In continuation with the celebrations for Dame Lansbury's 95th birthday:
Dame Lansbury is interviewed by Barbara Walters from her LA home, fresh off the first year of Murder, She Wrote. She also discusses her film career - as Walters notes, "she's averaged more than a movie a year" - and her successes on Broadway, as well as her family life. Notably, Ms Walters dug into her children's lives, and though it had been agreed beforehand to exclude this from the broadcast, it was shown nonetheless. Originally aired December 10, 1985.

Murder She Wrote is still on Mon to Fri at 7pm in Toronto, Ontario. I absolutely love watching it and hate when I have to miss an episode. So much so that I downloaded the Amazon prime app onto my phone where I can access every single season and episode. In 2021 Murder She Wrote is still going strong!

Shows just how amazing she is to have coped during a time when there was no help at all and still saved her son. Yet today many still die to drug abuse regardless of the help available.

"She came, she saw, she conquered and absolutely nothing is the same . . ." 😉 Angela Lansbury remains an extraordinary and unique talent. One of the things that I find so interesting about her career is that she is as equally adept at playing monstrous mother figures (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, GYPSY and of course SWEENEY TODD) as she is warm "Mother Goose" like characters (MAME, Mrs. Potts in BEAUTY & THE BEAST, MRS. SANTA CLAUS, the Balloon Lady in MARY POPPINS RETURNS and Jessica Fletcher in MURDER, SHE WROTE). 🎭 I had seen this interview back when it originally aired but it was interesting to see again! Thanks for the post.

I know Lansbury was unhappy with this interview, and said so. The thing is, she seems very comfortable discussing her family situation. The kind thing for Walters to do would've been to cut, allowed her to compose herself, and reask the question. This feels exploitive.

Angela was appearing in the 1983 Broadway revival of "mame" with gigantic success and raves from the critics and the public. She was scheduled to be filmed in the Broadway version on Showtime and fate took another heartbreak for this talented and much loved little lady. Murder She wrote came to her at the same time and she had to pass up this wonderful documented opportunity. This is so very sad because we could have actually seen how wonderful and great Angela was on Broadway and what the world truly missed when she wasn't starred in the movie. I love this little lady so very very much and God bless her! 🤔😇❤️❤️♥️💞😓

I’ve always loved Angela Lansbury some of the movies that Barbara Walters had mentioned. I have not seen. But there are a few of them that I have seen such as Bedknobs and broomsticks. The animated movies of beauty and the beast. And beauty and the beast to. I loved her character Mrs. Potts.. But I will always love her as Jessica Fletcher on murder she wrote. I wouldn’t mind hanging out with someone as sweet as her. She really is a class act. I wish I could’ve had the opportunity to star in murder she wrote just for fun. And get to know her as Jessica Fletcher. In reality. Angela is just as sweet as her character Jessica Fletcher. Someone once said that 90% of Jessica Fletcher. Is Angela Lansbury. Angela Lansbury is very much like Jessica Fletcher from the interviews that I’ve seen. Angela Ansberry is just as sweet. In real life as her character Jessica Beatrice Fletcher. From murder she wrote I love you Jessica. Or should I say Angela Lansbury you really are a class act

In Barbara's later years in the public eye, I think she mellowed some and she was less intrusive and less RUDE to her guests. Consequently, my attitude towards her mellowed. When rewatching interviews like this one, I'm reminded how irritating Barbara could be and yes, right down RUDE! It is possible to be a good interviewer and not be rude.

Nonsense. Every star who appeared on Walters’s shows knew what kind of questions she was going to ask. And Lansbury was certainly willing to discuss them.
