The data may be in the google storage forever but that doesnt mean YOU have access to YOUR personal info stored. If you dont pay the ongoing fees being pushed now, its like irl, renting a storage unit. You fail to pay, you lose your items. Who gets ahold of it all, its out of your hands. . Why suggest this to naive consumers as a best solution.. seems short sighted due to the unacvountable losses many have had already. I appreciate gour info and efforts

I used this app and it worked great! The problem I'm having is how do I transfer my bookmarks? Do I go back into my old phone and back-up my bookmarks somehow and then I'm not sure what to do from there.

What is your old phone? If it is Android you can go into Google Chrome and sync your Google Account then you will need to save your Bookmarks again and they will sync in Chrome. Then on the new phone sync your account on Chrome and they should all be there.

I know this is an older video, but I am encountering issues. I just tried this method and most of the process worked really well for me. Thank you! My only obstacle seems to be that all my text messages have backed up except for messages I have sent to people. In other words, my message threads only include the messages I have received, but not the ones I've sent. Is this common or am I just impatient and it's taking a while to load?

Does the so still say it is transferring? If it is complete try rebooting the phone to see if they had. If you still had the phone with the original messages you can try the method I mention in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH_NqYight1mors

You can try and just have the message backup selected so it does not have to scan through the full phone. Maybe make sure you are using the default message app first and see if you get better results.

I think the big problem is is that you only get service on one phone or the other at a time, so you can't have say your Sprint service working on both phones. And if you have an old phone where the Wi-Fi no longer works, you're kind of screwed, unless they can get Sprint to allow both phones to be active. I find it easiest just to save everything in my gallery to my SD card, and same with my downloads. That's one easy way. I kind of just go through and delete all of my texts anyway and go through all my voicemails and delete them. LG Mobile switch usually does the rest, but the problem is is getting both phones active so they can transfer data to one another. That's where a call to your provider needs to be made. Don't forget to transfer all your memos if they aren't already in something like Google keep or Evernote.

What about games? If you transfer a game from old devices to another one, the way people tell you to, does it restore your progress? Is it all there but on another phone? or do you basically just download the app to start over. Smh. I have to get a replacement cause my phone isnt going to be working soon and I dont wamt to lose progress on my games if I chose to continue playing. I want it an the other phone but dont want to start over. Sorry to bother. Just thought I would ask cause I dont know.

@@RieeBellaHoney Oh wow, I wouldn't want to lose my progress on a game either. If Wi-Fi still works on your phone, you should still be able to continue your game progress on your actual device. I don't imagine that it would probably transfer over your progress, but maybe it does since you are logged in. I've never tried transferring a game myself. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance oh, but I would definitely try continuing your game in Wi-Fi mode.

Just have the regular data plan whatever. I might have mobile hotspot, but not sure if that even works..if I do. Sucks if I can't continue the game. I know that if you still have your device and connection to internet the games will work, is that what you're sayin? I thought that might be possible. I saw some videos and read some articles that you can move your apps to the new phone. The last time I got a new phone I went to the store and they did it, i signed in and everything but they didn't transfer my apps over. Now from what I saw and read, you can. But not sure of that means your progress or just the game. Idk. The phone with the games on it is my old phone(which is still in use by my mother but not for long since it has to be replaced). The one I'm using now is my phone..that the store didnt transfer the games to. So I still could kinda play them when I wanted to/able to Haha. But I tried to put them on my phone, didn't work. Maybe I did it wrong cause it started from the befinning..like i said. idk. So maybe when the replacement phone comes I can sign in there and transfer data, games, etc from that old phone to the replacement? Idk. I saw a video or 2 that says you can use Facebook or play games to get your game back where you left off on new devices but I dont think I used them when I got the app/game in the first place. I just played the game. I know you can play one game on different devices but i guess it has to be that way fb or play games. Idk. Dont know how to do that either. A few years ago they helped me transfer a game through email/support from one device to another, but not sure they will still do that. They just needed some info. Idk. Not really since you don't have access to the phones menus. If you were signed into you Google account most things should come over. If you have a Samsung account it could have backed up information as well. Make sure you move the Micro SD card over as well.

I just used the AT&T transfer app to transfer the contacts from my S6 to a new S8. However, the S8 has a "me" in the contact list that just has my name and phone number, and all of the info for myself from the S6 is listed separately. How do I "merge" or re-assign it so that my phone recognizes my S6 contact for myself as "me"??

I think for the S8 it is all stored under the My Profile and it doesn't add a new contact. You could also just rename the Me contact and use that as the main contact for you.

From what I can tell you need to connect your app to Facebook and then it will sync once you connect the S9 app to Facebook as well.

used smart move to move from a note 5 to a note 10 and all the many applications I have where installed BUT none of them where placed on various screens I had on my old phone. Much time is spent building the many screens. Worse NONE of each apps custom config was NOT moved. You'll have to setup each app again. Geeze, this is the MAIN thing I needed help with. Moving pictures etc is not that big a deal. Its all the app config that is a seroius pain. --- I re-ran smart move -- same, app setup was not moved. I'm stuck having to setup all apps all over.

Try selecting one at a time. The other options is to Copy the files onto a Micro SD and move it to a new phone or see if there is an up that you can upload the files to and then download on the new phone.

Why hasn't Viber provided an option to make such local transfer? They force you to go through Google Cloud to transfer your Viber messages to another phone. By comparison, Signal backs up everything onto your phone with an encryption. How is Viber developer so inconsiderate of privacy? Why should I be forced to share all my Viber activity with Google in order to transfer history to another phone? It's such a let down. Evidently Viber does store a database file of message activity locally on the phone, but it is in an internal, hidden directory that can only be accessed by rooting the phone which is really not something a regular user should be involved in. Why not just provide an option to create backup locally on the phone? It's so strange... They even have a warning: "Please note that once your date is saved to the could, it is no longer protected by Viber encryption, and is controlled by Google's privacy definitions and practices." So why not provide an option for a local backup? It's amazing how simple things like that are not thought out by people that should know better.

*Tip for those whose text messages didn't restore to the new phone after trying to restore with SMS Backup and Restore* When you open the Messages app after restoring, it will ask to make it the default app for text messages. Hit Yes of course. If the messages don't show up in the Messages app after restoring from SMS Backup and Restore, go back to SMS Backup and Restore on the new phone and look at the display that says something like 'Messages not showing up in the default messages app? Go into settings, Storage and Clear Data" Click settings directly from this message, click Storage, and Clear Data. Now open up the Message app again, and all the text messages will show up.
