Abba have estimated sales of over 400 millions (not to menrion the huge amount of weeklly streaming they get each week by new Gens streamers aged 16-35 that's phenomenal for 'a sort of non-active band') as got officially anounced for once more, a couple of days ago also by BPI in the UK.BPI also gave them a special award for this phenomenal occassion.Abba is second best selling band only topped by The Beatles.

100%. I think the disco backlash was a misfire. It made all dance music electronic, which I do enjoy a lot of, but I also love the amazing and very human playing on songs like this, the Bee Gees disco hits, and Chic's "Good Times". Nile Rodgers has now played that Strat on billions of dollars worth of hit songs.

They were pop royalty in the 70’s. Hit after hit, they ruled the pop airwaves. But, if you were a teenage male, you could not be caught dead listening to them. Just not cool. ABBA music is its own genre, a mix of European pop/rock, spanish flamenco guitar music, Greek folk songs and yes a strong infusion of clsssic music and chords. Voila, ABBA. So good that they have done one Broadway play and 2 joyous movies with a virtual all star line up of actors. All wanted to get their shot at ABBA songs.Why. Because they are GOATS. I've always been proud to be from where I'm from, but after some deep thought, it makes no logical sense. Pride in something you had nothing to do with just seems so ridiculous now. I'm not complaining or being negative here at all. It applies to me as well, of course. I just find it to be a strange and interesting concept. It's still there, inside me. When my favorite team wins, when someone I know or a relative achieves something. Tribalism, I suppose. Which would tie it to survival instinct, I believe. Anyway, something to think about. I had a couple of ABBA albums when I was a kid. Great band!

Abba have loads of pop classics but, imho, their very best work comes towards the end of their catalogue. Give a listen to 'The Winner Takes It All', 'The Visitors' and, my personal favourite, 'The Day Before You Came'. All brilliant tunes, beautifully produced and heavily laced with that perfect Swedish melancholy! :) Earlier tracks that are well worth a listen include 'SOS' and 'Knowing Me, Knowing You'. :)

This song was such a monster newbie sound when it came out in '76. I think it gave birth to a disco baby right there on the dance floor.

ABBA and Donna Summer were my favorite groups growing up in the 1970s. "Dancing Queen" is truly a timeless classic and works nearly as well today as it did in the mid-seventies. ABBA created catchy pop-disco songs that were melodic, inspired, gorgeous melodies and the ladies voices sound pristine. They had a number of hits in the '70s mostly, and some in the '80s. They were hugely popular if I recall, but it kind of snuck up on us over the years how solid their music was that they had such staying power even decades later.

in 1978 i wore a tee shirt that said "death before disco". 45 years later i'm still not a disco fan,but i can appreciate this song from a nostalgic viewpoint. it conjures up fond memories of high school, and some of my best summers ever. so i guess from that perspective disco has a place in my life.

I just want to let you guys know that I wait on the days you're dropping these reactions to listen in the car on the way home from work. You literally took me out of my seat and I was floating while listening to you experience this definitive ABBA song. There aren't too many songs that feel like the first time each time you listen, but this is surely one of them. My heart still swells, every time. Here's to being 17 forever. 💃❤

ABBA, the guilty pleasure of rockers everywhere, the group they turn up when no one else is around. My mom and older sister listened to them, which meant I had to listen to them as well. You can put the hate on them all you want, but their songs were well written and well performed, with silky vocals by singers who didn't need autotune.

Maybe one day Cash Jordan will be Sweden's best product. Course he was born in New York but he is the funniest non -comedian ever on KZbin. Back to Abba, they're ok. Ikea, not bad idea. Ingemar Johansson, aannh! Floyd Patterson took care of him. Ingrid Bergman, gorgeous!! "Here's looking at you, kid!" I don't have a SAAB story, sorry!

Great reaction, gentlemen! You really have my respect for your ability to recognize quality, regardless of genre. When I was in my teens, when they first broke, I wouldn't have been caught dead even knowing who they were. That's how uncool they were, to young guys who were into rock. I'm still listening to their songs, though, thanks to my Gen-Z kids and their friends. Lyrics, harmonies, arrangements, production values are all S-tier. The lyrics are even more astonishing when you realize they're two mom and pop Swedish couples for whom English was a second language. About half-a-dozen of their songs reach this level of perfection. This was their only #1 hit over here in America. They were sensational in Europe.

ABBA were my first concert ever!! I was nearly 15 and they were my favourite band (next to Queen) and I was lucky enough to get to meet them and even kiss Anna on the cheek!! I still have the signed album and tour program. Dancing Queen naturally was a highlight of the show! ABBA were MASSIVE in Australia at the time. Beatlemania massive. The Sydney Morning Herald headline the day they landed in Australia for the tour was simply "THEYRE HERE" because everyone knew who they were. They had 3 songs in the top 10 at that time. There were ABBA records, tshirts, socks, tea towels, pillowcases, dolls, bubblegum cards etc etc. Transfers in the big daily newspapers. Everyone wanted in on the action. Fernando had been number 1 for 14 weeks at a time when that was a BIG deal. At the time they estimated 1 in 4 Australian households had a copy of The Best Of ABBA and ARRIVAL (which had Dancing Queen and Fernando). 46 years later they are as big as ever - except the US has finally caught on :) So glad you loved the immaculate songcraft of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus and the delicious vocals of Agnetha Faltskog and Anna-Frid Lyngstad. Theres lots more where that came from. Try Knowing Me, Knowing You or SOS or Winner Takes It All for a start. Have fun guys! :)

Honestly, this is my favorite analysis of my favorite song. You guys articulated so much of what I think about this song. Coincidentally, I happened to be a "college student" myself in 1977 (it's a 1976 song but it was a hit in the US in '77) when I first heard it. I agree that it's so perfect in every respect that it does seem hard to imagine it was actually produced by humans. I can't think of any higher compliment to a song than that.
