Loved the live stream! It really makes you clarify your own thinking on what you actually have (in my case a deterrent dog) and what you really want from your dog and expect out of it in different situations, especially considering my own abilities and/or limitations to take care of a threat. In most scenarios I can imagine, it would be better for my dog to alert and be a deterrent. Then I can make the final decision on how to take care of the threat. It buys me some time at the very least.

Gee, I wish was on this live. My younger brother got bit in his stomach by a dog that was a corrections dog who was taken home as a home dog. That was the dumbest, most irresponsible thing that happened. The injury my brother suffered was horrific. The dog reacted to a strange kid walking down the street. It was put down , my brother received 30 stitches and a lot of pain.

Love this live chat. I think you are exactly right. Most people are fairly diluted in what they think their dogs will do. The one organization run by a navy seal, who trains dogs to protect military personal family members while they are deployed, called knuckledragers seems like it could be the real deal in terms of actual protection dogs that can be lived with. But it is perhaps a diamond in the rough .

Would you compare people buying such a high energy dog to buying and flying a fighter jet without having a pilot license? I personally feel like one dog is not enough or just letting the dog do all the work without a human assisting like a battle team if you want real protection but as others have pointed out as well, there is such high liability and most people don’t know the early warning signs or in a position to adress it like you mentioned people getting killed by their own dog 🤦🏽‍♂️

I've known a couple police dogs that were killed in a fight with the bad guy. Police dogs aren't usually trained that well. You've seen them! A well trained family/protection dog will be your first warning. Eyes, nose, and ears. Not just a deterrent. If trained properly, he/she will be the one that doesn't bail on you, during an attack. In the home invasion, he/she will be the one that makes first contact. Sure! That dog will take the brunt of the attack, and will probably lose the fight. But this dog will give you more time to react. He/she MIGHT give you enough time to get your gun ready, or whatever you gotta do. Out in public, your well trained protection dog might not be any more than a can of mace. Giving a handler time to react. But! The typical criminal that's doing break INS and stuff, don't know dogs. So it would depend on how you train your dog and it would depend on the bad guy. I've known dogs that have engaged in the fight. Mal/Shep mix ripped a man's bicep off. That is verifiable, in MD. Back in the 70's, I had a Sheppard collie that did jump in the street fight and helped me get the win easily. We're used to catching big bad dogs. It's easier for us to punk the dog out. Your dog will help, but there's a good chance for your dog to get hurt or killed. Now I hear a lot about police dogs on this video! Police dogs are cool! But they aren't that great. Police dog trainers, aren't really trainers! Here's a secret about the police dogs, for the police dog fans! Years ago, we would sell dogs that wouldn't work for schutzhund to the police departments as "green police dogs"! That because they didn't have the right drive to compete, but would be started in tracking, protection, and agility. It's all obedience! Usually the police dog has to stay in the home kennel. It can be done! It's not easy!

I would not have understood what you meant a year ago but so true. Dogs learn in pictures and a lot of modern protection training is so specific and seemingly unrealistic scenarios. The dogs that score A+ in these practice scenarios are not suitable for pet owners like myself and my community members. Folks should go rescue a pit bull mix and take time to train it to be able to listen to you in and out of being in a state of arousal. If you’re still concerned about your safety in your neighborhood, move.

I have a white German Shepherd I raised from a puppy during the pandemic. At our local dog park, I have to laugh, because first thing he (Luke) does is “check the perimeter”! He “reads” unstable energy, both human and dog, and will use his body as a buffer. I took a bad fall into a landscape bed outside my front door. Luke became the Guardian until I could call for help. Yes, you might say we’re joined at the hip, but I’m glad I picked him!

For me to train your dog.. you need to be with me 5 days a week and show you are into not just having a dog for protection but also highly motivated by the sport. If the person is active, has great skills, and starts training with me since puppyhood... multiple days a week...for 2 years or so... I know that person will be fully invested...

This is what you’re saying… Are protection dogs real? No! Very conflicting, Andy! I agree with most of what you’re saying about there’s so many fake protection dogs being sold and a lot of them won’t work like you think if you don’t know what you’re doing. But I’d just keep it at that! I wouldn’t dare to say there’s no such thing as a protection dog you can buy. You’re saying it’s not real but in the same video you’re saying “they are out there” . You’re very well entitled to your opinion and you know a lot, I watch your videos! You have some good points but you’re speaking for every protection dog and saying that it’s not a real protection dog if you buy it. Don’t say there’s no such thing as protection dogs that you can buy! That’s just not true! You can test a bunch of these dogs and I bet, they would tear you up! No matter what type of trickery you try. You’re a great trainer but you don’t know what every dog is gonna do if your not the trainer! You don’t know any of them personally so how can you say that a trainer didn’t train a dog to attack on command when in a real situation. If you give your opinion, cool! If you’re gonna say, there’s no such thing as a protection dog you can buy! If that’s the case, I need to know what the powerball numbers are tomorrow! Could really use psychic abilities! Man… I hope you don’t take it personal but there is such thing as protection dogs and a lot of them will shred you up! I’m a gun guy too but I wouldn’t be telling people that it’s better than a dog because if you think a dog is likely to fail in a real world situation, guess what…. Most people are not trained, nor is it natural for a person to pull the trigger on another human. I bet most people will miss! I bet most people won’t actually pull the trigger! I bet if you shoot someone who invades your house which I’m not opposed to, you will be in court trying to prove your innocence! They won’t throw a dog in jail! But they will throw you strait to jail until you prove it was in self defense! Man…. I think people should try and get a protection dog, any yappy dog instead of just buying a gun with no dog. I trust my Mals more than I trust most people with a gun!

If a person doesn't have the requisite experience that you speak of, that dog will become a liability and your homeowner's insurance premiums are going to be sky high once you get sued. The dog could be put down for the owner's stupidity which isn't fair to the animal. A properly trained dog without any of this "protection training" will provide protection by virtue of it being a dog. Had jogger Eliza Fletcher been with a medium to large well trained dog, it is more than likely her killer would have moved on to the next woman.

The old saying goes only in America Are there such a thing as protection dogs? Yes I’ve got one. She’s a 2500 year-old breed. From the caucus mountains of Russia Ukraine and Georgia The mighty undisputed king of dogs Or in her case because she’s a female The fearless pathologically protective Guardian of mankind villages livestock for two millennium The Caucasian mountain dog A.k.a. Caucasian Shepherd, a.k.a. Russisn bear dog aks the Ovcharka Yes, it’s taken me 18 months to train her and these are all allegedly incredibly difficult dogs to train they probably are if you’re the wrong person to own one if they sent weakness they will dominate you military CEO in business nowadays alpha and training has been a complete dream come true yes they are but not now she’s outgrown that and she’s still a puppy this amazing Family protector Has had 2000 years of protecting humans in her DNA I have taken her into numerous high-pressure situation for Her to experience a great environment is the train it’s moving lots of different people doors opening and sometimes be crowded and don’t forget when she’s out with me. She is on duty taking her on a train and has been a Positive experience for her I’ve taken her into business meetings I’ve taken her into bars we sit outside and eat i’ve taken her with me considering she is my personal protection dog now they go through a stage when they are around the one year to the 16 months where they are wanting to please you so much they will growl and go for and snarl and jump up and everything that walks towards you However, slowly she Starts to understand what real fret is and allows you to make the judgement call don’t get me wrong if someone came at me at speed or into space without her knowing them they’re gonna have a very bad day However, children Vulnerable adults, most females She sees no threat in fact on the train old boys were bullying an autistic boy and my dog went and walked and sat between the older boys and the autistic boy. The older boys got off. She was On a long lead. Another time some drunk guy was on the train being abusive to females On the late train, my dog have her own volition looked at me. I gave her the signal. She walked forward put herself between the drunk and the females along the females to walk back. She didn’t move until the drunk got off the train. I didn’t teach her that that’s her instinct. Caucasian Shepherd is renown for putting itself between its owner and the threat and I absolutely assure you they do not back down and They have a unique Veri gutter very intimidating wolf like growl and bark snarl And there bite is billion times worse. Let me tell you something else they have the longest teeth of any dog in the world 2 inch Long fangs And the bite which is stronger than a tiger In the UK and Europe and America were very little is known about the breed so-called expert say the bite is around 550 to 650 psi However, the Russian military dog training unit in the western district who are the experts on this breed given they the successor To the World renowned Red star kennel State that The bike forces between 750 and 850 psi and you can get it to the top end of the bike force by feeding the dog bones large bones on a weekly or daily basis which strengthen the jaws And bring them to bite force I’ve heard her bite through a cows thigh bone that’s a big bone . The red star kennel re-engineered in the nineteen fifties Where they took the best mountain dog in the world who would fight and kill wolves And who will fight to the death with bears and in a pack destroy the bear And gave the dog a military purpose that being an anti-personal dog which is a big statement to make the dog was there used to protect the Berlin wall These dogs have fear of human beings whatsoever. They are also not food orientated. You can try feeding her All you want, you’ll just lose your arm. They are pathologically devoted to protecting their owners and they take this job deadly seriously. One last thing on the breed GSD Belgian Malinos Swiss Shepherd Dutch Shepherd Rottweiler cane Corso even Pitbulls Have a bike pattern to the wrist low arm Calve and lower leg. And they will bite and hold Given the dog is actually domesticated and does not actually want to kill the human The Caucasian Shepherd totally differently it will launch its massive hundred kilo bodyweight Target using their massive head as a flying head butt ( And the top of their head are thick) On the way to the ground, they bite and rip out the eye, the nose, the jaw, the mouth, the throat and finish by disembowling their target With the massive claw . That happens in roughly 10 seconds and it’s over and they come back to you for a cuddle. There’s nothing malicious in these animals. It’s just business. Again, I didn’t have to teach her the bite pattern It’s in her DNA they’ve been doing this for 2000 years Fighting And eliminating wolves and taking out bears so the challenge with the Caucasian is you have to respect that this is a deadly weapon and it’s not suitable for everybody. You have to be physically strong. You have to be Apex Alpha less they will vulnerability and they Will just step up to try and keep you safe because I don’t think you’re up to it. She looks at me for direction all of the time I’ve given her a speak ( bark ) Command, not that she needs it Caucasians love to bark And alert command, not that she needs it the minute she text what she thinks is threat she’s on alert and an attack command And of course, a stop I’ve taught of these in Russian I’m English, but I speak some Russian and the dog need to have commands in a language and intruder wouldn’t understand This is a massive commitment food she eats a lot. She’s 100 kg 6 foot long you know 3 foot high 3 foot wide weaponised animal who lives to protect and takes it so seriously really really really seriously you’ve never seen anything like it. Training is fun if you’re strong the dogs don’t need that much exercise couple of hours a day less as they get older but lots of mental stimulation, they need to feel part of the family, They must have their own space to go and eat and when they are eating do not disturb I do not advocate this nonsense put your hand in a dog bowl and move it that might work with a Labrador. It isn’t working with a Caucasian Shepherd that’s called instinct they need space to sleep whether they’re not woken up because of course at night time we sleep she’s wide-awake, she has a sleep from around 6 am to 9 am She has a deep sleep. The biggest thing is mental stimulation and training. You have to get a grip on her instincts which if she detected real threat she would override my command and take the threat out . Also, they have a double layered coat and triple lay around the neck which stops wolf bites getting into the throat and it means they are Impervious to pain They weigh as much as you there as Long as most humans are tall they are strong if not stronger than you they are not afraid of you not remotely afraid of you all they care about is protecting their principal so this is commitment but I’m telling you now this is the Apex protection dog. it’s why Putin has one. It’s why most of the leaders in the former Soviet union have them that’s why the Russian oligarchs Have them they are absolute protection I’ve seen a video of her father Putin, which is a great name for a Caucasian Shepherd taking out four Romany gypsies Who is stupid enough to try to burgle the breeders kennels with Putin’s puppies inside this was never ending well for the gypsies Putin was chained. You have to chain this dog. If you’re leaving them outside you have to leave someone at least the notion of escape the breeder came back. Gypsies were very bad on the ground all around Putin, he just sat there having a sleep dealt with that’s what you’re dealing with a dog that can take out four people So yes, protection dogs exist and have done for thousands of years just not in America. Belgian Malo will not fighter Wolf for a bear it will run the other way Caucasian Shepherd puppies go into the attack with the pack against wolves no dog will lay it down like this thing will finally you must remember a Caucasian Shepherd isn’t fighting for life. It knows it can win it fighting to protect mine and yours, and it’s super pleased about doing that. Always happy to give people interested in this remarkable breed the real insight into these dogs don’t chain them up outside and leave them they go bonkers sure when they’re eating outside put them on the chain don’t leave them out there on the chain they need lots of lots and lots of interaction with the family Happiness when they’re with you they love cuddling they love to cuddle and every morning when I come down to see her, I get a she jumps up on her hind legs put a front legs over my shoulders looks me in the eye read my emotions and gives me the most beautiful cuddle or whatever cuddle I need and then she gets on with her day and I love every evening cooking fresh for her as she lays there watching me cook Myself my wife and my son eat she eats outside they’re not cheap. They’re not easy to train but if you have the right nature and I would know if you had the right nature they’re the best dogs on the planets. Hope this helps.

I'm currently trying to raise my doberman as a pet/PPD. He definitely is an effective deterrent and I attribute the drop in car break-ins in the neighborhood to his presence (barks). We started with a well bred puppy and have been regularly training with professionals who have both high caliber sport (PSA) and working (military) backgrounds. These trainers have PPDs for sale but less than 50k. They raise them and train them partly to maintain their own skills and bring up new trainers. One dog was returned because it is a good dog but the client couldn't get comfortable with the dog despite lots of in-home and at-facility lessons. Another dog they raised and sold is VERY strong and has a great handler (they come in occasionally to keep the dog sharp). Another PPD/handler (hobbiest) that trains there bought from a well known training facility - that dog is very civil. My dog is definitely more pet than PPD, but PPDs are real. Probably the better question is: is the protection trainer real?

@@AndyKrueger PPDs: no. Working k9s: yes. I think everyone that genuinely needs a PPD sincerely hopes that the real threat that drove them to getting a dog doesn't actually manifest. A police officer there told me his partner that he was retiring only had 4 live bites. He was saying it has to essentially be a war-like situation before they send a dog. A prison k9 had zero live bites... But you gotta train just in case. They do a lot of scenario training: hidden sleeve, surprise attacks on handler, sending the dogs into crazy situations like crawl spaces with heavy metal music blaring... They work up to what would seem like overwhelming situations. It's fun to see especially when me and my dog are just there working on grips and entries. The dogs they raise and train are extremely confident. I think very few people need that much dog. They have washouts... They sell them as pet dogs to good people. They definitely lose money on trying to bring up working dogs. Fortunately they have a ton of board and train pets to cushion that blow.

@@jewif My point has nothing to do with law enforcement/ military k9s. I stated that ppd that civilians buy are either fake or seriously dangerous, neither of which are good. I said that these dogs should be called deterrent dogs bc they will not protect, they will simply deter. People selling them as ‘protection’ dogs are either lying or ignorant. Being in the working k9 business for 13 years, I’m aware how law enforcement selects, trains and uses their dogs. This was not relevant to my point though.

I don't understand the situation/inside joke with Ivan that sometimes comes up in this chat. I've asked about it but somehow don't know what I don't know. Honestly curious at what I'm missing

@@AndyKrueger okay thanks. Someone asked you about his protection dogs and I guess your reaction wasn't an answer I understood. I agree with your points on protection dogs in general, respect your accomplishments and willingness to share here. Understand please, it's not the first time I've been confused by a reaction when his name came up in your chat. I'm genuinely trying to learn. Thanks again
