was playing really complicated stuff he had a conversation with his engineer over nearly a minute or so. Maybe not comparable to Marco, but it was the opener of their Album 'V', so if you know this, you might have an imagination of the difficult passages. Nick by the way isn't a washout. 😅

@ 12:57 . . . So, a few years ago between jobs (I was a Carpet Cleaner with my friend), we were in the neighboring city in SoCal (Southern Calif.) where we lived, and had some time before the next job. My friend needed to go to a Best Buys Electronic Store to look into a computer needing repairing. I told him I'd go to their music section to see if they had any CD's (there was a time they had a pretty good selection for their 1st 3 years), on my way outside of the DVD section, there stood a Tall man that looked familiar, looking at DVD's. I said to myself; "There is NO WAY that could be 'Him". I walked up to this man and I quietly asked; "Hello, but is your name Marco?" I will always remember his mannerism, it was almost shy, tepid, yet his personality seemed very approachable. He said in his slight German accent "Yes it is" as he said Yes with his whole upper torso :D. And I said; "Well I'm a Marco too, its great to meet you", and then I asked; "What the Hell are you doing here in the middle of __________ (the City)!?" He chuckled and said "I Live Here!", I think I said "WTH???" He continued; "Do you know who are my neighbors?" I motioned "who???" He says "Derek Riggs" (the Cover Illustrator for the 1st half of Iron Maiden's catalogue, who I'm a big fan of, who is from England) "and 'Muhammed Suiçmez!" (the founder, Guitarist/Vocalist of the German Tech-Death Metal band "Necrophagist", who like Chuck Schulinder of "Death", took Death Metal to its next complex stage). My jaw was to the floor. He explained he didn't want to live in LA (too expensive, too crowded) but he needed to be between airports (LA, Orange County, San Diego, Ontario) so if he had a gig to get to anywhere in the world, he was able to get flights relatively close. Seemed "California" and its weather was part of the attraction. We talked of bands he'd been associated with (this was a year or 2 before The Aristocrats), Derek and Mohammed too, which was also very interesting why they lived there. So you are right. These guys are very down to earth and very approachable. Around 1995 I met Bryan Beller _briefly_ in Encinitas Calif. inside "Lou's Records". When I was visiting the store to shop, me and my friend heard live music that seemed to be coming from inside (there wouldn't be really anywhere to play in it!), but there was Bryan, Guitarist extraordinaire Mike Keneally (from Frank Zappa, AZ/DZ, Steve Vai, Kevin Gilbert, Devin Townsend) and another Guitarist who I can't find info on, were playing amongst the "Lp Section" of the store standing up doing an acoustic set :p. - Again, all "regular guys". Andrew, have you done any Drummers that played with the late great guitarist "Allan Holdsworth"? Gary Husband, Gary Novak, Chad Wakerman, Vinnie Colaiuta? I want to see your face when you hear not only the drummers, but what Allan was doing with the Guitar like no other. He's inspired the likes of Guthrie Govan, Alex Lifeson, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah), Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and so many others :).

They did two shows, within 2.5 hours of my house, in the same week, fairly recently (within 2 years). I've been disappointed that I didn't catch one of them ever since. Now I'm angry that I didn't see both nights. One in. Charleston SC and one in Asheville NC. I agree that these performers are surreal. MM has shown this 61 year old a whole new level of understanding. He's a drum machine. No he's a drum magician, a drum machine can't do any of that shot. GG; fucking same. BB bass from heaven, infinity bass. I've been listening to their albums for a few years while drooling but these concert videos paralyze me with gleeful amazement. I won't miss another Aristocrats show within two hours of my house. I'd ride four hours each way to watch this live. It would probably pull the matrix plug out of the back of my skull. WowwwwwwwwW!

Sort of, if you count being very experienced on their instruments and playing these songs in hundreds of shows as "rehearsed". Guthrie and Marco mentioned they don't warm up because they play live so often anyway, and they also learn the songs separately at home before going into the studio to record the songs together, since Guthrie lives in the UK, and Marco and Bryan live in different parts of the USA.

Gotta say that a lot of rock "supergroups", where you put together a bunch of virtuosos tend to disappoint in the end. Not that they're ever bad, how could they be, but it has a tendency to sound kinda tedious very quickly. The Aristocrats is one of the exceptions in my book, they just sound great, it sounds like they're having a blast, and no performance is like the other. There's so much amazing improv going on, beside the incredibly impressive runs that they have nailed down somehow (it boggles the mind tbh)
