As someone who is into both fashion/design and cars (probably to an unhealthy extent), I have a lot to say about Jaguar’s weird rebrand. While I wasn’t surprised Ferrari started their own high end fashion brand (outside of their usual logo merch/racing gear), seeing Jaguar do this kind of weird fashion-looking ad is rather surprising. What’s more surprising is that it isn’t classic tailoring for men and women which would fit along with their usual heritage styling. I don’t have an utter disgust like a lot in that particular comment section…I’m just confused on the design language of the garments being shown. When I think Jaguar and fashion (even as someone who really doesn’t care much for any of their cars), I picture a close resemblance to what designers like Ralph Lauren has built up. Even a collaboration would make more sense. I just don’t get it. I was so confused I went to the website and thought there was somehow a clothing brand that got the website but they aren’t related to the manufacturer at all, but how wrong I was. Again, I just don’t get it. I can’t even imagine what the concept car would look like either. Edit: I’ve always liked the Jaguar XJR15.

I love my Chromebook and ChromeOS. As a person who works for a I.T. Managed Service Provider, I forget that I have apps and it's more of a hassle to use apps. We are centered around Microsoft and I use web for Teams and Outlook and the support products that we use are all web based. I only use the Outlook desktop app for 1 email address when I'm on-site for 30 days every other month. I run at the least, 14 browser tabs every day. I can literally do my job as an I.T. support agent on a Chromebook. We have clients who are in a broad range of industries, from financial, construction, utilities, fabrication, so it's not like we've got only one type of business we support, we support a wide range of industries. And despite being almost 50, I've quickly and fully adapted to a browser based life. I'm actually considering moving from PC to Chromebox.

I believe the main idea of splitting products off of companies is that it creates more competition. What's the first thing Google will do once they let go of Chrome? Create a new browser for their search engine. What's the first thing Chrome will do once they're riding solo? Expand, try to innovate more, maybe even build a search engine.

Apple has never shifted everything into the cloud because they are a device company, incentivised for customers to buy devices as their services are not competent. Google wants everything in the cloud as they are a services company. Powerful Chromebooks are useful when you boot them into a linux distribution at which point they become even more usable and productive than a Macbook.

Also, languages don't match 1-1. I speak English and German and the first problem I see is word oder. In German the verb is usually on the last place in a (however long) sentence. You can't translate that word-by-word in real time into English without sounding stupidly clumsy. "You can't that word-by-word in real time into English without being stupidly clumsy translate" is a terrible sentence. There are of course language pairs where this woulnd't be an issue, but there will be other similar challenges... As for German to English, it is going to have a long lag or will be... well... bad.

One of the problems with real-time translation is that different languages use different sentence structures (for example, where in the sentence the subject is placed). So, actual real-time translation between languages with very different grammar/sentence structures will probably only be possible if the AI could get really good at predicting what you were going to say based on the context of the whole conversation. Otherwise, it would need to wait for you to finish the whole sentence to accurately translate it.

Here's my thing with doing things locally. If you don't have your laptop with your local files on it, where are your files? Why be tied down to a specific device? What if that device gets destroyed, what happens to all those locally stored files? I can sign into the cloud, get access to my files regardless of it being on a PC, Mac, or even a Chromebook and I'm not tied to a device that may break at any time for any number of reasons.

For the last 10 years Jaguar has been spending lots of money making all their cars great to drive while skimping on interior features. They figured eventually the driving dynamics would help them get people to consider them when buying a 3 series or an X3. Unfortunately it didn't work so the next logical step is a rebrand. I really don't have much a problem with it (although the ad is a bit cringe. Don't put "copy nothing" in the forefront of a generic ad).

Google forcing Chrome to use this new engine that makes adblocking much more difficult to enhance their own advertising platform is a good reason why Chrome needs to be detached from Google. Regarding Marquez's question about "what prevents Google from being a shadow owner of new independent Chrome" - The judge will likely set up a lot of rules and restrictions around the breakup to prevent exactly that.

Google has the money to make desktop Linux a real thing. Just make it partially Android or something. Android already runs on a modified Linux kernel and Linux Foundation still considers Android just another distribution. Linus Torvalds said ages ago that Android and Linux would come to a common kernel, but that hasn't yet happened. I personally moved 3/4 of my rigs (incl. my gaming rig) onto Linux, because I just absolutely hate what Microsoft is doing with Windows 11 and how every Microsoft app is just utter trash. people complain about rebrands but here’s the truth (in a designer): your personal opinion is entirely irrelevant, it doesn’t matter. these processes might seem expensive but they are not. Rebrands always generate serious cash for the company’s. always. Recently Kia and Pringles went through the wringer on this too. universal hate but guess what: both have made a ton of cash because the strategies were spot on. all that negatively not only was misplayed but incorrect. The only mistake Jaguar made here was announcing it. All they needed to do is change it and skip the video.

Google shouldn't sell Chrome. Instead, they should be forced to let users pick between different options while setting up a new device or app rather than having their options set as defaults. For Example, when you install Chrome, it asks you what search engine you want to use and lets you pick between four or five options.

The V4 chargers never said they would use CCS, ccs is dead and any car that uses it just has to use an adapter. All the new chargers are NACS. Also they never said they would swap out the v3 cabinets. The new v4 cabinets support 8 stalls vs only 4 from v3 so they’re just building new stations.

ELI5 why bluesky is using a different protocol than the other two? and is jack dorsey right all along that bluesky is going again the route of twitter?

I feel threads is better than X. but Bluesky seems good but we should just wait for it to scale up.
