I discovered you only recently. Please allow me to compliment you on your teachings style as well as your techniques. I love that you show how to do it correctly not just quickly. Stitching that hem before cutting, rather than cutting first and trying to double-fold as you go is brilliant! And I think it takes less time. It is for sure more accurate. The newest style for guys is wearing shirts untucked. But conventional shirts are made longer for tucking. So they are selling shorter shirts made expressly for being worn untucked. This technique will save me hundreds of dollars. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing this video! Much appreciated. Your teaching style is clear and concise. The one minor thing (and this is probably my fault) is that viewing the video on a phone, it’s hard to see some of the details. A little more light, and perhaps a few closeups at key times would help. But perhaps if I just viewed this on my computer, it would be better, so that criticism might be unfair. Either way, thank you so much for taking the time to post this!!

I wonder if you might have any advice about a straight hem casual dress shirt. I followed these instructions which worked well except where your tabs were my shirt has side slit vents. I opened the seam slit up higher to accommodate the shortening but above the slit the shirt had very rough hems unfinished edges.

Thank you for this excellent video. Would you please tell me why you did not press the seam before you first stithced and cut, and then again when you folded and ran the next stitching run?
@AngelaWoolsey4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t press the shirt until I was finished because it really didn’t require it and it would make the job take longer. You only really need to press it at the very end. When I teach someone how to do an alteration, I try to make it as quick and easy as possible while still doing it right. I have done a couple of “easy Peazy” videos that are easier and faster but not exactly what I consider “correctly done”

@AngelaWoolsey3 жыл бұрын
When I cut the shirt, I try to get the hole close to the hem where it would be either tucked under or completely cut off. You could always stitch it closed from the underside but I would not remove the stitches because then you would just have a hole in your shirt

@ronniejones82254 жыл бұрын
I got lost at the end . You went back over it again?
@AngelaWoolsey4 жыл бұрын
Ronnie Jones Yes. When you hem a woven fabric you have to fold it twice so that the raw edges aren’t exposed, or you’ll have threads hanging out. The first time I sewed, it was for the first fold. I trimmed the excess fabric off, folded and sewed it again to hide the exposed threads.
@LuckyRufey3 жыл бұрын
If you’re going to wear the shirt out, she’s right the button will be too close to the bottom of the shirt and will look weird. If you are going to wear the shirt tucked in like she said… then what’s the point in shortening the shirt to begin with?!
