Enjoyed this interview, up-front and candid from both Andy Gray & Richard Keys. Most people would be absolutely mortified if their off-air comments were revealed, its usually in-the-moment stuff and not at all a true reflection of a person/persons and that goes for every walks of life. Critics should bear in mind that we all have flaws and its just plain wrong to hound others for silly mistakes. The effects on mental health is enormous and clearly evident these days on the sad passing of many TV personalities who just couldn't cope. Dearest Richard, empty out that back pocket of anger, come on, you deserve much better than carrying that around for all these years, release it out to the Universe... I think they were badly treated and their exile (admittedly in a nice warm climate with very low tax) has been long. What they said was unacceptable of course. However, from what I heard from people in the sports and media world who are usually fair and reliable is this: there was a visceral hatred of Richard Keys in many quarters, particularly among the studio staff and more junior members of Sky Sports. They saw him as someone who was too big for his boots and needed to be taken down a peg or two. He used to shout at staff and was a bully. Andy G wasn’t and he was generally respected for the good footballer that he’d once been and for his knowledge and opinions. Keys wasn’t: he was a Breakfast TV anchor who had ended up in one of the top jobs in world sport and he was very keen to let everyone know that. Apparently his behaviour in the studio was appalling. Don’t forget where this off air footage came from: a sound engineer/cameraman recorded it when they were off air and going through sound checks. Keys had personally behaved like a k**b to him and he had his revenge. Keys was seen as talentless and an unpleasant person to work with. I’m sorry he’s had some very dark moments and thoughts, but I also hope he’s reflected on the old saying that “what goes around, comes around” and is more humble and nicer to those who work very hard behind the scenes.
