Nice reaction! On the piano is the co-writer of the song, Toby Gad. Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. The man that she was in love with had just broken up with her. Per Toby, he played it for Beyonce one day and she really wanted to sing and use this song, and the rest you say is history. Angelina and Toby have been working together for a while now and are creating new music for her to sing. I got tickled when your mouth was hanging open listening to Angelina singing this. You didn’t mention that the whole first part was a cappella and every note was perfect. The previous video released she didn’t have an a cappella part so that you couldn’t hear the echoes from the rafters like you can in this take. She and Toby have collaborated on eight more songs already finished, and she just announced another concert in September in LA. Apparently it is going to be all new songs that she and Toby have cowritten.

The song was written by BC Jean and Toby Gad and sung by BC Jean. Beyoncé later covered it and the song became world famous. Angelina Jordan now upgraded it.

Tobi Gad, co-writer of the song and pianist in this performance, chose AJ specifically to re-interprete this song for his "Piano Diaries" album, available now. There's another version with more pop instrumentation designated the 'official music video'. We also know he and Angelina are working on even more to be released in the next couple months. Should be a treasure chest of material for reactors.

@tomrogers1305 From a recent interview with Toby, he started working with Angelina when she was 16. They completed 8 songs prior to the release of her Old Enough EP. None of those songs ended up on the EP. One of them, Bad Valentine, will finally be released soon.

I love this version of HER song. The acapella start takes this to a different level. I'm glad they did this taking advantage of the natural acoustics of the church. You should also do the Piano Diaries version as that one will be the release version. Toby Gad is quoted saying, “Working with Angelina has been nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to channel profound emotion through her voice adds a whole new depth to the song.”

When you combine the best interpreter of lyrics I’ve ever heard with the best voice I’ve ever heard, the result is pretty stunning. And she can do this across multiple genres. Treat yourself to a completely different Angelina in a jazzy, bluesy performance with some real attitude: watch Bad Valentine, an original by Angelina and Toby. The performance was live at a small jazz club. Angelina really lets go on this one, and it’s a song everyone is going to remember for a long time. Not sure if I mentioned this before but as some others say you must watch "Bad Valentine" an original song by Angelina and Toby Gad but you need to find it on James Thiels KZbin channel. He has the only video approved by the copyright owner for viewing. Love the acapella start of this version. Great reaction

Love your take on Angelina, life too. I think what comes from inside is as stunning as her physical talent. You will be shocked when you do "Bad Valentine"---I guarantee it. I think it is the only time I have heard her sing a song as "the bad guy". Lots of sass and attitude, a little more belting--live, set to strings and piano. I have never heard her like this. Angelina flexes her music muscle a wee bit here. To me, it's like she was singing 'cursive style' to a song that I only know from a 'printed style' performance. Her voice is like audio calligraphy. (you sparkle more than you know)

If I Was A Boy, written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally sang by Jean later Covered by Beyoncé, Toby Gad mentioned that he chose Angelina to reinvent his song, he mentioned Angelina has the emotional attachment he is is looking for, Angelina and Toby are working on new material together which is exciting for us angels,there are several renditions by Angelina,one being Angelina’s music video where she is gracing the streets of London U k singing this song, Angelina and Toby dropped a new original called ( Bad Valentine) which is phenomenal, Toby on piano in this performance, great reaction thanks 🙏

What astounds me is Angelina's ability to carry a melody a cappella then arrive perfectly in tune when the instruments come in. Her talent comes along once in a generation. I just hope she is taking enough time to rest her voice because I want her to have a long, long career. She's a precious person! PS. Er lud AJ ein für sein Album Piano diaries If I were a boy neu zu interpretieren. Er arbeitet mit AJ zusammen und sie werden demnöchst einige Lieder veröffentlichen. Ein Vorgeschmack davon ist ‚Bad Valentine‘ das sie in einem Hotelcafe live gespielt hatten. Das Video wurde mit Erlaubnis von Toby zur Veröffentlichung frei gegeben. @@jacquelinevanbierk Er hatte unter anderm im Juni im Londoner Palladium einen Auftritt mit AJ, die dort If I were a boy sang. Er erzählte die Geschichte, wie der Song entstanden ist. BC Jean war diejenige, die die Erfahrungen mit einem Jungen machte, den sie liebte und der mit ihr Schluss machte. Daraufhin sagte sie zu Toby als sie zu einer Pizzeria gingen, if I were a boy then... und Toby meinte..vergiss die Pizza..das ist ein Songtitel...lass uns das weiterspinnen. ;-) BC Jean war dann auch die erste, die das Lied sang und Bejonce wollte ihn dann haben.

I don't know how to define she anymore, it's simply a continuous amazement of warm and powerful tones, whispers and breaths, accompanied by phrasing techniques and musical dynamics that she has always had, but which she is developing in a wonderful way as she goes by of time and is truly addictive. What can I say, this is a new and fantastic live version of the song, with the wonderful echoes of the church that make it even more magical her voice, I would listen endlessly to her wonderful and powerful voice with that incredible low register of her and those wonderful progressions, I admire her fantastic musical sensitivity more and more, it seems impossible, but every song, simple or complex, which she rediscover becomes a new and splendid song. For me she is simply unique and with an incredible melodic perception. I love this composed and passionate performance, it's absolutely healing for the soul but even so crossed by an incredible musical power and structure, I love when in the second part, the soft background accompaniment of the piano and cello gives a wonderful and silky backdrop at her incredible voice. 💛🧡❤

When you react to Bad Valentine, please be aware that it is a follow up to Now I’m the Fool, and if you watch the version with lyrics, the line should read “I thought I told you I would mess up girl, I warned you right from the start”, not what is posted on the video. They are two songs about unrequited love written from opposite perspectives by Angelina Jordan. Everyone assumes Jordan is the bad valentine because she starts out singing “I stood you up on Valentines”. Go back and listen to Now I’m the Fool, which she sings in a hurt, feminine voice, and then immediately listen to Bad Valentine, which she sings in a strong, more masculine voice and see what you think. Only this young genius would think to write two songs about the same love relationship from the perspectives of both people in the relationship, and sing both parts herself!

❤️❤️❤️❤️👣 This is one of two versions she sang in this setting. Another version has music throughout and is also magnificent. Then there is a version with her walking through London streets. Then, there are three versions at small venues, one backstage during an interview with Toby and Angelina. All are fantastic. This version was called the acapella version.

The other Piano Diaries version was edited by Toby Gad and is better than this one. Not that there is one thing wrong with this one

if she were a boy, that dress probably wouldn't fit quite as well, but maybe that's just me....Toby is the piano player and the author of this song, who was recreating some of his best songs for a careet retrospective...He specifically wrote the song Bad Valentine for her, and while the official video has not been released yet, there are vids of it on KZbin...My guess is that an official video will be released before her September 20 concert in LA.
