@Bedrinonen9 жыл бұрын
thibault g they're both about 20 years old here, both unproven, and it's Rome. No one cared. That "argument" was just the old Murray, as a young player he used to get riled up over everything and nothing. Del Potro wearily comments "You are always the same, eh? You never change" which sums up Murray's behaviour in those days.

O'Brien 19 Del Potro won US Open at the age of 20 defeating Nadal and Federer
@Bedrinonen8 жыл бұрын
Aleksandre Gvenetadze Del Potro was almost 21 when he won the US Open in 2009, which is a year and a half after this match, and that was his first victory over Federer. His first victory over Nadal also came a while after this match too: at Indian Wells in 2009. At this point in time (May 2008) Del Potro was simply a gifted young player struggling with injuries. A couple of months after this tournament he won his first ATP event.

the biggest mystery here is not whether Delpo said "mother" or "manners", but why the stadium is almost totally deserted. Murray was ranked ~10 in the world at the time, and Del Potro was a highly prospected teenager who would be inside the top 10 himself within 6 months of this match. It's a master's match in Rome. WHERE THE FUCK IS EVERYONE!?

Murray was upset that Del Potro hit him with the ball instead of putting it away in the open court. However I ve seen murray do the same to other players. One instance was when he did that to Federer in the 2012 wimbledon finals. Also Murray's current coach was the master at doing that.

@sperrotta9110 жыл бұрын
"You and your mother, the same always". That's not so much talking shit as it is making a snide comment/speaking the truth. He's associating Murrays' infantile behaviour with its source. Del Potro should have not known better but it's a small dig (towards Murray's mother) at best... Of course when Andy hears the word "your mother" directed towards him he's instantly up in arms like most hotheads. Murray both starts and prolongs the whole thing...

***** Yes but 100% of their off-court relationship (roger/rafa) is on video and they behave for the camera. I do not disagree with you.. but my point is that we can only gauge based on what is seen in front of cameras.. in a situation where you have hundreds of millions of dollars of sponsorship and millions of fans around the world.. how you present yourself on camera is VITAL to your image.. take the bigger picture into account. In reality there is no way that Federer has deep respect for Nadal and the other side is true.. Nadal can think what he wants but his all-time tennis idols are Santana and Moya.. whereas Federer's idolized Laver, Edberg and Sampras.. I really do not think Nadal has deep respect for Federer as Nadal does not seem to care much about the history of the sport - basing this on a significant LACK of his verbal acknowledgement of the history of the sport.. whereas Federer has always been very vocal on this subject. When cameras are rolling - people smile and make nice.

The lack of objectivity from some sports fans is astounding... I clearly don't like Murray but at the same time I'm not blinkered. He's the better player and deserved to win the match but Del Potro was HARDLY destroyed.
@tomriddle40117 жыл бұрын
sperrotta91 Erm. That football analogy was awful. Teams that play better than their opponents lose quite often. How often do we hear the phrase 'The best team lost'? Anyway, Del Potro played some great shots right until the end, he had a lot of heart, however Murray outclassed him, he played far more intelligent and strategic shots and wore Del Potro down, expending his energy that effectively was destruction; mentally, physically and it cost Del Potro the match.
