What a tory caught caught lying...get out of here... ohhh wait. watching 3 or 4 weeks of PMQ's as Boris's lies to parliament slowly unravel. Boris is a trump wanna be (without the armed lunatics) and his front benchers are no different to the sycophants that trump surrounded himself with. It's a tactic common to any party on the right. Control the conversation. If someone says something you can't answer, you interrupt them and try to pin something on them. Don't let them speak and don't let them get their point out. A terrible tactic which Andy Burham was able to get past.
@clowncarqingdao

I'm undecided on that. The Tory MP may well equally be simply stupid. I've talked to three Tory MPs (they initiated the conversation) and found all three of them to be quite stupid and unable to even repeat their own propaganda. That was three decades ago, before the newly appointed even-stupider-UKIP/Tory MPs.

I have to confess even as someone who isn't a tory, I thought the clean air bill was an Andy Burnham policy, even as someone who doesn't like the tories I'm influenced by their lies. Imagine how deep down a rabbit hole a daily mail reader has to be, as they constantly bombarded and consumed in a fantasy world. The scapegoating of the metropolitan mayor is happening in London as well. Boris Johnson, when he was mayor, forced Transport for London to be funded mostly by fares. Of course in 2020/21 fares went down by 90%. TfL asked this Tory govt for a bailout because without TfL the city doesn't run, never mind a covid recovery. What did the Tories say - put council tax up and transport fares up, or we'll not give you a penny. What do our regional Tory-press do? Encourage Londoners to blame the Mayor Sadiq Khan.

This is the problem , people are generally not interested in how things work locally and as the detail is boring they get their views from quick soundbites that the tories have become past masters at . In an area near me local people were interviewed about some major road works in the area and were up in arms due to the disruption it would cause by closing a major road. One lady said ' we need to remember this when the local councillors ask for our votes at election time . The problem was it was nothing to do with the local council , it was the Water Board that were carrying out essential water main or sewer replacements .

A fundamental problem is how poorly educated Brits are when it comes to Government and governance. Civics should play a fundamental role in every school curriculum as it does in most other countries. Back in 2012 a huge survey was carried out in the EU asking 17-18 year olds in their last year in school to answer 15 questions on the EU as an institution (question 1 was ‘ what do the initials EU mean’ and they got progressively harder). Germans scored 11 out of 15 several other countries 10 and 9 and France the lowest (apart from us) with 8. The UK scored….drumroll….the grand total of 3!! Is it little wonder that the Tabloids get away with murder when it comes to distortion and disinformation.

@MattBooth
@MattBooth 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, some of those "less desirable policies" will be "absolutely essential policies" to clean up the Tory mess. They gutted social care, so there's going to have to be a huge investment in social care. They gutted benefits, there's going to have to be a redress of the benefits system and entitlements. They gutted local authority funding, now our roads are failing to bits and infrastructure is crumbling (since each LA is responsible for this within their jurisdiction). They gutted police funding and criminal justice funding, etc. We can't fix anything without reversing the years of Tory mismangement and dismantling of the society the last Labour party built... which as a Conservative voter in 2007, you might not have agreed with at the time, but I can see you agree that Cameron's Conservatives were a mistake. When Jeremy Corbyn's party was saying "nationalise infrastructure" and talked about nationalising energy, they were laughed at and derided and yet here we are with energy companies making record profits whilst putting up prices at the time when people can least afford it. They cannot claim to have to meet rising costs whilst making record profits. Better yet, why does energy need to be sold for a profit? It's essential for human life. We cannot cook, clean or heat our homes without it. If funded through taxation or standing order, at no profit, in times of financial duress the government could opt to scrap the charge, cap the charge or waive the charge.

Its good to see this called out because its a ridiculous system to expect the government of the day to work in good faith with a council of an opposition party. It's just not a credible way of doing things. Then again I don't know the answer within the party system we have.

Andy Burnham is not a novice politician ; he devoted all his adult life to public service . He uses facts to make his points. I hope one day people realise that we need honest leaders, not clowns who care more about making us laugh than changing our lives.

What I find astonishing is that even with a (trial and error) tactic within government policies we should still start to see some progress, I am 52 years old and i can tell you that nothing (of any relevance) has changed in all my years, just an endless fumbling of pointing fingers and 10 year plans that never materialise, its pathetic that we are still paying for these incompetents.

The contemporary Labour handbook at play: Tenuous bizarre tie-in to Donald Trump Refer to something other than a budget as 'Cut' Describe something as 'Underfunded' without a definition of what adequate funding would be. By the way, yes clean air targets were imposed on local authorities. Others have handled it in a much better way than Manchester.

Glad the typical tory con trick has been explained to a national audience. "Blame the labour council for the problems" yet it's common practice for Labour councils to recieve less funding from tory governments. Also works for mopping up labour constituencies when the problems are blamed on the MP so locals vote tory without taking note of there being a 10 year long conservative government and then wondering how their area declined worse than ever.
