The guy who did the review only pin pointed the negative sides of the device. He didn't even mention the open micro usb port and the 5MP camera. Also the 2 day battery life is based on average usage, not heavy usage. He didn't discuss the rear camera and for the record, the back panel is plastic and not glass. Get your information right. I was hoping Josh would review this unit. Very disappointing review from AA.

This truly is a terrible review and i'm very disappointed in AA. For anyone interested in this phone i would recommend any other review, don't consider this one. According to this review the plastic frame feels out of place with the premium design, after all this is a mid range phone and most other mid range phones don't feel or look as good. The reviewer complains about the placement of the volume button as there's nowhere for your thumb to rest, are you serious?? You can rest it where it sits naturally and it won't have any affect on the user expereince unless you press the button, pressure would need to be applied in order to do so. Apparently the frame of the phone feels cluttered but he doesn't mention the fact that phone has an exposed micro usb port and is still waterproof. The flaps are for the micro sd card and the sim card, they once again dont affect user expereince. Its a beautiful looking phone for the price. He doesn't comment on the ability of the 5mp front facing camera! He also mentions that the phone overheats, does he have any proof of this? Either a short video showing this or at least a screenshot with the notification, unless he's confusing overheating with a warm phone? Even flagships get warm so what's the point being made here? He doesn't go into any particulars in terms of battery life especially screen brightness. The two days battery life estimation given by Sony is during medium use, he could have found that out if he'd read the small print on the box of the phone. The annoyance of the app drawer toggle is a complete farce, this will happen around 4 times in the space of 2 years. This review needs to be done again by somebody more able!!

I concur on every point, instead of focusing on the fact that the plastic frame detracts from the premium feel, why not say from a mid range stand where others in the segment settle for plastics and cheaper materials, the glass enhances the device offering a more premium feel, resulting in a less forgettable device in a sea of average. Seeing as how many reviewers lambasted HTC and their button placement being further up the side panel, resulting in it being awkward and unfriendly to one handed use. The M4 Aqua keeps everything ergonomically placed. The frame again is only as cluttered as any other sealed battery handset on the market today. Only devices with removable back panels avoid this. Which isn't industry standard. If this guy actually suffered over heating he'd have shown the result of when it really happens and focused on how the camera self closes etc and its actual downsides in practical every days use cases. Battery life is too subjective but if you're going to look into it, it needs to be compared to at least two of the other leading mid range offerings. Also if you can't do that then there should have been comparisons between battery life without any of Sonys baked in battery saving software and then with STAMINA mode etc turned on. This is so dismissive and flippant and is clearly just offered up as filler until the next big news comes out.

The reviewer sets the tone straight from the beginning; dull, boring and very negative. Very few positives are mentioned and have a 'bad point' on either side. He could have done so much better but the outcome seems predetermined, which is disappointing coming from AA.

TheTrueHappy I won't ask if that's in pounds or dollars as it doesn't matter. Which 64bit 8 core phone, as well as being waterproof, running lollipop very close to how Google intended, has good battery life and will be supported for updates for probably 2 years are you talking about? This also has a 13mp rear camera and 5mp front shooter as well as micro SD support. Good viewing angles, very bright screen and a near enough premium build.

let me tell you about this phone. I had this phones for 3 months. the good thing is 1) The screen is amazing you don't even need to turn on your brightness this going to save you lot battery 2) Its is fast runs very smooth 3) Easy navigation 4) Great for gaming doesn't really get hot i close everything to keep it nice and cool 5) Very cheap only for £200 6) Way better than those low quality phone you can play clash of clans in this phone (Sony m4) Bad thing 1) I'm having a problem with my SD card port it kept on sticking out 2) Get really hot if you runs a lot programmes at the same time 3) Charging battery to full can take more than 12 hours however if you turn on power saving mode and turning on airplane mode can save you a lot power which take 2 hours to charger btw it said on you phone how long the batter will take to charger 4) Think before you buy There's more problem I cant remember.

I don't understand what Sony is doing. I own a Z2 and it's a great device, but they really haven't made any improvement to any of their lineups in the last year, while still pricing aggressively. This phone should be maximum $250 in the states, and then Sony wonders why they keep losing money in the mobile division. Well i just got the phone and...the sound is not tiny, its actually really nice. The plastic on the sides isnt that noticable or strange. It doesnt seem mediocre to me. Overall, cool phone!;-)

I purchased this phone last weekend, it is much faster than a ZTE Blade V6, also the camera is impressive Exmor RS sensor produces excelent HDR photos, similar IMO than the photos of a Galaxy S5 which was a flagship just 2 years ago. Very impressed with the sound, specially if you have Sony big headphones like I do.

Based on benchmark test, M4 Aqua has better performance than the Zenfone 2. It's water resistance and premium omnibalance design is also a plus. I honestly prefer M4 Aqua but if you want a larger screen, the Zenfone 2 is a pretty nice and affordable device. :)

If you're not stuck on the waterproofing/durability and you don't plan on playing audio out loud. Samsung Galaxy A5 is the best alternative. Firstly, the A5 is faster cause it has a very light version of TouchWiz on Android 4.4/5.0 Secondly, the A5 has a much better camera. Sony camera's only perform well when north of 20mp. The A5 takes almost DSLR standard pictures when used correctly. Thirdly, the A5 is faster thanks to the light version of TouchWiz (no bloatware) on top of Android 4.4/5.0. Finally, the A5 comes with 16GB internal storage as opposed to the Aqua's 8GB, the A5 is expandable to 64GB. Other than that they're VERY similar phones.

Eduardo MV feels nice for a phone that price, the back is a print magnet, but you can get a case for that (aliexpress for like 3$). Front camera is amazing and wide angle, the back is ok, i don't see a difference, but is slow to start, so you'll have to predict before taking a pic. (not really that big of a problem, had a nice photo shoot today and it didn't bother me once i got used to it) The screen is great, 720p is actually better than 1080, since it's a lot less pixels to light up, thus using less power. The speaker sounds nice and loud, he's just being over-sensitive, probably comparing it to a 1k$ phone Battery is actually great, with stamina, it lasts about 3-4 days if you're whiling to push it. For example, i'm charging it today after 3 days of gaming during bus rides (30min to go and come back), texts, calls, snapchats, whatsapp, mumble for a bit. Ultra stamina mode actually feels like it drains the battery more than stamina. After it reaches 10% (where i set my battery saver to start), it can probably last another day, went to a theme park last week, started at 15, because of calls it went down to 10 quite fast (maybe ultra stamina too), then 9%, where it stayed for the rest of the day and was at 8% when i got home probably 8h later to charge it. Pretty damn good battery, and i used to have a flip phone, those last forever. (battery was dead and it still lasted a day) Overheating is more like heating, it does heat up during settings and messaging, but web/youtube is usually pretty cold. I believe this is because the cpu is placed directly to the back cover, thus making heat dissipation easy for the cpu, but hot for your hand. The internal storage is a bit small, but you can save quite a bit by removing all the pre-installed crap, you have plenty to chose from. For media, you would need an sd card on the 8gb version if you take pics or have a lot of music. Overall, i enjoy it a lot more than what i used to have, my only problem being that it is too slim (would have liked a thicker phone with a bigger battery)(ps: i have big hands). Oh and the volume buttons are under the start button, it would have been more intuitive for me if they were over the start button, would have enabled me to have a better grip on it, not big, but would have been nice. Having it able to switch the top with the bottom would have been nice too. Performance is good, don't really have any problems with it, i use greenify to keep apps off when not using them so no useless drainage and keeps it snappy. The load is usually a bit longer, but not much. Overall it is a great phone and its only competitor is the zenfone 2 (at least in canada) That was my two cents on the m4 aqua, feel free to mention anything that i forgot or any additional questions.

i just started having a problem with mine last week, when this problem started, it began with crashing and shutting down every time i try to play music, now its evolved to not allowing me to connect to wifi or bluetooth, the only way i can is if i restart it but even then those features will work for maybe 25 minutes tops, now a new part of it is when i do manage to go on the internet it crashes, shuts down, tries to start itself back up then crashes on the Sony screen shuts down, restarts itself then keeps crashing on the Sony screen. it will do thatfor a good 10 minutes before it can actually start up, anyone else experiencing this?

i bought this phone on september 2015, and it's not working anymore. 3 days ago, the screen just turned black and it doesn't open at all anymore. There's been many issues too with this phone that others have said here in comments also. Heating problems, sd card port kept on sticking out, it takes about 10 hours to load the battery to 100%, volume is reeally quiet even when it's turned as loud as possible, and 8gb is really much less than 8gb because android system and phone's own applications that you can't delete etc like calendar, calculator and other necessary things take so much more space there's nearly not any space for your own things loading apps, taking pictures etc. think before buying it. and tomorrow i will get huawei honor 5x, i believe it's more worth to buy than THIS, and i'm sure it atleast can't be worse than m4 aqua.

Does anyone have provlem while recording or playing any kind of videos? When i record something and i want to play it i can only hear voices in video but screen is black! Also i cant play videos on youtube and internet

I have an issue with this phone that I can't resolve. I can't record videos properly, when I want to record a video every thing looks like it's working fine on the display, but when I go back to gallery to view them, the video picture is blank but the background sound is working fine. Any Ideas anyone???

Guys my xperia m4 is crappingout and i just bought it today i have installed no apps and it just keeps restarting its connecting to anything and sometimes the screen goes black for a few seconds please help me i uave reset it like 3 times but still nothing happens.

Huh... Looks like I chose right with the Z3. If you can get a used Z3 it'll be miles better. Got mines off of swappa for the price of this M4 and the seller claims it to be mint. I doubt it but it's new to me and that's all I really care about lol. Could be for all I know. Either way I'm happy with it. It's a shame the M4 seems so cheap (not price. Specs) as it looks like a very nice phone

Erick Z agree. The sony app drawer menu is exist in all sony device included flagship and the review mention that as incredibly annoying and frustrating.. I'm like really? But this review is quite details, example from this review can know that the bottom grill is not function as speaker, speaker quality. common but not the overheat issue, many device using the chip set that is in M4 Aqua or maybe should define heat. IMO, many phone came with preinstall apps that can be remove that shouldn't be emphasize as a downside in review.

Everyone that has ever bought a smartphone has always purchased a protective case for it. So remarks about the outer casing are totally moot ....Having all sorts of connector inputs is the reason I buy Android phones in the first place. Apples couture design makes it a pain when your limited to the one input. Dictating function for style sake is what Dbag phones are all about.

I'm typing on a Z3 Compact right now, and this "newer" Sony phone doesn't even seem better performance/build/value-wise than my phone which came out last year. Granted it cost more but a year later you'd think Sony would at least match phones like the Asus Zenphone 2.

I had to stop after the 1:10 mark. Dude this is a MID-RANGE phone. Don't complain for using plastic frame as it is not a flagship device. No other midrange phones (or some Samsung highend phones) look this good. Educate yourself.
