That they could get this much comedy outta two guys talking is extraordinary and ya just don’t see it today!

Well some folk were extremely lucky to have lived in those times where politics was not sprouted. In those days, TV shows were actually humorous meaningful.and entertaining. This was one of the greatest. 😄

Floyd work great at a barbershop. He was a great actor in the show of Andy Griffith

This was one of Howard McNear's first episodes after his stroke a year earlier. You can tell both from how immobile his left arm appears, and the fact that even when he is standing, he appears to be leaning back on the chair behind him. Andy Griffith and the producers fought for Howard to return, both for the show and because they thought it would help Howard in his recovery. He would always be shown seated, but on rare occasions when they needed to show Floyd actually cut hair, they arranged a special chair used for sailing that was small enough and high enough to give the appearence of Howard standing. Howard remained on the show until the seventh season when his health declined further (his last episode, Goober's Contest, where Floyd is prominent in the story, is hard to watch because his deterioration is visible.) Howard McNear died less than a year after TAGS ended.

He's totally my favorite supporting character on the show. You can tell that Andy really enjoyed his scenes with Howard. he always was cracking up or try not to when Howard delivered his lines.😂

Charles Dudley Warner actually said that famous quote first. Mark Twain used it in one of his lectures so he got credited for even though Mark Twain gave Warner credit for it.

I wonder if the actor who played Floyd already had his stroke when they taped this episode? I heard he did most of his scenes seated as he was no longer as mobile as before. Good he was able to going about longer!

Howard McNear played cantankerous Doc on Gunsmoke radio. Played a shrewd bargainer as a second hand junk dealer on The Real McCoys. And was still a good enough actor to play the out-of-touch, clueless Floyd to perfection.

The show was a hit from the start often with good life lessons in great episodes but got even better as time went on for example Andy started playing the role more laid back and not being so animated and sound too southern, and let Barney be the animated one. I thought Howard McNair was brave to bounce back and keep on working like he did because not everyone would do that, and he did a great job as did all the actors on the show!
