The Association was good for a dozen plays a day on AM pop radio back in the day. Cherish, Along Comes Mary, Windy, and Never My Love ... I was about ten or twelve. I remember my mother singing along to the radio, driving our station wagon. My God. Were things ever really that innocent?

I think I can speak for all of us "old guys" when I say I can't thank you enough for taking the opportunity to even attempt to experience the music that we grew up with and having the courage to listen to the not so well known groups as well as the popular ones. As you well know by now that some of the most beautiful songs came from the lesser known groups. By doing this also helps keep all that great music alive hopefully for many decades to come. Again, thank you A & A.

*This* is why we've been suggesting The Association in every relevant suggestions thread and upvoting them in polls! (And that's probably why Andy recognized the band's name.) Their "greatest hits" album was so omnipresent I think every home in the 70s had a copy, whether the owners bought it or it just magically appeared there. Their massive vocal harmonies blew people away. Next: Along Comes Mary (upbeat/fast), Cherish (slow ballad like this), and Windy (upbeat/fast).

The Association's weakness as far as reputation was that they never made any really strong albums. They were an LA singles band, an AM radio band. A very good one. Nothing wrong with that at all - but they missed out on the "underground" FM radio culture and sort of got pigeon-holed and dismissed by the "hip" hierarchy who were focused on Cream and Jimi Hendrix and the San Francisco bands. They really had some fine songs on the radio for a few years, and then sort of fizzled out. I liked them, though.

Never My Love, Cherish, and Windy are three of the all-time best selling songs of all time. They were hugely popular....and even someone like me, who grew up in the classic rock era, loved them.

A solid talented pop group. My favorite cut among their many great songs is Requiem for the Masses. A bit of a pun. So top notch! Well loved!

This transports me back to a Jr High - after school dance. A darkened gymnasium and awkward teenagers hoping that their crush will ask them to dance.

Well done! Some of your best commentary in quite a while. As you see below, they have a decent catalogue of songs, all stand outs for their harmonies.

In the late 60's we cruised in a '65' maroon mustang with an eight track player and at the end of the night pull off in a dark quiet place and just listen to Association or Beach Boys to end the night.

Another fine Wrecking Crew project. Addrisi Brothers Dick and Don wrote this incredible love song....so AM radio friendly. According to BMI Broadcast Music Inc (1999).. This was the second most played tune on radio and TV in the 20th century.

The Addrisi Brothers had a really good hit single that they recorded themselves under their own name in 1972, "We've Got to Get It On Again".

Gorgeous song. What one of my favourites from the 1960s. One of the best arranged pop songs in 60s pop. "Windy", "Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish" are other great songs from them.

Having watched you guys for a long time and thinking about it in terms of musicians talking to each other, Along Comes Mary. It was so revolutionary, and as a total banger it still stands up today.

Great vocals.........Cherish will blow you away with the descending harmonies. Also Requiem For the Masses, is a worthy listen. Terry Kirkman was the main song writer.

Nice reaction :) Grew up during the '60's and haven't heard this song in years. Brings back some great memories, thank you. I'm a new subscriber so I don't know how much you cover current bands but there's a up and coming power trio called The Warning that is bringing rock back to the world. I urge you to check out the song 'Evolve' that they played live at the MTV VMA's last year. Rumor has it that MTV is still looking for it's roof

Jim Yester, guitar, piano & vocals for the Association, has a younger brother, Jerry. Jerry, was a member of the the band: The Lovin’ Spoonful. Jerry Yester, vocals, guitar, banjo & keyboards. Two siblings that were members of two different, yet influential pop/rock bands of the mid-late sixties early ‘70s.

This was a *great* pop group of the 60s with several big hits. I highly recommend "Along Came Mary" which has a *much* different feel than this song, except still with the great vocals and harmony.

I just watched your reaction two years ago to Superstar by the Carpenters, and noticed Andy's hair was long and Alex's hair was short. Now Andy's hair is short and Alex's hair is long. Or vice versa. I can't tell you two apart.

Beautiful song, and a popular wedding song. I once listened to the original by the Addrisi Brothers, who wrote it, it's practically unrecognizable. Kudos to the Association's arranger.

The Association created some of their own stuff - they were mostly a vocal group but could also play a bit. Their albums would have some original material, a cover here and there, but also a lot of their huge hits were given to them by studio contracted songwriters like the Jimmy Webbs of the world, etc. They had a Filipino lead singer as part of the vocal ensemble which was unusual for the time. They were the epitome of Sunshine Pop - 1965-68 period and probably the most successful. The most artful and original of these types of groups that never got their due was a group called The Free Design. Arguably the best talent and originality wise and most underrated of this 60s genre. Kites are Fun would be worthy of an album Patreon.
