Years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to take a guild workshop with Carol Doak, the queen of paper piecing. She had us use Scotch Brands removable “scotch tape”, which I didn’t even know existed. It’s very light, and not very sticky. So you can put it over a paper piecing pattern seam you’ve had to rip out. When you resew the seam, the light tape does not gum up your needle and, more importantly, it tears easily when you are taking the paper off the back of the block.

I use all the cut offs in CRUMB BLOCKS / IMPROV BLOCKS ... they make great STAIN GLASS quilts that just shine ... especially if the fabric is a bright or jewel tones. I also use RICKY TIMS STABLE STUFF a stabilizer that does not have to be torn out for complex paper piecing.

I liked the paper piecing episode. I bought the cake mix recently that I'm going to try. Would you ever do an application quilt like a dresden plate for example, and is there any difference when you machine quilt it.

If I make a mistake....who's kidding who...when I make a mistake, I first tape the seam on the paper side. Then I flip the block and use an eyebrow trimmer between the two pieces of fabric as my seam ripper. It's much easier than trying to rip out those tiny stitches and not tear the paper, or repairing the paper afterwards.
@llamafromspace6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering why you wouldn’t just rip out the other side a little more recklessly
@cherib1046 жыл бұрын
Ive tried a seam ripper too, but find the eyebrow trimmer safer. I've never cut my fabric with it, but have with the seam ripper.

I use cheap copier paper when I do paper piecing. The small stitches perforate the paper close enough that it tears easily. Each time I start a paper piecing project it takes a bit to get the hang of it again. It is an excellent technique to make certain blocks.

Paper piecing is my nemesis which is why I don’t do it. You make it seem so simple I might give it another try.

If your paper rips and you need to repair and your transparent tape gums up your needle, next time use a paper label. I use the trimmings off my mailing address labels. The paper label is a bit easier to remove than the tape, but if I need to remark the line, I can use a sharpie and see it better on the paper label. But use what you got! xoxo from ⛅ partly cloudy Arizona. 71/44f today.

Where do you get the foundation piecing paper?
@frickmom6 жыл бұрын
I like to use Carol Doak's paper - you can find it at many online shops like Connecting Threads. It's thin but will go through the printer easily.

Lucky Sinclair it is a HandiQuilter brand sewing machine. They also produce long arm quilting machines. It looks a lot like the Janome horizon series Sewing machines.
