I thought it was going to be "my dog is stubborn", LOL! You are right, it is super common for pet folks to say "Too much energy". It's funny 'cause at times I have a client with a nice drivey dog and they are pulling their hair out. Meanwhile I am like "WOW What a cool dog you have!" The looks I get are pretty funny!
@WollongongSkyWatch2 жыл бұрын
I know that look! I had a friend with a fantastic little sheltie. I could get her to do anything in return for enthusiasm and a mane scratch. Too bad the owner was intent on 'getting all her energy out' with boring ball throw repetition to keep her a lap dog.

😅😂 I am SO guilty of this. But I literally revolve my day around my 1yr old doberman for 2 x 1hr long exercise/training sessions plus more short bursts. I do it because I'm committed and I love my dog but puppyhood was absolutely draining!! ha ha.

Another brilliant video, agree that on leash is the way!! I use a flexi attached to my belt to work my young mali around high distractions and it stops him learning that he CAN blow me off - until he is CHOOSING to stay EVERY. SINGLE. TIME and has been for months, he’s not going off leash around dogs as one time in ten he’s too interested and if he were to self reward just ONCE, it’ll set me back and he’ll be unfairly corrected - he’s telling me something with that one time in ten - HE AIN’T READY YET! We have JUST as good a session on a flexi as we play loads and I’ve taught him a ‘steady’ command so that he doesn’t hit the end on a woodland path where I’m letting him sniff and explore the forest floor, so even when he’s ‘being a dog’ he’s still ‘working’ and getting mentally stimulated by that as well as feeling he can roam in front of me. 95% of my time with him is spent with him engaged with me and working his obedience, doing unpredictable training sessions and using the basics with play play play! No need for him to be off leash. He’s knackered after ten minutes’ working and play!

Haha. I would be very worried if a puppy didn't have a lot of energy! My problem is I am 78 with bad hips and a torn rotator cuff. I know better than to try to train another puppy for myself asI am the one without enough energy. But I still help neighbors train their dogs:)

About why People do offleash, only partly true. We do our program offleash in igp. But that is in the advance training in igp, Many get in trouble and start using the e-callor witch is forbidden here in scandinavien. But they still do, but partly as communikation with the dog in the forward send.

Yea my female GSD is nervous of people, I always tell people to ignore my dog, I get alot of disgusting looks and the typical comment here in Germany is "why don't you train your dog, all dogs are supposed to be friendly" but when she sees that nothing will happen then she sniffs the ground and does dog things not nervous anymore.

The only time I say that my heeler has a lot of energy is when people see us working out at the park and say, "I want a dog just like that" because I don't want people to think he is an easy dog just because they see him doing all the wonderful things that I learned from your channel.
@IGotPaks2 жыл бұрын
I don't use that phrase as well. I hate it when people tell me that I need to exercise my dog and then train her. I notice that my dog has more drive when I train before we go on a walks or run. It's easier to train her without treats when she's excited to see me after I get off work.

Thank you Andy you always motivate me and make me look at my dog from a different perspective. I use to also use this phrase don't know why it's so common amongst society. The terms I hate the most are stuff like “Maligator” for the same reason “It’s just a dog”. A Malinois is nothing like an Alligator. What are Alligators like? They place in the top 3 strongest jaw strength for land animals, they sleep for most of the day, they’re extremely stubborn animals, and they’re reptiles. What are Malinois like? They hold one of the lowest bite strengths of large sized dogs, they need about 5-7 hours of sleep, they typically need about 2+ hours of activity a day, they’re one of highest drive and most eager to please dogs, they’re very trainable, and they’re mammals.
@thunderandstorm49572 жыл бұрын
Lowest bite strength? Where does that come from? Lol I have 100lbs mostly muscle 1 year old pup . I don't think you would enjoy wearing a suit around him most of the club decoys dreads him vs any other. The bite strength is the dog size and will to destroy your arm; not all malinois are 30 kilograms check-out knpv , nvbk mals not the flying squirrels popular on youtube.
@naturallycurlyhair44132 жыл бұрын
@@thunderandstorm4957 You’re very mistaken if you legitimately believe a Malinois puppy the size of a fully grown fci Cane Corso is actually a purebred. An FCI Malinois 40-80 lbs should have a bite strength around 195 psi. It’s probably of KNPV bloodlines and comes from one of the huge 95-120 lbs studs like Tommy, Wibo, Rico Vergossen, Big Roy, etc.
@naturallycurlyhair44132 жыл бұрын
@@thunderandstorm4957 Also I never said “lowest bite strength” I said ONE of the lowest bite strengths of LARGE sized dogs. Then you show up talking about your “Malinois” that’s the size of a Great Dane. I was saying in comparison to Rottweilers, Cane Corsi, Dobermanns, GSDs, Boxers, Dogo Argentinos, American Bandogges, Tosa Inu, Akita Inu, Himalayan Sheepdogs, Dutch Shepherds, XL American Bullies, etc. an FCI Malinois with its little almond shaped head is a little lacking in potential.

I've had tons of dogs in my lifetime (several different breeds) and not all dogs are the same in the energy department - some dogs clearly are more energetic. (And I've trained all my dogs and have been commended by lots of people on how well my dogs are trained so it's not coming from an overwhelmed beginner). I agree about the part if they want to 'get it out' etc it's probably the wrong dog for them, but that doesn't mean that the dog doesn't have a high energy level.

I know mine do all my dog receive most of my communication through energy I can look at my dog with body language and energy to give him my commands but I have a new puppy I'm excited to try your training techniques. I have been watching a lot of your videos and I like the results. This new puppy I got he's a mutt of like four different hounds but he's super smart only about 6 months old and has some basics down already Sit Stay downstay and a couple fun ones like Shake and sit pretty for the kids but he picked up on all that stuff in small 15 minute sessions but reinforced over weeks. I have had smart dogs before but he seems different and I don't want to waste his intelligence
