If you know anything about Warhol's art or aesthetic besides the Campbell's soup cans, you'd know that he didn't "sell out." He began in advertising... THIS was his aesthetic. And he certainly didn't "need the money" at this point in his career.

Brilliant man! Together with Cindy Sherman he's one of few people who successfully used subversion to question and make use of the massmedia and consumer culture. THis commercial is highly ironic, but Warhol's use of the media became so cryptic after a while so that most people didn't understand what he was doing.

@TheBilly It is a kotobasobi (playing with word). The sound JIN of "Imagine" is transcripted by the kanji 人 (person)、whose reading can be also Jin. And IMA, means also "now", conveying in this way the meanings of "Imagine", and "modern person"," person of now". The Japanese wrting systems (hiragana, katakana and kanji) allow a lot of this kind of wordplay. Hope I answered to your question.

Andy looked like an otherworldly , hottie, geek... cute.......He was brilliant with state of the art equipment ie,TDK.. Japan was using Andy to sell.:.Because he was hip , kool, different. He died around the time I was born, so of course, I think he is interesting.. Japonise TDK WAS very evolutionary then. Andy changed things in his mind and gave it to us.

@elestivine - Andy Warhol did not so much create artwork he knew was going to sell (in fact, much/most of 'his' artwork was not even made by him), as he created a 'buzz' around himself. He created at least a couple personals; and even sent someone else to stand-in for him to fulfill a speaking engagement. I consider him the first 'performance artist'. His life, more than any object, was his art. No so unlike the rest of us. If he had any genius, this must be it.
@elestivine
@elestivine 15 жыл бұрын
He was a "business artist." He created a name for himself and perpetuated his career doing artwork that he knew was going to sell. He wasn't this character like Rothko that snubbed his nose at getting paid... Warhol set out to get paid. Not that there's anything in the world wrong with that!

He said Pink, as you know if one thinks about it. The word pink is not blah, it is a mixture of red and blue . Some one would have to of known who ever did this. Knew that they had created a knew color, PINK. So, some one invents the tape evolution

He says 群青色, dark blue (there is no brown on the sreen, for one, and I honestly can only see 軍所色 as a typing error), then I'm fairly sure he means to say 綺麗 (beautiful). イマ人 is a pun on イマ (now) 人 (person/people), i.e. modern people, and イマジン (imagine), meaning the tape stimulates the imaination and modern people.

TDK makes good optical storage. Had a roll of 50 with no coaster disks. Had that nice new-media smell to it (almost like metallic maple syrup). The only disks that failed were ones i screwed up myself (lol, taking disk out while reading/burning) If you find a roll of TDK dvds for 15 bucks and need storage space, buy em! :)

the most of you are false: he says: 赤(red), 緑(green), 青(blue), 軍所色("all-colour-mix" (brown one)), 切れいい (beautiful, wonderful). And then the speaker doesn't say something like Andy Warhol could learn Japanese or so, he just says: he (イマ人 (Andy Warhol)) is stimulated by this colours (刺激する means to stimulate = to make exited). So... it's カラHi-Fi, "kara" is written in Katakana so of course it doesen't mean to buy it means color, and then he just says TDK videotape.

I'm not saying we should deny the credits, I'm saying we shouldn't act like they were and still are the only people who could ever have done that. I'm not saying the important characters in history aren't important, i'm saying if they never existed, someone else would have eventually taken that spot, for better of for worse.

People who don't get why he did this commercial really should try and dig deeper into his work! Ever heard of double irony? His work celebrated and at the same time ridiculed commercialism, fame and art. He played with the conventional ways of approaching art, movies, music etc. etc. etc. You don't have to like his work, that's not the point, but we owe much of our open cultural scene to Warhol.

I don't care who he influnced. Those names you just listed aren't even of intrest to me so you fail to prove your point to me. All you explained is that he was more money orianted then involved in creating intresting art. It seems your more impressed by the way he marketed himself then paying attention to his art. Yes he detached himself from his art. He had the "factory" and said he'd like to take the emotion out of art. What a genius.
