Dave's work as a drummer in QOTSA and "Them Crooked Voltures" is the best of his long career. It is evident that there has been a great maturation that was not there yet in the Nirvana period. The record "Songs For The Deaf" in my opinion remains the jewel in his crown.

They should be massive. But they're too unique for mainstream. People miss them a lot. Hopefully people will catch on.

@@pitpride1220 Agreed. They are still huge and it goes to show there genius since, you’re right on , since they are so unusual and dark

No the look from the bass player is of surprise. Because dave pinned the tempo way faster than usual on purpose. And he was laughing and they were like woah wait up. So ya thats what i got from the looks. These guys are way too cool to be looking with smiles of glee

Dave also sees playing guitar in a funky drumming way.

Been playing guitar 17 years, bass for about half that, singing the whole time too. I'm about a week into learning drums with the goal of at least attempting to play through this whole album someday. It's fair to say this performance is what really lit a fire under me to pick up drums and make it happen. One of my favorite bands of all time, #1 on most days 🤘

At the end you said Dave has a known bag of tricks and I was commenting live that playing the tricks and doing it live in front of millions of people for millions of dollars ... I need to bridge the gap between those two concepts

I may be wrong but I think this was the first time Dave had played drums live in the UK since the Nirvana days. He's really firing on all cylinders here. Someone once described Dave's drumming as playing riffs, not beats and I kinda agree with that.

Notice how at 10:02 mark Josh Homme was watching for Dave Grohl’s count to cue back in! Dave is driving that song!!!

As I understand it, Dave recorded the cymbals and then the rest of the drums in separate takes for this album, to get crystal-clear separation.

Totally kick ass / I loved that line up of Queens; heaviest stoner rock ever. And I love Troy Van Leuween’s other worldly space vibe - like Ace Frehley; enigmatic. All the dudes have such strong characters - all of them are stars on the stage. Just fantastic.

If you haven't yet, watch What Drives Us and From Cradle to Stage. The first is a documentary of life on the road as a band, where he interviews major artists, including Ringo Starr. The second is a series based on the book his mom wrote, who has sadly passed away recently, about the mothers of rock stars. They are both really good and shows another side of Dave Grohl. He is such a legend in everything he does.
