It looks like a nice kit. The 3D-printed parts look good. I have the new Very Fire 1/350 “Deluxe” version kit of the late Yamato and it is very, very good (even the float planes have cockpit canopy glass frames in PE, but that might not be for everyone). Andy has this kit in his shop as well, but it is more expensive than the Border kit will be. I cannot tell if the Border kit is better or worse than the Very Fire kit without having them side-by-side. I might get the Border kit, too, for comparison, just because I have a complete lack mental stability and judgement 🙃. One thing I do recommend as being useful, if you can find it, is the new Model Art “Super Illustration” book on the Yamato. They have reprinted and up-dated the information to reflect the latest research on the Yamato. Best of all, it now has English translations throughout, explaining the details in the excellent drawings. The Anatomy of a Ship series book (latest edition, if possible) on the Yamato and Musashi is also very useful.

Ive been wondering that myself. The one thing i can see that the Very Fire kit has that this doesnt, is an actual wooden deck. Thats a big plus.

Border is being panned in China right now due to their inaccuracies and mistakes. Very Fire is the better option at least for now until Joyyard releases theirs some point in the future.
@dongerber9791Ай бұрын
@@jermasus Interesting. I’m curious, what mistakes/inaccuracies are they saying Border Model have made? Or, maybe point me to the place where there is a discussion of the kit. Thanks!
@jermasusАй бұрын
@dongerber9791 Mostly on Baidu Tieba and video sites like Bilibili. You can probably find some pictures and videos if you search for 边境大和. Some examples I can share are: terrible details on the floatplane Zeros, barebones detail on the plane hangar doors, absolutely no details at all on the porthole covers (especially bad when compared to Very Fire), no rivet details on the hull plating, bad placement of the mold joint lines (it spans multiple decks and armor plating, makes sanding less easy), barebones and wrongly protruding underwater valves, poor floatplane deck railing details, odd rivet lines for the smokestack, no anti-slip textures for a few platforms, absolutely no details at all on the canvas bags of the secondary guns.

Nice. I might actually get myself this one, although I already have the Tamiya Yamato. We now have a lot of kits for all kind of battleships in 1/350, most of them in multiple editions (e.g. Iowa-Class, Bismarck-Class, Yamato, King George Vth class, Nelson class etc). Even ships like the BB-67 USS Montana which were never built are now available in multiple kits. I wonder whether some kit crafter will issue a new and up-to-date kit of the RMS Titanic in 1/350. That's a kit I would buy immediately.

Yamato was built more as a symbol of the pride of Japan and not a warship going out and sinking the enemy. It didn't really get into too many battles and until it was sunk it wasn't really damaged much. Japan wanted to have something so enormous that just the sight would frighten the US, but torpedo bombers hit it so hard it broke it in half and sunk to the bottom, where is stands today.

Out of interest, as there are no blue prints left for this ship, or so I believe. How are the manufacturers able to say the parts are exact. What caught my eye was the ships lower hull showing all the water inlets. I just wonder if thats just pure guess work by Border Models. I'm not criticising the kit it looks gorgeous and will probably by one. I'm genuinely interested to know as I thought the Japanese destroyed the blue prints so they didn't fall into the USA's hands. Maybe someone on here will know. Have a great weekend everybody.

@ronkluwe4875Ай бұрын
Great looking kit, but I still have a problem with model companies who sacrifice scale to try and show detail. There are many scale errors in the 1/350 scale as shown on this model (rivets scale up to 8" to 10" size, the gap lines on the airplanes scale up to 3" to 4", the decking gaps would be huge in real scale, the diamond plating would be about 20 times real scale, etc.). This is what I would call a toy level kit (although a very complete and premium kit) rather than a true scale kit. With today's CNC capabilities, I just do not understand why model making companies don't push for more scale detailing in their premium kits. I understand there are production issues with injection molding that limit how small the detailing can be, but with 3d printing and PE, much of this can be overcome.
@jimhantschАй бұрын
Just wait for the "rivet counting" edition to come out. Yamato is very difficult to be exact on due to the plans were destroyed when the war ended. I'm sure that if you looked at any of these kits close enough you'll find a lot of error. These kits a suppose to be visual appealing so they make a nice edition to your model collection and not to be used to reverse engineer them into a working war machine.
@TheMassivemusclesАй бұрын
Good god man, lighten up. Do you enjoy anything in life or do you just piss on everything?
@ronkluwe4875Ай бұрын
@@jimhantsch Jim - not a rivet counter, but there are simple things that could be corrected in the dies to make the ship even more realistic for no added cost. I fully realize that at some point you cannot make items to scale at 1/350 due to the material qualities, but if you are selling a premium kit, put the effort into it. Just my 2 cents.
