Whoever recommended this specific track to you, steered you right. It's THE track of theirs, that I wanted to see you react to. Viglione is one of my favorite drummers to watch, just something about the way he moves, and the build up in this one is so good.

This band is incredible. I saw them live a few months ago. They're working on a new album and probably another tour next year. GO SEE THEM!

I didn't go to *this* Paradise show, but probably the next one they did. Back then, their shows were an experience. Living statues, contortionists, people on stilts - it made for a really unique vibe, given that you're about to see something way closer to a rock show than you'd expect. Also, the Paradise is pretty intimate, maybe a 600 person capacity? It's awesome. Jack is Amanda Palmer's dad. They had a less than stellar relationship (since patched up), and she hated being "Half Jack." The outro section is one of the most intense things I've ever seen live.

I saw the Dresden Dolls play with the amazing punk cabaret act World/Inferno Friendship Society on Halloween night in 2003. My friends and I were there for World/Inferno and knew nothing about the Dresden Dolls. Over the course of the next hour we had our 15 year old brains melted. After the show we sheepishly went to their merch booth and Amanda and Brian couldn't have been nicer. In fact, my friend fell so hard for the band that Brian, being an absolute legend, clocked my friend's instant fandom and gave him his bowler hat. What an incredible night and God bless Brian Viglione. An unreal drummer and even better human.

i like your point about the ostinato! that's useful for my brain and musicmaking. i found you from your tori amos reactions, probably the first alternative music i found as a teenager before the dresden dolls. the words don't have any real special meaning for me, i think as someone with really angsty teen emotions it was just seeing someone able to trash up the keys and give me a kind of a model for that outlet of emotion. (but your comments about drumming always interest me!)

I have no Idea how you found them but that is so awesome. I've always considered the Dresen Dolls an old local band. I yhink yhe last time I saw yhem was in The Midfle East Cafe in Boston. I'm so glad. Brian (the drummer) was a great guy back in the day. I am so glad to see thier music made it out into the wide world. So amszingly cool!! Cion Opperated Boy is still my favorite..maybe.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums indeed. Saw some great bands there and they were near the top for me. RIP Auckland’s live music scene. (He says while now living on the other island) But Amanda did like touring here; you might remember that she ended up living in Hawkes Bay (and making a bit of a fool of herself) after the borders closed in 2020.

I'm glad you're enjoying Dresden Dolls. Their style is quite unique, but they're associated with the Dark Cabaret subculture. Another band you may want to check is The Tiger Lillies. Their music is different from DD, but is has that same atmosphere.

I can definitely appreciate this performance. It's really not my thing but that's not important. What is important is the fact that the Dolls helped Matthew through some difficult times. Music has done the same for me.
