The flat back form factor is a win for me. Probably not worth the upgrade from an 8a but if you come from something else, it's probably worth the wait at the category.

I have a Pixel 4a that received a battery-killing update from Google. But for this, we got a €120 hardware coupon. When the Pixel 9a is released, I hope the 8a gets an extra discount, and with my coupon and trade-in, it will be an unbelievably cheap deal.🤑

Hmmmmmmm, I'm looking at the Pixel 9A and the rear camera housing doesn't look completely flushed with the device.......it appears to protrude ever so slightly and since it doesn't stretch across the phone, I can see it wobbling a bit if you should use it while it's laying on a desk or table. Every Pixel device's rear camera bar or "visor", beginning with the Pixel 6 series, stretched across the entire device, making them completely still if used while sitting on a desk or table. I also think the camera bar made for a kind of iconic and recognizable look, distinguishing the Pixel phones from all the others, so I'm not a big fan of the "new" rear camera housing on the upcoming Pixel 9A. Just my opinion!

Hardware wise, yes. I got a Pixel 8 Pro for $520 switched from Pixel 6a. Everything feels a lot better but barely any difference in performance. I was kinda shocked that there is no noticeable difference between the Tensor G1 and G3, it's only the benchmark score that differs.

I would be happy if the Pixel 9a had a slower processor than the Pixel 9. This is because for me the increase in battery life that you get with a slower processor is an exchange that is worth sacrificing processor speed for. My son's Nokia G10 has a 3 day battery life which is due to its large screen hiding a large battery, its screen being a lower power 720p LCD and its processor being a slow low power MediaTek G25 processor. I hope that the Pixel 9a takes similar steps to increase battery life. I do not like squared off edges because they make the phone less comfortable to hold. I prefer the rounded edges that I have in my wife's Pixel 6a and my iPhone SE 2020.

whats with google and thick bezels
@sjn_11 күн бұрын
It's not only Google. Even Samsung has thicker bezels on their budget level devices. Thin bezels are one of the representations of premium devices these days, hilarious I know, but this is where the companies have brought users to. Since the A models are their budget pixels, they have thicker bezels. Base and Pro have fairly thinner ones.
@michael_c210 күн бұрын
Problem is what if they update your phone with two days notice and break it forever like they did with the Pixel 4a. I don't even use that phone anymore. It's the principle that they're willing to break people's phones with two days notice without any reasonable or timely solution or acknowledgment of why they're doing it. Pixel is just not a trustworthy company
@ynnadanny4 күн бұрын
* the update is clearly to resolve a safety issue with the battery * Google has offered free battery replacements to affected users, which fixes the issue, or a £100 discount on the Google Store What do you want ? It's an end of life device that Google learned had faulty battery hardware. A faulty battery is an extremely dangerous battery, so Google simply had to take action. Whilst I agree Google should have communicated this much better, I think we just have to trust that Google believed the alternative is much riskier.

Google doesn't want to make the base Pixel 10 $500.00 Google will go bankrupt if they price their phones too reasonably.
@sjn_10 күн бұрын
@@Tyler_ThaTruth The none Pro is already the base model. What they need to do is, reduce the price of the a model because it was supposed to be their budget device but they keep hiking the price every year which doesn't make sense. I understand they have upgraded things to move away from the cheaper feeling but I believe the a series definitely has areas for Google to cut some of the build costs like using plastic build the same way as the Pixel 3a. I remember the 3a's initial release price was $399. Now, the a model costs $500 which is definitely not a "budget".
@michael_c210 күн бұрын
Some people like having the plastic back. It also ends up being bundled with prepaid carriers which doesn't happen as much with the Pixel 9. Also it allows them to grab a new cycle halfway through the year What they should do though is bring back the headphone jack and the capacitive fingerprint sensor because that was the real charm of the a series
