By the time people made it to this scene both Angela and James were already near their breaking point already. Angela saw more and know more than James and this insight was enough to send her over the edge.While James still have one lingering wish which is to see Mary and say what needs to be said. They both dont have much more strength to go further anymore.
@Polomance8623 ай бұрын
The original plays more into Angela being delusional, and completely unhinged. I think the clear intent is written on what Angela wanted to do. She wanted to kill her mother, thinking once the last person in her family was dead. She'd find closure and peace with herself. She's far more pointed in her remarks. Alluding to this hatred of men she garnered from her traumatic past. She's far less kind to James than the remake is. Not that she liked him in either. The Remake plays more into Angela's grief, and how tired she is. She wants to kill her mother but accepts the wrong conclusion. She can't kill her so she'd rather kill herself. She also puts the pressure on James better where she points out James's kindness being superficial. he can't love her, heal her, or take care of her. His kindness is not helping her. Angela feeling hollow in the Remake conveys this setting that she's broken. She doesn't have the will to continue and so she gives up. I like to imagine that Angela is the reflection the "In Water" ending. A lesson to James should he fail to find the courage and answer he truly needs. To kill himself will never fix anything. He'll die in the hell he put himself in. Much like Angela who couldn't find the courage and truth to move on from her own trauma. She intended to kill herself and James watches herself walk into a hell she doesn't deserve.
@jedieknight723 ай бұрын
That's why I like original Angela more. She is way more expressive, her emotions change constantly in this scene from kind to doubtful and disappointed to self destructive and when she is in this state, she becomes so serious like she knows how everything is going to end because her traumatic events completely ruined her worldview of everything. Original feels like Im in a theatre while remake feels like a movie.

@@jedieknight72 I like the original delivery of Angela more, but prefer everything else with the remake. There's an unpatched version of this scene in the remake where the lighting is MUCH more orange, and it really affects how the rebuke of James is conveyed. I think they toned it down for visibility reasons, which is a bit of a shame. The voice work in the remake is undeniably incredible. It has the intent of the original delivery, but it also has the distraught resignation of someone who is ready to end it all. It's really hard to totally understand if you watch the scene for the first time. It's way more subtle, but I kind of prefer how much more obvious the delivery of the original was. I acutally think just about everything in the remake was more subtle than the original, except for some puzzles. Also disagree with OP on the fact that she is less kind to him in the OG. She clearly apologized to him in the OG but does not in the remake.

That hits so much harder to me.

You're seeing body language versus facial expressions and choosing to say this. The OG had to rely on exaggerated body language because the technology to animate subtle or intricate expressions did not exist. The remake encapsulates James' helplessness here through the defeat in his face when Angela confronts and denies his help, and the emptiness in his expression as he stumbles away from her. He feels hopeless and helpless. Again, there is nothing he can do for someone suffering in a way that cannot be saved or helped and that's clearly expressed in the remake. His personality is fairly different. I can say that much. In the OG he's a lot more vocal and emotionally expressive with his voice. But they were going for a David Lynch style of dialogue style/delivery. In the remake, that's not the case and they opted for something much more somber and depressive. James definitely plays as a depressed asshole in the remake, and it still fits the narration perfectly well. He isn't some emotionless robot, either. He's pretty consistently expressing guilt, shock, fear and anguish IN HIS FACE. He even gets paler as the game plays on, his eyes grow darker. When you find out he killed Mary, and when he understands that he did, he will no longer look at the player in the menu. He looks away in shame. The subtleties were not lost, they're expressed differently. I love the OG and the remake. Yes, they have a different vibe to how their characters are portrayed and it's a matter of choice. But the remake did not miss the mark at all. They just didnt come at the characterization from a camp angle like the OG

It's more dramatic, but I like the faster version better. Secondly, you can see the flames grow and envelop Angela in OG - instead of cutting away from (and back to) magically bigger flames out of nowhere in the remake. I also hate that remake James immediately walks out of the room. Conversely, I like the bitter contradiction of the OG. James will claim he'd never off himself, and yet, via "In Water", he claims that offing himself was the main reason he's here in the first place. Lastly, I prefer OG Angela's "Always like this delivery". But hey, maybe that's just me.

Then we cut to James looking down, mimicking the player's emotions. Theres mocking anger in Angela's questions, directed at us, something we've never heard before. Remake has Angela sat down in the stairs, face barely changing as she goes from dont pity me to asking questions. All questions asked in a flat monotone as she looks away from the camera (why?). The tone doesn't fit the original lines. Theres mocking, but it sounds like they're mocking the questions more than James/the player. OG Angela's scuff gets turned into a sad sniffle/laugh and more monotone, sad delievery of "thats what I thought", turning the whole chastising scene into another self-pity scene for Angela. I can tell the team did put some effort into the game but even so they miss a lot of things in translation. The sanitization aside, there are many things in James' body language that clue us into the fact he's not the best of persons and Bloober softened James up some on that. The OG Angela notices James is not very empathic to her pain and is focused mostly on himself and comes to terms with that with the "that's what I thought". This sort of shunning is something victims often deal with and some never find their lifeline just as Angela did not find her own. That and the acting is on a whole different scale. The OG may come off as corny at times but you see a whole lot more range of emotions from how Angela can shift from meek, to spiteful, to baby talk. Most of the new VAs just sound like they're reading a script.

You people haven’t actually thought objectively about the acting, it’s just different from what you remember so you think it’s bad. People say the voice acting is monotone, then they say that it’s too dramatic. Well, it can’t be both, so which is it? There’s clearly no common consensus, so some of you are just making shit up. Then say that James’ voice is too nasal, when it has more gravel than even the original… just pulled that out of your ass lol

The voice acting in the remake sounds like 2 Hollywood actors overdoing it. The voice actors in the original sound like real people too far gone to save. The way Angela sounds like she’s regressed to childhood in the original and how her voice slowly transforms from innocence to incredulity is completely lost from this version. An integral part of her character - when she says don’t pity me, she mocks James and the player (camera switches to first person) with derision, her voice becomes mocking when she says will you love me - all that’s gone here. Also - a fire barrier moves between the characters in the original - almost a physical representation of how there’s no way of saving Angela - again because James walks away in the cutscene here it takes agency from the player.

Setting aside me spiting the design of having Remake Angela storing chestnuts in her cheeks for winter and making her look more like a kid... The dead energy she goes with in the scene is certainly a fine take. I don't hate it. But I think it still comes off as flat some lines more than emotionless. But, still, I Think it's fine. OG Angela still takes the cake as she acts out more determined with her unhinged drive that got her that far, but it drains over time into "dead inside" energy. Makes the scenes more intense and then depressing. Even the camera angles on her are more intense. Side note, I actually like Remake James. I think he did the best job in the game. I know a lot of OG fans don't like the direction all the characters were taken, but I think he did the best for what he was given to do. Though, I don't like in this scene how it he immediately leaves. Wish he would at least linger longer.

The original Angela nailed the character better. The sudden switches in her mood and the feeling of disassociation in her actions like she's masking it all along. The remake angela is very tired and depressed and seems wants to end it all. It is not nostalgia for me but I'd like how OG Jame's feel disassociated through the tone of his voice he sounds naive and confused and always questions his actions. The remake James is just going on one direction sad & depressed.

God the remake just feels so soulless. I've never even played the og SH2, but from this video alone, you can forgive its short comings cuz of the hardware limitations for the time. The remake has no excuses, especially with its dull voice acting, which seems to be an issue for recent AAA games for some reason.

the voice of the remake Maria is so calm and collected while the OG Maria is fragile, seductive, and kinda manipulative. The suit of the Remake Maria has a strong vibe, the red leather jacket makes her so strong while in the OG Maria, the RED cardigan really suits her and makes her weak and helpless/vulnerable. I empathize with OG Maria in the Elevator scene. Kinda sad that they remove her scream in the elevator scene in the Remake. Well anyway love it overall but there's a but haha.

I think the original was more off because the original idea was to make it feel like Twin Peaks and have things feel incredibly dissonant to a degree. I don't dislike the OG voices myself, in fact I think they're great, but the new voice actors are doing a good job here to try and realise Silent Hill in a more grounded fashion The people having such a massive problem with the remake voice actors are annoying to be honest. Her tone is boring AF with no range in the remake. That's it. It's like they told the actress "Your character is depressed." and that's it. They gave her a stereotypical tone. New generation of fans can only get into things at a surface level. They are unable to feel or understand anything unless it's cliche and stereotypical. You all should be disappointed you lack the understanding of humans. It's like this. If you people are not convinced, then it's not true to you that this person is going through something horrible. Modern fans - Depressed = sad and bored with no range to their tone because that's the only way a depressed person can be.
