I had no idea they used a thermistor. I would think that a really hot or really cold day would prevent this method from working reliability. But I'm sure they know what they are doing.

I found the manual that came with my XS1100. This Manual covers standard and special models through 'til '81. There's information here about the fuel tank sending unit in Chapter 7- Electrical System. Not sure you are interested in the info, but I thought I'd share. Doesn't say what the part is but gives the specs in ohms.

When installing the sensor in the tank do you have it facing up or down?

The sensor doesn’t care and I can’t remember. You fit it so your wiring sits where you need it to.

Andy I know this is a few years on. Was wondering if you have a low fuel light and if you have are you aware what the reading (ohms) is when the light comes on. Cheers.

Answer to question 1, no I didn’t end up using it. Answer to question 2, I don’t actually know, sorry mate. That was pretty useless for you.

I'm curious where does that sender fit into a XS1100 tank?
