I used the same wallpaper for 8 years on all my iPhones. With my new 12 Pro, I finally switched. Both were color gradients. Previously it was a deeply saturated gradient, I have now moved to something less saturated and more pastel. (to align with design language of current times....haha. everyone is doing pastels these days) My MacBook wallpaper is always just the default for the OS.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the thickness, they’ve shown that they’re okay with adding thickness to products if necessary. If they thought that they should get rid of the chin for design purposes, they would have. I’m sure they have mock-ups with 50 different design variations. Chin, no chin, small chin, big chin, etc. Other than tech reviewers, I have not seen a single bad thought about the iMac chin. I have no problem with it...I am a very technical person but I also have an extensive design background. It adds a level of design and aesthetic over just a straight up display. Also....people that have iMacs, use that chin A TON. People put sticky notes there, stickers there, decoration there. All sorts of things. I think you guys might be plagued a bit with the “over minimalization” of design. There’s a fine line between minimalism that produces clean aesthetics and minimalism that is just weird and can feel cold/industrial.
@Mb0ts3 жыл бұрын
Finally I hear someone say this. I also like the look of the chin

@Kiel Enrique yeah. I've also seen Dave's video and he seems like one of the few who like it. I wish i had reason to buy the new iMac. I hope they'll make just a monitor in this form factor
@okachobired58563 жыл бұрын
i owned an iMac for plenty of years. I was looking forward to no chin. My large tv/monitor doesn't have a chin. Nothing wrong with a clean no chin design. This design is going backwards. Our phones don't have chin, monitors don't have a chin, tablets don't have a chin and yet Apple in their wisdom keeps their chin. Three steps forward and two steps back.

Hot take: The iMac chin is for the silhouette for people to recognize the product.
@julianc5283 жыл бұрын
This only works for the iMac and the iPhone. What about the iPad? It's silhouette is just rounded rectangle. No notch. No chin. Same goes for the Apple Watch. Just pointing out that I don't think it's ONLY for recognizability. If it were then all their products would have something like that.

I think a lot of tech reviewers are missing one of the main advantages of the external power/ethernet adapter. There are many global safety/EMC compliance standards (UL, CE, FCC etc.) when dealing with mains voltage/ethernet and it can be difficult to combine with modern small electronics. If they tried to put the power supply and ethernet circuitry inside the iMac it would have required to be on a separate PCB and possibly insulating materials to prevent shorts to the aluminum case. It is much easier to design one external power adapter and avoid having high voltage on the computer itself. Apple oversized this power supply (143W) for the M1 24" iMac and they will likely use it on future iMacs and Mac Mini/Pro. It's a really smart solution and will reduce cost.

I use a wallpaper app that changes my wallpaper at intervals. I have it set up so my lock screen and every screen I swipe to left and right has a different photo and sometimes a different photo source to pull from. I love it because I have a new background every time I open my phone. And for me it is a good way to reminisce on photos I have taken in the past and previous fun times I have had. If Google was to add a scenic option, which would take the driver through more uninhabited routes, shore lines, etc, that may be an option people would be happy. However, as eco sounds fascinating, people want to go from point a to point b asap, unless they want to experience the route (i.e. scenic)

M1 iMac: The chin is there for two reasons. 1, To show off the colour 2, which is the paramount reason... The chin makes the iMac silhouette instantly recognisable. Exactly like the iPhone notch, the home button replacement. Otherwise it's just a box/rectangle and Apple always aims for an instantly recognisable silhouette. Think of a single colour icon of this and how would you know it's a Apple product.

android 12 should use blur for transparent surfaces and global illumination for hovering stuff (yes, in addition to the soft shadows/ambient occlusion). It seems like they just want to avoid looking too much like apple instead of trying to look as pleasing as possible...

It would be fun to see a LG signature display in the background instead of the waveform logo art that we see. It might serve its purpose as you might want to project something you're talking about on that display. And when you're not it can show the animating waveform logo of sorts. Just a suggestion
