I am a retired pet groomer and the dogs LOVE the attention!! My friend did a competition way back when it was still being introduced. She put a scarlet parrot on her white Standard poodle.That dog loved it. There is no abuse ever coming from a groomer. Common sense even dictates that the work people have been putting out in the last 5 years or so with coloring is basically the same time a dog may have to stand on a table to get the haircuts that the people want their dogs in. Is that abuse?? It becomes almost like a training exercise to the dog. Most color work on the dogs nap on the tables while it is being done. Then all their peers and judges give them 2 hours to transform the dog into something creative. 2 hrs may be long to you but they have been trained by groomers since a puppy hood what to do when getting groomed!!! AWESOME WORK TO THE PET STYLIST THAT DID THIS!! AWESOME IMAGINATION !!!

They don't inhale any hairspray that is a reason of concern cause most grooming shops have air cleaners now and there are ways to apply hairspray to dogs where you don't spray it like you would for your own hair. Most times it is used in our fingers and behind the dogs head. The average customer whom asks for a dye job on their dogs are not going to pick up their dogs with any hairspray on them..Because the main criteria of the groomer is to follow the dog's parents instructions on a haircut and color job and to make the dogs coat look like it grew that way naturally. If you want to go on a rant about the over usage of it for a dog then I suggest you go to a Confirmation dog show and watch the Shih-tzu class and perhaps the Maltese class. Those dogs and their top knots do not grow like that ever naturally. My friend used to iron her Maltese's coat and I doubt that that is not still being done w/ all the drop coat breeds. Groomers in general are the last people on earth to do dangerous things to the most coveted friends of their clients.

+Claudia Cunningham ..."Retired?" due to health reasons I bet ya! Most likely forced to retired weather you want to admit to it or not and caused by the inherent ordinary hazards in pet grooming. This so called creative art is causing those that do it to develop even more serious illnesses and opens them (and dogs too) to cancers not previously seen in the occupation.

Yep! you are right about retiring for health reasons but by dropping a 10 lb weight on my hand and wrist. I now have "Complex regional pain syndrome" Yes I was forced to quit because my hands got really bad in pain from scissoring which was my forte'. I loved loved grooming dogs. It was a art form to me and a daily challenge of making someone's furry friend as cute,clean and made them look like their hair grew naturally like that. There are some hazards in pet grooming but not any more than in other careers. The obvious one being bit by a dog which happens A LOT less than you would guess. Most dogs/cats know the role they play in the grooming shop because most were trained as pups or kittens. A lot of groomers I know or see are smokers so that cancer would suck. But what really sickens me is you trying to connect cancer w/ grooming pets and implying I have cancer. Thanks very much for that but sorry to bust your bubble but I don't but then again I do vape Sativa Marijuana daily so perhaps that is protecting me. Makes sense cause I have not had the flu or a cold for over 6 years. Exactly where did you get this notion that is truly false. Please direct me to your source cause what you are saying is crazy!!

So last time I checked, vegetables don't cause cancer. Your just another moron spouting nonsense about something you just made up to try and sound correct. 90% of groomers will retired because they got carpal tunnel from scissoring the dogs, which is where we use our shears to trim up the face and body of a dog. As she stated, the only dangers of being a groomer is getting bit , clawed, or occasionally cutting your finger on the blades of the razor or slicing your finger with the shears, it happens, it's all sharp metal or ceramic your using. Either way, never is cancer something a groomer or dog can get from being groomed, also, there are spray hairsprays for dogs, designed not to hurt them if it gets in the eyes or is inhaled. Go spout your bullcrap somewhere else.

guys oh my fucking god. SHE. DOES NOT. USE. HUMAN. HAIR. DYE. She uses vegan ANIMAL SAFE dyes for their fur. some of them are even temporary! The animals are OKAY. They are obviously well fed, exercised, and groomed. Ive worked with service dogs before and by the looks of it all these doggy's seem completely okay! It's great that you all are concerned for them, but these guys are very well treated and are in fact probably spoiled rotten. They're hella cute, what can you do?

I really doubt the dog cares what it looks like. She seems as if she really cares for the dogs and just enjoys it. I'm sure the dogs like getting the attention anyway.

I am so glad she mentioned the safety of the formula. I was cringing in disgust for the first part of the video. Luckily, the dye isn't harmful to them. I only wish she would have said the same about the hairspray. I don't use hairspray on my own hair as It icks me out, so I can't imagine how these pups feel having "lots of hairspray" on their bodies. That being said, I have a (I don't like the word mutt) mixed breed (mother was Shih Tzu/Pekingnese cross, father was Yorkie) named Porkchop who loves to be groomed. I have been grooming dogs (not for a business or for profit) for a very long time. It is a must to be attentive, cautious and loving when they're young and you first begin grooming/having them groomed. If you decide to use a professional groomer, do your research, some trauma can't be undone. It can be a very enjoyable experience for them when done with care and consideration. If at all possible, at least while they're puppies, try to use a sink or something to bathe them in that will allow them to be closer to you, it makes it less intimidating. Make sure you have plenty of time as rushing can cause added anxiety. As a puppy, I would bathe Porkchop while talking to him in a soothing voice and rubbing his ears to prevent nervousness. As a result, he's always excited for a bath (never to be done more than once every few weeks, as it dries the natural oils in their skin), he loves having his hair cut, literally jumps up and down and plays when he's being blown dry (always use a cool setting or a dryer specifically for grooming), and falls asleep when I brush him. You didn't need my whole story, and you didn't ask for a tutorial, but the point I'm making is that if you don't make grooming a traumatizing experience, pets can really love it. Other than their humans, dogs love nothing as much as they love attention and affection and it seems this type of grooming is no exception for creating that for them. Other than the hairspray, I would say these dogs probably enjoy some of this. Disclaimer: I'm not recommending dying your animals. Just proposing an argument for this particular video. Deciding to have a pet is like having a child: it's no longer only about you. Pets are love wrapped in a adorable package and should be treated like family. They are not disposable and they are not an accessory. Remember that adopting a pet into your life is a serious commitment, and you should do research and be fully prepared before deciding to have any pets. Be prepared to do whatever it takes within your power to keep your pet happy and healthy and with you. Think long term; and if getting rid of the pet seems like it could ever be an option, do not get the pet in the first place. Ok, I'm finally done.

Chris Christonsen is a dog grooming brand that makes dog safe hairspray that just hold the position and fluff of the coat it doesn't harden the coat. I've tried it before and it works great to help pom coats stay fluffy longer.

I know this is frowned upon to say, but people who own showdogs take better care of their dogs than your vet will take care of yours. These people make so much money off the well being of their dog, they cannot win a competition with a dog who isn't in peak physical condition. Vets make money off prescriptions, shots and surgeries.

Please stop this, the PTSD these dogs suffer after grooming is just TERRIBLE. They loose all self worth and fall into depression. You can see how the dog named Hero is just terrified and absolutly abused by his slow movements, tucked tail, licking his lips. At first I thought dyeing your dog was cruel, but ya know what, it's all cruel, ALL OFF IT!! Don't brush, bathe, pet, or look at your dog!! They force the dogs to stand in one place for 5 days straight where they only drink hairspray that's OBVIOUSLY toxic to dogs (the logic). Debbie Ward They do not know the difference. Only you see the it. Dogs do not act like people even though people think they do. Next thing you know the dog is in the shelter with a bad rap sheet because owners don't have time to play and enjoy their furry friend which means they never gained any knowledge from a book or a call or quick Q & A visit to their Veterinarian. People need to realize that owning a dog is not a requirement of life. They are not pawns so you can keep up with the Jones next door. They 100% are not abused during a coloring session at all. Heck they LOVE it and you can tell how excited they are when they hit the competitions and especially during the sculpting with scissors and then at the skit each dog and owner can put on at the end. The dogs look like they all are preening at the shows!!

Have you ever groomed a dog? XD My one dog runs up tail wagging when she sees a brush or her clippers. She LOVES the attention and will even put up with baths for it (and that dog never leaves my side... like seriously, she goes everywhere with me). It's all about starting them when they're young so they aren't ever scared. To some dogs it's like an hour petting session from 2 or 3 people, then having everyone dote on you for the next month, they love it. As for the more timid dogs I agree with you. It's all about knowing your pet. (For the record I have a pomeranian/terrier/cockapoo mix, she just gets brushed every couple of days and a trim every so often, I don't participate in the above thing and honestly find it kinda foolish.)

+Mary Ronan You are so wrong on so many levels, the hairspray she uses on the dogs is specially made for dogs, not only does it contain way less chemicals than human hairspray, but it is safe if it accidently gets in the eyes or is inhaled. And the dye she uses is vegetable based, meaning you could eat it and be fine. Your passing judgement before knowing ANYTHING about what she does. I do this with my dogs, I make $0 on it, and we are bonded closer than before I did it. And no, it's not for the attention, it's just something fun to do with your dog. According to Ceasar Milan, coloring a dogs fur can be harmful and the dyes are not proven to be safe for them. This can also be psychologically harmful. I would say, not the best idea. My dogs didn't even like me to put bows on their heads. Oh, and btw, I am a professional Master Haircolorist (for humans, of course :) ) So I do enjoy coloring hair. Give me human head and I'll rock a colored mohawk if they want it.

+Kellen Sinay My dog (a little mix breed) loves being groomed. She has no leash, collar, or other restraint on and was never trained to be groomed, but I can bathe, trim, shave, brush, etc. her for an hour or more and she is very happy. Panting, tail tagging, turns without being forced, rolls over and offeres her paws. If she gets tired she just lays down and we take a break, not a big deal. For those of us who like our dogs to be mat, tangle, infection, and dirt free we groom our dogs. These people do the same process with a few extras, not like the dog really knows the difference of appearance. Since most dogs like being groomed what's the big deal? Humans beat, rape, skin alive, boil alive, electrocute, mass slaughter by the trillions, and so on animals all the time and very few are upset about that. How's that fair?

Ok I usually don't comment on videos like this but Why in the world would it be disgusting or cruel to do this. The dogs look totally comfortable on the podium. She is arranging their hair with dog safe dyes. She said herself that she only works for an hour at a time to keep the dogs calm and comfortable. She has the dogs well being at heart the whole time and to me, this doesn't sound any worse than any other grooming job. So if grooming dogs is wrong, I truly don't understand the world

Fashions! First, people started to cover themselves with Tattoos and calling it pretty, now turn for the animals. To say short - stupid, cruel, unpleasant. Just imagine you have been tattoed all over your body to look like a Panda for several weeks!! or imagine you have a 3D popeye head for several weeks, how would you feel like?? I believe most of you find those people who made all those surgeries to look like cats or other creatures weird or disgusting .. well if they like what they did to themselves and you just disliked it, it's fine, but imagine if they were forced to do it?? Now that would be cruel, right?? how about these dogs?? who said a dog loves to look like a panda bear?? how will other dogs see him?? and how would he feel about himself?? I believe it should be against animal rights and it should be illegal!!

Haven't we done enough to these animals? We took wolves and bread them for "looks" until we turned them into Great Danes and tiny "handbag dogs" and English Bulldogs... Now you're leaving them with uncomfortable dyes & matts because it's "pretty". Wtf people?! Where is the ASPCA on this?

XD According to recent studies it seems wolves self domesicated in cooperation with humans. We have now bred and inbred the poor beasts so much they're unhealthy sometimes, the bulldog for example, or pug, or some lines of German Shepherd. Domestication in itself is not a bad thing, neither is grooming (even extreme grooming like this), what is bad is how we view animals as objects around the world, and not just dogs. I don't hear you crying about chickens being boiled alive in electrofied water, or babies being shredded alive (chicks, not humans, but that too I guess XD). Humans have SO many forms of terrible cruelty, messing with a healthy dog's fur really isn't worthy of ''animal cruelty'' as a title.
