I’m a black woman that worked in Corporate for 14 years and now have my own business. She definitely bright, but she’s parroting a lot of other people’s ideas. Intelligence something else completely. Intelligence is more associated with problem solving, recognizing patters, and innovation. Angle Rye basically has made a career out of highlighting problems. A true genius and visionary puts together workable solutions. Our community has a lot folks who like to continue to frame and re-frame all of the problems that we deal with. They write books, sell tickets to lectures and conventions, an appear on television as pundits…but rarely do they arrive at an actionable conclusion. If they solve the problem, how can they continue to make money telling you everything that’s problematic?

@@jennyfromdablock1735 Ma’am, I know Angela Rye. I’ve been following her for years when she was a CNN contributor. She was appropriate for the network she was one. That was the correct space. But people watch sports to escape a lot of the B.S. that they see on the news. No one wants to turn on ESPN and be lectured to by a single, middle aged woman about issues that directly affect about 13% of the population. It’s not about her being genuine or not. It’s about the beliefs that she is espousing. She has an unpopular belief system. It’s about how hostile she comes across sometimes. Very few people can be almost guilted into doing the right thing. When she’s on a mainstream non news magazine type program , a lot of people are annoyed because she’s perceived to be forcing herself and her doctrine onto people. That kind of thing affects the people see and feel about black folks in general. She’s entitled to opinions and beliefs, but do it in the appropriate setting. Plus a lot of what she’s saying is problematic when you really drill down on it. She’s actually galvanizing as many of her enemies as she is her friends.

@@brandnew9834 then why do you have HR to voice matters such as harassment when victimized??? @@dlucero8635 Wait, are you replying to something I said or someone else? I can’t fully follow what you’re saying because some of the word choices don’t make sense. But that might not be your fault, I’ve had autocorrect erroneously change my words before myself. If I am understanding your point correctly, in that you are saying that good leadership can be outspoken and even antagonistic? There have been multiple proven ways of leading, but that’s not what we’re really talking about. Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, people that are literal geniuses. They’re driving innovation. They’re doing special things. They can get away with that because people would kill to work for them and be part of history. Generals, football coaches, real leaders like that are a very different story from the assistant HR manager for a medium sized company. The vast majority of adults are normal, rank and file employees. They’re not really leading anything huge. In that context, you cannot get away with being antagonistic. That’s why Jemele Hill is gone from ESPN. That’s why Angela Rye isn’t with CNN anymore. She doesn’t have the tangible results to justify her being difficult to work with. I’ve seen it a number of times, black women overwhelmingly have been unable to hit mute on that internal narrative going on in their head. They’re clearly uncomfortable around mixed company. Yes, people can feel the tension and they tend to try to minimize their interaction with them. That feeds into their internal narrative. That’s why a lot of people don’t like working with them. That’s why they have such a poor reputation. That’s a big reason why they’re so isolated.

She is but lots of black people complain about her. They don't understand the world she had to straddle both as a mixed woman and an educated woman. You HAVE to move diplomatically to get through the door that's a fact. So you DO need to compromise yo a degree. She balances her existence in this small world she inhabits brilliantly. You KNOW she is for black people. But she has to strategise, she must be able to negotiate with the white world. She had to be educated into that system, but she is also totally for the culture and all her work elevates us. People just don't like it when blacks are a little bougie. Like we aint supposed to like and want nice things. And we seriously need to stop calling black people 'eloquent'. As though 1, it's a surprise that some of us have wide vocabularies and 2 like speaking in a way that gets you further in a white world bestows 'rightness' or more validity on someone or their way of speaking. People in the hood sre eloquent too. Eloquence is being able to articulate what you intend to say, and have it be received and understood. With a touch of flair. I have heard the most 'ghetto' people be perfectly eloquent. Rap is some of the greatest eloquence we have. Stop hyping up the English language as though black people haven't contributed great things to it and haven't been imaginative in adapting it.

@@TNmike0309 Because there is a difference between and knee jerk emotional reaction and a well planned strategic response. Our community is very thoughtful in most of our responses. We want to to whatever feel a good in the moment. That’s exactly why we’re at the bottom. For example, my great uncle was shot in the back by police Northern California. This took place in the early 1960’s, before the Civil Rights Act was passed. Folks in his community got angry and a protest turned violent. The cops cracked down. More victims were created, yet nothin changed until MLK spearheaded a STRATEGIC, ORGANIZED, and DISCIPLINED approach.in less than 5 years we had the Civil Rights act and Federal backing.

In my opinion major corporations hiring “race correspondents” is a bad idea and generally unAmerican. I disagree with her that “everything is political. Getting a promotion at work is political, etc”. No, getting a promotion at work can and should be based on competency alone. We are now in a position where every tech company, major corporation, mainstream media, etc. push this agenda. Look up Evergreen State College on KZbin. How far will we allow this to go?
