Very nice, thanks for sharing. Always enjoy working with ambrosia maple. Might have missed it, but seal the bottom of table to ensure that you don't get uneven wood movement, expansion-contraction. Satisfying to watch!! Cheers.

Looks great, what does the blow torch do to the epoxy?
@AndrewWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It pops any little tiny trapped air bubbles and helps the epoxy flow smoothly.

Looks amazing! One thing that I couldn't tell from the video, if you didn't already, I would highly recommend slotting the thru holes in the widthwise metal supports and then just tighten the screws enough to hold the top in place. That way the wood can expand and contract with the seasons and the screws will slide in the slots. Otherwise, the top is likely to split. Cross grain expansion is much more than along the grain, but I would probably ovalize those a little as well just out of caution. The middle screw can still have a round hole. Amazing work though. Wish I could weld like that!

I completely forgot about the expansion and contraction! Should be an easy fix, project for the weekend. All your suggestions makes sense, appreciate the detail in your comment, I don't do nearly enough wood working. :)

When I saw the notification, I was curious how you gonna do all the carpentry work and then realized you are pro at the welding job. Joined the channel for those awesome burner builds and ended up doing one with your videos as inspiration and enjoying many strir fried receipes to this date. Anyway, very cool build. Hope next upgrade would be having some sort pneumatic to make table go up and down :D

Really cool desk! Love the custom base you fabricated! I'd recommend adding some finish to the bottom of the desk so the wood absorbs/releases moisture at an even rate. Doesn't need to be as finely finished as the top but its usually a good idea to finish both sides of a project. its also a good idea to embed a piece of flat iron or c-channel in the bottom of a table to help prevent any cupping or warping.

Oh that is a good point about finishing the bottom. I hear you on the cupping, I had an issue with another table where I did embed some angle iron to keep it from cupping. Thanks for the suggestions!

its all cool but it isn't very DIY if you have 9000 professional tools to do it. Like if I wanted to do this at home, I'd have to buy so many tools that i wouldn't even know where to find the money to buy half of them. So of course it's cheaper to buy pre made table at IKEA..
