Android Auto Part #1 Lets get connected to the NT 1100

This is the First in a series of Videos exploring Android Auto. In No 1 we are setting up connections to the Honda NT 1100 Wireless and Wired.

I must be doing something wrong. I can't connect to my headset. (I do not use third-party bluetooth adapters) When I connect the phone via the cable, I get a message "for android-auto to work, you need to connect the headset as well" and there are 2 options to choose from - "connect the headset" or "don't use the headset"... If I choose "connect" , then the motorcycle does not find my headset(( Do I need to do all this in a certain sequence or something... I have already tried all the options(

Hello @delorenzo8588. Check your headset is not connecting via Bluetooth to your mobile. I found that if you start up the headset before the bike and your phone connects to it you can't connect it to Android Auto. Unpair the headset from the phone to ensure it doesn't connect. @@kimetogo Yes, thanks, as if everything worked out. Disconnected the phone first, as you said, and first connected the headset. But I still can't understand the principle of operation of all these connections... That is, the NT1100 and the headset are connected to my phone at the same time using bluetooth, and when I call someone, the NT1100 is automatically selected on the phone instead of the headset. Accordingly, I need to stop, pick up the phone, change "bluetooth" from "NT1100" to "headset" in the menu, and only then I hear the interlocutor's sound in the helmet... In general, it's all somehow very illogically done, and something always "falls out" and need to make these connections again and again ((

​@@DeLorenzo8588 This is how I believe it all comes together. 1) Connect the Phone via cable to the NT 1100 USB Port. 2)Turn Headset on (wait till it fully boots up), 3) Then turn NT 1100 on. The phone will connect to the bike via the USB cable and the NT 1100 will then will detect the Headset (if Paired) and connect to the NT 1100 via bluetooth. NOTE the Bluetooth connection Headset to Phone is not required (Unpair and forget Headset on your mobile its not required). From here onwards your Headset is connected to your NT 1100. Let me know if you connected sucessfully using this method ?

@@kimetogo It worked) But still, it works somehow strangely. Today I went for a ride, and in the first 3-5 minutes the system turned off and turned on again about 8-10 times))) Android auto is turned off, android auto is turned on, and so many times... then everything was fine) Thanks🖐

@@DeLorenzo8588 Glad to see you can now connect. You may be able to increase connection reliability by cleaning the USB port. In this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGG4d5Roma1rn5Y I explaing what USB leads I use and there are links to them in the description, and how to clean the USB ports, After I did this to mine connection reliability was greatly improved. Morning Alex. I will be testing this week on the dry days, as I need to make a waterproof enclosure before fixing it in it's final position. Will be stuck on the fairing temporary (3M Tape) while I test the performance. If all is good it gets a permanent home on the NT. So far I haven't seen any issues though. A very interesting video, my only concern would be the battery drain on the phone as it is no longer hard wired? We all now how using maps sucks the life out of the phone! I have recently (yesterday)! Used Android auto for the first time, I was really impressed and having the phone connected via a cable kept the battery charged, the only downside I found was the sound/speech was very quiet? Maybe I need to experiment further! Bye for now, Dennis.

I haven't yet done any testing for battery life but now it's installed I will check it out and report my findings. I am planning to put my mobile under the seat on longer journeys, as I have installed 12v Power and USB sockets under my seat, which are planned to be used for various items and projects I have planned going forward. Most local trips for me are less than 1 hr so hopefully battery is ok for that amount of time. Thank you for the comment, great channel you have there @Hinckley_Biker also. Cheers

I was just reading in my handbook about Android auto and they don't recommend placing your phone under the seat as heat could be a problem leading to phone damage? Just thought I would give you the heads up 👍

Thanks for the info much appreciated. Up till now I've had the phone stuck inside my jacket although the weather has been Cold. Your advice has Certainly has made me put ventillation at the top of my list when I make a descision where to keep it. Cheers

@@kimetogo At last!! I have the quiet sound in my headset sorted, after a (proper) read of the handbook I found the settings for the various volumes on the TFT menu. Perfectly audible even at motorway speed now 😄I like how you can flick from sat-nav to main screen and still receive audible directions, I noted on some reviews people said they didn't like how they lose the main screen when using Android auto/Car play, well, they don't have to! Update on Battery life when using Android Auto wirelessly. I have a Google pixel 7 and have just completed a 6 hr run and the phone was down to 40% after this time. Phone was 100% at start. So there are no issues with power drain with my current setup..

This was created with the free video editing software called Clipchamp Link here clipchamp.com/en/windows-video-editor/ Basically you create a template with the intro and outro only. and you change the video content every time you want a new video. Hope this helps. Cheers

@@AlexEllwein THa startup screen for Android Auto which displays th NT logo is actually the motorbike startup screen, this is not part of the Android Auto 's Hondas creation. I don't know if this can be changed at all but there maybe someone out there clever enough to do so. Hope this is what you mean. Cheers

@@kimetogo the screen shows, when the android auto kicks in, shows "kime to go" logo over google maps ... somehow? this is not video editing i assume

@@AlexEllwein This is done in Clipchamp. You first create the text as an image and you place this image on a timeline on the video editor (The image can be placed anywhere and any size). Place on the timeline where you need it to start and finish. It basically superimposes the image over the video. Hope this helps

I would first make sure it can work wired, because that is the most basic connection and should at least connect in most cases. Did you get a connection with android Auto with the USB Lead?

Update on the Wireless Dongle I have used it twice now it connects up ok but I have had 2 dropouts which required bike restart. I am trying to identify what is happening and will update here and in the Android Auto Playlist. Can't recommend this Donge for the NT 1100 yet. but I'm working on a solution. Cheers
