thanks mate. i'm dealing with a set of dyna coils on a 1986 GSXR former race bike with Dyna coils, so your video has helped me understand how they were installed and how to test.

Hey Andy, fantastic video. I got my coils mounted, but am second guessing what wire from the loom goes where when attaching to the coil. Any chance you remember or have a diagram?

I also Have measured one Pick-up coil as 1500 ohms but im thinking it is a broken wire? if the pick-up coil is bad, where can I get a new one? 1980 XS1100 special Thank you Dave Kerst in California.

Hey Andy I got a question for you brother, do you know how many ohms the original coils are on that bike? Because I have the same exact coils and I want to put them on my 73 CB750 but they come with 5 ohm coils originally and I'm afraid that it might run to hot or something, do you have any information on that bud?

I too have a basket case 1979 xs1100. all the plugs off the motor have been cut off. just wires hanging. I have a harness but nothing to plug it into. trying to figure out how to hard wire it. I have learned more in the last couple hours watching your videos than I have in a year of online research. when you get to the wiring can you be very detailed. there is nowhere online I have found to get the info. To catch you up. I'm not running stock ignition. I'm using a 3 position universal type ignition. I have accel super coils and the stock ecm. any tips to get her wired and running would be the greatest of help.
@ANDY59 жыл бұрын
+jason braden Hi Jason, thanks for the feedback. It shouldn't be too difficult. Where are you located mate?
@jasonbraden51509 жыл бұрын
+Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions United States Florida, Lakeland. Center of the state. I have most of the wires spliced into the ecm and ignition. but there are a few wires on the ecm plug that have me at a stand still. one says it goes to the starter. it's a little red wire. I don't see how that goes there. I feel as I'm 3 wires away from it turning over. but I'm afraid to do so and burn up anything in place. I'm no electrician. jasonbraden5150@gmail.com that's my email if you want to chat get more info. Maybe I can send some pics.

Whats the right way to connect the wires to the coils to get the right firing order,love your videos
@ANDY57 жыл бұрын
G'day Dwight, thanks mate. I'm not quite clear on what you're asking. On the primary side of the coil it doesn't matter what terminal is positive or negative, unless indicated on the coil. The secondary side just goes to the spark plugs and in the case of a twin coil, like the XS11, it fires both cylinders simultaneously, but one cylinder is on the exhaust stroke so the spark is redundant.

Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions thanks for the quick reply,just wondering the pattern on how to connect the wires from the coils to the spark plugs,my motorcycle is running on 2 cylinders right now and want to change the cables but forgot the pattern

Did I miss the episodes where the engine was refreshed? BTW these Dyna coils look like they were made for a Harley Twin, is that the source?
@ANDY56 жыл бұрын
No mate, they were advertised as being 3 ohm suitable for XS11
@jameslaxton67698 жыл бұрын
why would my dyna coils get very hot on my 1989 r600?
@ANDY58 жыл бұрын
G'day James, not sure mate. All coils will run a little hot due to the nature of their design. They produce high voltage electrical energy and that results in heat as a byproduct. This is usually mitigated by locating them where they can be cooled by air flow.

"Aluminum angle iron"...LOL ;)
@UPTHETOWN6 жыл бұрын
You sure that's a toroid? Toroids are usualy circular with a hole through the middle I just call it the iron core
@ANDY56 жыл бұрын
G’day mate, I was pretty certain it is called a toroid bar. It’s laminated silica steel. The circular toroid is actually formed by the Motorcycle frame, as I discovered when I was unable to get spark due to the fact that I used aluminum mounting brackets and lost the magnetic connectivity with the frame.
@Technie876 жыл бұрын
This could be the reason why I couldn't get one of my coils to fire,. . . Interesting.
