You are wrong using the term anesthesia assistant… C-AA’s are certified anesthesiologist assistants.. those applying to C-AA programs have to have bachelors degree and all the prerequisites to apply to medical school and exceptional GRE/MCAt scores… yes the scope of practice is different in that all certified C-AA’s practice in an anesthesia care team model, but they do the same work as a CRNA under this model and are paid the same accordingly….would you work a job doing the same work as someone else and get paid less?
@8UMadBro8 Жыл бұрын
You are correct with the terminology, but CRNAs tend to make a little more money on average. This has many components to it but the 2 biggest factors are 1) location (some states tend to pay better than others) & 2) independent practice... someone with their own practice is going to make more money. With that being said, if your hospital has both CRNAs & CAAs, they are likely to make about the same. CRNAs just have an advantage at the top of the payscale which skews their average up higher

Thank you Shonna for this! I just subscribed 🤩 Is there a video where you answer when was the best to have kids during your MD journey? Would you say it's during residency or your fellowship? I really value family life, which is why I'm leaning towards AA a bit, so I'm not in school as long. What are your thoughts?!
@ShonnaMissymehd4 жыл бұрын
Hey!! So I don't have a dedicated video discussing this topic, it is mentioned throughout several videos and a few tiktoks, but my answer is always the same! I think the best time is when you are mentally in a good space, maybe the least workload (so for me I felt that was during my 4th year of medical school), and when you'll have the most support from family and friends. Many women choose to start their family in residency (especially in certain specialties like peds and OB), but personally residency wouldn't have been the best option for me due to my location, the majority of my support is in another state! Fellowship will likely be the same, but the workload may not be as demanding! If you talk to women physicians who are now in practice, MOST will tell you that there will never really be a "GOOD" time once you start medical school. It will come down to what time is best for you!

Actually not a bad video. It is incredibly hard to compare the three professions objectively. Most videos I’ve seen just parrot the political talking points of each profession’s national organization. I would point out that the pay scale is incorrect for a CRNA. I made well over $200K last year and I took almost 6 weeks off and I didn’t take call. Pay for all three professions varies depending upon location, and practice. I know many CRNAs working independently making close to $300K But where I’m at currently, the full-time pay is in the $175K range for new grads (not what make as a Locum, which is a traveling temporary contractor). It is more than the AAs are making but not a whole lot. Then again the actual practice, under the ACT, is not any different. They do treat me differently and rely on me occasionally to be independent because of my experience. But I will say you did a decent job presenting and attempting to stay apolitical

Well in my country the situation is really kinda weird : First we have 4 programs for anesthesia.. 1- became anesthesiologist After graduation from high school U take 4 years medical school and 4 years residency ( that's one we all know) .. 2 we have the CNRA Yes and that's one is normal too u need to get bachelor in nursing and the practice in icu and then master degree in CNRA. 3 unfortunately cuse believe me it's not about the program but most about us the students and the Residents of the program let me tell u first what is the program it is studying 4 years in anesthesia after high school and that's it and u became anesthesia technologist The sad but true about this is that the Residents of the program didn't tell us what we will be after graduation and the students who ask they've tell them they will be A DOCTOR I mean "anesthesiologist" so after those years pass aLOT if not all of us were shocked by the reality and the deep knowledge we know about anesthesia that's make us end up after 4 yearning start it correctly by going to med school beside that u can't develop ur self in this program. 4- is studying after high school 3 years in anesthesia program and u became anesthesia tech. 5- AA PROGRAM I think its kind of similar to the one above but we don't have it.

Shouldnt do it for the pay anyways. CRNAs are fighting for independent practice and don’t want to work in the ACT model. Physicians support AA’s more. CAA school is harder to achieve since you’ll need the same pre requisites as a pre-med student and possibly taking the MCAT. CRNA requires you to be a nurse and now requires an extra year of fluff classes that they all know is BS. The only reason they are pushing doctorate nursing programs on CRNAs is so they can lobby for independence. If you want to independently practice go to medical school, you’ll get paid more too.
