I bought the 16” bar also and it works fine. More apt to bog but that is expected. Cut the bigger logs…just can’t rush it.

You need more schooling, the .050 is the thickness off the driver on the chain. It should match the gauge of the bar. If the chain can tip in the bar you will cut circles.

Thanks so much for this video - the Oregon stuff works for the 18V DeWalt UK version as well, bar has same part # but chain is different, I ended up using 91VXL055E All sorted now - really super useful thanks!

Replying to myself again! The16” bar with 050 chain was great but then I switched to 043 and what a difference! The saw absolutely eats timber now compared to the original dewalt bar and chain. Whipped through some 12” oak yesterday with no dramas! UK part numbers for 16” Oregon bar and chain at 043 were: Oregon 90PX056E AdvanceCut™ Saw Chain Oregon 164MLEA041 Single Rivet Guide Bar Thanks again for this video setting me off down this path, has made such a difference!

Interesting video. I recently purchased one of these. I’m happy enough to stick with the standard bar and it suits my requirements. I’d advise only changing up if you really think it’s necessary. I reckon a lot of time and consideration goes into designing these and modifying them incurs risk. Using the longer bar could put too much burden on the motor and on the battery. But, as you say, for occasional use and the longer reach it may well be worth it.

Yes, I agree with you 100%. It's not engineered for a longer cutting surface. And these tools got more expensive, now in my neighborhood they are running almost $200. Over a year ago I saw them on sale for 99. So yes, I'm sort of banking on DeWalt over building them. Hey, thanks for your comments and for watching 👍

As long as the chain tension is correct and the bar is oiled this will not over work this saw. The stock DeWalt as compared to the standard 12" Oregon chain. - Oregon is a quality chain Dewalt is poor quality. I made the Switch from the stock 12" DeWalt setup to the Oregon 16" bar and quality Oregon chain. No this does not increase cutting capacity At All, it makes deliming branches easier, a chain with more teeth will stay sharp longer. Repeat- Stock 12" DeWalt chain is poor quality don't waste time or money sharpening it.

Also thinking about longer bar:) Batteries heats up inside, so when you consider battery is gone, sometimes just wait for 10-15 min and try again. That worked for me, at least.

Thinking about this upgrade but not sure how much harder on the motor it would be...enough to wear everything out faster. Anyone done a long term test on this?
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen a long-term test on that yet, I think you bring up a very valid point though. I would definitely worry about that if I was using it to cut full width, like a full 16 or 18 in, all the time. But I think you're definitely right, a smaller bar is going to be a lot less stress on the motor

Get the 14" 043 Oregon bar and chain or the Dewalt 16" 043 bar. It doesn't hurt the saw. The 16" 050, I think would work short term but may shorten the motor life.

I tried the 16 inch with .043 width and the chain was a bit short so my bar was about 1/16 shy of meeting the tension pin. Have you noticed this issue. I bought the kit with the r56 chain. Do you think if I Dremel the hole a little wider to meet the pin it'll be ok?
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 3 ай бұрын
The R56 is a bit narrower than the S56, so it is a good choice. But IDK why it wouldn't fit, assuming you have your chain/bar adjuster all the way back and that the kit you bought has the same tail sizing. Dremeling has often fixed things for me but has gotten me in trouble too, not sure I can recommend that, your risk obviously. Can you take it back and try another brand?

@@anesthesiadreamin I was able to angle the bar at the right angle and the pin fit. I had to twist the bar from there to fit over the center oval post but it fit snug. The chain seems a bit tight but it works. It'll stretch so hopefully ok. Thanks for responding

This 16" bar fits. The Oregon 16" 043 bar does not but if you want a 16" 043 bar, get the Dewalt bar. It fit fine and won't drag the power down much. Also, the Oregon 14" 043 bar and chain fits great too.

Great news! Thanks for letting me know! I looked and looked for a 043 bar/ chain and couldn't seem to find one. I would rather run 043 because of the narrower kerf. Thanks for the good advice, and thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Sometimes, just sometimes - you have to be willing to make a gamble on nothing more than a comment on KZbin such as the one I am replying to. I drove about 20 miles round trip to a store that had one 16" DeWalt bar left in stock (it was a weird part number though: N594320). Bought the DeWalt .043" chain to go with it. Came home, tested it, and it works PERFECTLY! Thank you sir for this tidbit of wisdom. There really is no need to go testing out Oregon bars and chains when the 16" DeWalt bar fits like a glove to begin with. And best of all - it's .043!

What is the model number on your saw. I noticed when you tighten the side cover it did not ratchet. I want to get the same saw. Is the 20 volt battery okay or should I up grade to the flex 60 volt? My work will be trimming and trees 8 inches or less. I do not intend to change the 12 inch bar. Great review, I subbed.
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
You are right, it does not ratchet...model # DCCS620... I think the 20 volt battery is fine for my purposes, I can't remember how many limbs I cut in one day, but I made a video about it and it's on my channel, titled "Dewalt 20v chainsaw for real limbing?", I can't remember how many hundreds of limbs I cut on one five amp hour battery, but it was a bunch, and that was with the 16-in bar. If you go to my channel, you can find the search this channel icon, and type in dewalt And it will be one of the videos that pops up. Thanks for watching and for your comments 👍

Yes! Lots of limbing and lots of bucking last fall, working great. I think I promised to try an 18-in bar, I have one in the garage, I just haven't gotten around to trying it yet. And the original 12-in bar goes to the mountains with me just as a backup.

Yes, it does a bit. I can store it on its side with the cap up to keep it from leaking. I understand you can buy a bigger o-ring, you know the nitrile or viton style that is resistant to oils, but I don't know what size it is or thickness.

I agree 100%. It wasn't engineered to run a full 16-in bar along 16 inches of wood. What I'm using it for now is limbing, where I'm just using the longer reach to cut one to two inch branches off logs. So I'm hoping it'll last just doing that. Thanks for watching and for your comment 👍

Why spend the money on a bigger bar when you could've cut those logs with 12 in bar. A lot of excess bar sticking out the other end. Maybe you plan on cutting bigger logs.
@anesthesiadreamin
@anesthesiadreamin 2 жыл бұрын
No, I really don't want to cut bigger logs, I want to use this electric chainsaw as a limber in the woods. So cut the tree down with a gas saw, and then limb the tree with this saw and a longer bar, so I don't have to bend over so far. My back's getting bad the older I get, and I'm just trying to preserve my back as long as possible. The less I bend over, the longer I can work in a day 👍 Thanks for watching and for commenting
