Deacon not only wrote the song, played the electric piano on the recording, and in concert, stepping away from his usual home behind the bass. In addition to their instrumental chops, every member of the band has written at least two top-ten hits. They were just dripping with talent.

written by Bass player John Deacon this is a different love song than whats usually written. your partner/wife or husband has to be your best friend. Pure classic Queen, its simple and its a hit first time you hear it and IT never gets old. S tier but given a respectable A+ by the boys. Queen is one of the all time greats for Freddy Mercury whose voice is top 5 all time in my opinion. then the harmonies of the group itself and then the Unique solos & the style of Brian May. there will never be another Queen.

Boys, actually this was written by bassist John Deacon (I believe his first on a Queen album) about his newlywed wife. Queen had gotten a new Rhodes keyboard that Freddie didn't like and didn't want to use it on a Queen album (he always wanted to use actual piano). John did want to, so he took it home to learn how to play it and this was the song he wrote while teaching himself how to play it. There is a phenomenally beautiful ballad that Freddie did write about the girl that Andy was referring to called "Love of My Life" that you should check out.

Freddie rejected the electric piano outright when it was added to the equipment. Not quite. Freddie disliked the electric piano which had just been added to their studio equipment- so John took it home to teach himself how to play. He wrote this song *on* the electric piano while teaching himself. *Then* he brought back the electric piano AND this song. John wanted it to be recorded as he wrote it (on the electric piano) and Freddie refused to use it … so John played it himself for the recording, as well as playing his wonderful bass line.

“You’re My Best Friend” was written by the band’s bass player, John Deacon, who has also written their mega-hit “Another One Bites the Dust”. Deacon composed this love song for his new wife, Veronica Tetzlaff, whom he married in January 1975, shortly before the album was recorded. Initially featured on A Night at the Opera in November 1975, it was later released as a single, backed with “‘39”. Although it was squeezed between two other hits, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love”, it nonetheless found a respectable place in Queen’s fans' ears and hearts, peaking at #7 on the UK Singles Charts.

@@TallyDrake but it was just Andy, 4 years ago. There's no reason they can't do it again, unless Alex has already heard it. Andy's facial reactions to Freddie's devastatingly viscous lyrics if priceless.

Great job guys! My favorite song you have reacted to since Load Out/Stay. Nothing compares to these classic rock songs. Thanks! Suggestion of the day: I Need A Lover - John Cougar (at the time) Mellencamp. Unless his songs get blocked, not really sure why you have not hit him up yet.

Written by bass player John Deacon for his wife. He also plays the keyboards on this song.

I have literally heard this song hundreds of times but not in probably 40 years as most stations dont play Queen much anymore. The Seventies and Eighties were a great time to be alive.

In the early seventies I was waiting to hear a band that could be a worthy successor to the Beatles. I found that band in Queen.

Absolutely astonished you haven’t heard this and sad you’ve lived 20 some years without this in your life. Glad you have it now! PLEASE from this album hit Death on Two Legs! Not only the best Queen song ever but maybe one of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs you’ll ever hear in your life. And it’s mixed so pure - great production.

I like the drum fill that rolls from floor tom backwards to snare which is opposite of the norm.

Born in the late 60s, I grew up watching the Partridge Family show, about a family singing group, which was extremely popular. I always thought this was a Partridge Family song, until way into adulthood, lol! It totally captures their vibe. I googled it just to know I wasn't alone in this, and others thought the same thing! Anyway, great, great song written by the bassist, John Deacon, for his wife, and definitely not sung by David Cassidy 🤣

I always loved the fact that John Deacon wrote this about his relationship with his wife. I lost my wife of nearly 42 years two years ago. She was truly, absolutely my very best friend. Whenever we heard this together I would sing along horribly but sincerely because the lyrics rang true for me. Miss you baby! No way to go wrong with any Queen song.

Freddy wrote his best song for a girl who ended up breaking his heart. It's called Love of My Life. You should hear it by Marc Martel. Then by Queen. Your jaw may hit the floor.

There are few songs that take me back to a time and place. This is one. As a young person, less than 10, and this song was on the radio a lot. Station wagon, 1970s, tornado warning. Trying to get home.
