I have a 2017 jetta and it does not show the option to select android auto. it is just stuck at mirror link. I even did the factory reset on it couple of times but no help. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks, I thought I had to web search for an entire day to find this info. too bad about the wired connection but at least now I got the up on the display not on my phone on my lap ;)

Sadly my father's car doesn't have the app connect function because it is an optional (Touran 2016)

Yes! When paired to your Android device, it will show your Google Maps directions on the display. It's pretty awesome!

Currently you have to connect via your phone's USB cable, but there's a potential that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will allow wireless connection in the future. The good news is that while plugged in your phone is getting charged.

The only thing I've heard of having wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay is from BMW (I think, it may be another luxury brand). All other cars currently have wired requirement. However, both Apple and Google have indicated that wireless is coming and it appears there may be some aftermarket stereos coming out with wireless available. For now though, all new car models will have the wired requirement.

If you want to only and always use Android Auto, do you have to go through that initial 50 second setup every time you start the car, or just the first time?

I would assume that it would only be the first time since it's the Android operating system...but I'm an iPhone user so I couldn't say for sure.

Thanks for the question...I'm no Android phone or Android Auto expert, but I did a quick Google search and of the things I've read, it does seem that you can use offline maps...

Google Maps automatically downloads your local area to your phone for offline usage. If you want to extend your offline map coverage you can use the 'Offline' section from the navigation bar in the application.

what is this head unit number ? can it be installed on golf 6 2011 ?

+Jérémy Hagège I'm not a mechanic or a car audio specialist, but I'm going to bet the answer is no. However, I have seen some aftermarket products coming out that may be an option for you.

No android auto is free to download. But your phone must be connected to Data and not wifi during your journey.

Watch the video. You don't use Mirror Link. Where it says that, you have to change it to Android Auto

@@JacobVanEkelenburg u see I did that I followed every step in this video........I did change it to android auto but it's still saying mirror link is not supported with this device ........but then I used my dad's iPhone 6+ ......and my god that is ten times easier.....all u need to do is connect Ur phone and THEN BOOM Ur using Apple carplay so now we r using Apple carplay

well this is confusing.. I had a 2011 tiguan that did not need this much steps to hook up to bluetooth. I could play music from my phone using whatever I wanted and it would come right on the car speaker.. Now I have a 2017 tiguan and apparently it's an obstacle to hook up my bluetooth and I can't even listen to what I want? I can only use two options? That is super lame VW!

Hmm have you checked out our Bluetooth video for the 17 Tiguan? It should work like any other Bluetooth connection/device. I'm an iPhone user, so I'm not totally sure how the Android Auto setup works...
