Check out "Adabana" next. In my opinion it's the song where Tamu really showcases her abilities. Some of the best fills she's every done, double bass in heels, etc. It's absolutely insane and the video does a great job of showcasing it as well.

Yes. Because of the amazing drum feature, ADABANA is one of the few songs with no guitar solos.

Tamu not only plays ambidexterous, she will switch grips based on what song she's playing. Check her out playing traditional grip in their cover of "Separate Ways", since Journey's Steve Smith played traditional grip.

Thanks Andy! I'm not a musician, and I just wanted to let you know that your explanation of ambidextrous was "clear as mud". No, all kidding aside, it made perfect sense and was not confusing at all. Thanks for taking the time to explain that. There are not that many reactionists that explain things like this for us just plain fans. I've watched over 50 reactions to this song, and Mayu ALWAYS "gets them" twice, first with the scream, and then again with the change to her "clean" voice. She is probably my favorite Japanese female vocalists, and I hate screaming, but I love her raspy voice so much. There are many awesome Japanese female vocalists, Mayu is just a bit more unique. Thanks again!

The original live, in-studio demo video for OIRAN is great for many reasons, including the many shots of TAMU’s drumming, featuring a pedal cam. BTW, RAITEI (ra -i-te-i)is pronounced something like rye-tay.

I would say, if asked to suggest a Nemophila song. Any and all. They are all fantastic. And they cover an unbelievably wide range of genre , feel , everything. You can't pigeonhole them. But as a drum teacher you obviously want to really look at Tamu, even though everyone of them are world class. For a good picture of Tamus's abilities I would suggest , as someone else already did, Adabana. Al I can say is picture animal from the Muppets you will know what I mean as soon as you hear and see the parts I'm referring to Another, that I think Tamu's skill really goes unnoticed is Monsters . It seems like just keeping a basic rhythm and beat , which she does phenomenally. But she has some amazing fills , but does them so tastefully they are easy to not even notice because you get focused on Hazuki, and Saki's playing. Not to mention Hara's bass and of course Mayu's singing. They all simply know the thing too many musicians today don't. Sometimes less is better. And even when you are giving more, it doesn't have to be out front and the focus. Another thing I will say about Tamu, she knows technique and when and where what's appropriate. On there cover of separate ways, she's playing by holding the left stick the way an old fart like me was taught in music class starting in kindergarten. I don't know what you call it, but when your holding it kind of sideways with your thumb and palm kind of. I don't really know how to describe it. But it's the technique journeys drummer uses and not using that technique would not sound right. Hara (the bassist) is the same, she knows and uses the technique appropriate for the song, even their originals. If a pick is appropriate for the song, that's what she uses. Finger picking, she finger picks , etc. It seems like too many musicians dont know those multiple techniques , or when to use them.

2 favorites are The Warning and Nemophila. I’m hoping that Nemophila comes to the states and near me. I’ve seen The Warning. Nemophila lost a guitarist, she left the band, to do her own thing. I’ve seen a couple videos without her now. The bassist kicks it up a knotch, and singer had a Guitar once. Finally during a guitar solo they had a backing track of a guitar. I’m fine with that lots of bands do that. Nice reaction.

Another I would suggest is their cover of Kurenia. A song XJapan released in the mid to late 80's. It's a song at 153 bpm with alot of parts in double time. Tamu is just non stop. It's them live in their practice studio. They do a lot of filming of them performing songs in their practice studio. Both originals and covers. Also alot of their videos from live performances. They have official live versions of alot of the MV ones also

You're clearly an Iron Maiden fan, but I can't see that you've reacted to LOVEBITES yet, which surprises me. If you're a Maiden fan, then you'll almost certainly love LOVEBITES fan. No other band today carries on the sound of the NWOBHM bands (like Maiden and Priest) better than LOVEBITES. Dual lead guitars with LOTS of harmonised solos, galloping riffs and even a vocalist who regularly gets described as a female (Japanese) Bruce Dickinson. And in terms of musicianship, they are better than both of Maiden and Priest. Their drummer has a very efficient technique (which is necessary when you see the speed at which she needs to play), and as a drummer yourself, you'll appreciate her cymbal work and fills. This video shows a recent live performance which gives a good indication of the talent these ladies have, including the drummer. "Judgement Day" kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4qohnqie7N1gcU
