Her work as an educator-both at the university level and in the larger public sphere-has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial, and gender justice. Her lecture is titled, “Frameworks for Radical Feminism in the 21st Century.”
This lecture is part of the Boston Public Library lecture series, “Notable Women.”

I love that the Cuban woman asked...HOW CAN WE PUT (Radical) FEMINISM INTO ACTION? One issue I have with this Frameworks for Radical Feminism talk is that it can easily be turned into academic jargon. Davis critiques Beyonce for being an agent of capitalism which therefore affects her efforts at enacting feminism. (I agree). But I'd also say that the field of Academia is just as much a privileged Capitalist structure. Davis discusses a multitude of "intersectional realities" to feminism but I feel it moved away from the topic of having a solid framework to mobilize Radical Feminist Organizing. It was a bit too broad & safe, somewhat pandering to this wave of "inclusivity politics" that often derails feminist action all together in exchange of merely "validating" all sorts of experiences across the globe.

I'm sorry. She might be brilliant, I don't know. Can anyone provide a link to her written works? I find this kind of speech difficult to comprehend. The tone and the emphasis on certain words is distracting. A clear example is when people increase the volume and emphasise a word like the word *"especially"* ... When you say: "ESPECIALLY women of color" Instead of: "Especially women OF COLOR" The emphasis when using the word *especially* should be on the subject descriptor. We know its about "women" but it is *_especially_** about women *"of colour."* This is just the very first example of this kind of distracting speech pattern... Around 5 mins into the video. (5:40) Politicians employ these kinds of speech patterns often, which is perhaps why hearing it from someone like this...is so infuriating. I'm sorry, I just can't. Anyone suggest one of her book titles that might cover this topic?

@@MC-cg2rr In modern parlance 'radical' is synonymous with the meaning of 'extremism'. In the media, social or otherwise, you rarely hear of terminology such as 'leftist extremism' or 'extreme feminism', its almost invariably 'leftist radical' and 'radical feminism.' If you're trying to argue that the use of the term 'radical' is based on its original Latin meaning then you'd be wrong.

@@saiello2061 but she's not wrong? That is why it's called 'radical feminism', not because it's extreme feminism, even if those two terms are used interchangeably a lot, 'radical' was opted for because of the Latin, that's why it was decided on, not because it's extreme feminism

I think it’s amazing that people like this criticize capitalism. She has written and sold a lot of books and I’d bet she didn’t not take the money. It’s total hypocrisy. I personally congratulate her for her success whether I agree with a lot of what she says or not. If other people would look to improve their individual development of skills to further their economic success as well they’d realize all their problems would go away.

socialism isn't "when poor"... go look at the average government housing provided in any country with socially based policies. USA is #3 for wealth inequality under Chile and Mexico. One person cannot change the inherent structure of society through capital provided from book sales. Socialist should just stay poor and die? lol
@derekmortensen85

@@livinglux9107 no they should be capitalists and thrive which is exactly what people are doing. Outside of being extremely mentally and physically handicapped there’s no excuse for anyone in America to be in an uncomfortable financial state and if they are it’s due to their own choices or lack of action.

@@derekmortensen85 Capitalist own property, machinery, equipment.... They run companies or organizations. They are private owners. Selling books doesn't make one a capitalist. Now if one owns the printing press and printed books, newspapers, and other printing material for other authors , that would make them a capitalist. Regardless of how many books Ms Davis sold, she is not a capitalist. That is like saying people who have jobs are capitalist because they get a pay check. Capitalist seem to always exploit the talents and labor of others.
@derekmortensen85

@@veganbutterfly3652 that is the dumbest attempt to rationalize away someone not being a capitalist that I’ve ever seen. Angela Davis mad like $75,000,000 last year and is referred to as the highest paid activist ever. She’s been on the cover of different financial magazines and I’m not aware of her ever denying a paycheck. She also owns property and when she published her book she used a publisher that used machinery and labor to produce those books. So by your definition she actively is exploiting those people. She also negotiated a contract for that book and determined profitable deal for her self. Saying she’s not a capitalist and a hypocrite is like saying mud isn’t dirt.
