Well said...I am 77 years old and I have been in shock from listening to Angelina’s performances these past two years. I have listened to many of these dozens of times and I am never tired of hearing them...over and over. I feel it is the emotional content I yearn for. Few artists over the years have interpreted the lyrics with a fraction of the emotion that Angelina exhibits in almost every performance. Little wonder, then, that her covers are usually better than the original. In listening to the music her family played in her early years, she “acquired” the inner expression or “language” as it were, of the soulful sounds. This “language” became part of her, and she expresses it without effort, naturally, as if she had added another spoken language like a polyglot. I don’t have any other explanation. I just know that when she sings, I just get swept up and follow her story in song! What a wonderful feeling...every time! Thanks for your reaction!

Absolutely correct!! Couldn't agree more!! I reckon that she heard jazz and blues every day since she was a week or 2 old. And she grew into jazz just like she grew her arms!! Her grandmother, Meri Zamari, originally from Iran, is an artist in her own right and is heavily into jazz. And I believe she has always lived under the same roof as AJ as part of the extended family

@@thealanpapier Yes, and how many kids spend their free time as a 7 or 8 year old at the local jazz cafe listening to the greats on record and disc, then come home and do the same on KZbin? I'm pretty sure as a 7 year old I was just playing in the dirt with a stick :-)

72 here and Angelina is the first artist to ever have this affect on me. Sorry to see she has been missing and that it may be a while before we hear her again until Republic releases her new album. Omer Michael Bhatti aka obee 01was not Michael Jackson's son but rather a rabid fan who built his career emulating Jackson. Yes, she's not stressed. She's bored, tired of waiting. I love the way she gives a command to start the music. And her front teeth! As you probably know, she said once that she's never anxious when she sings, that when she sings it's "pure happiness." I think he says "Welcome," and she says, "Tak," thank you.

Alan, I have listened to both of your commentaries on performances by Angelina Jordan. Your approach is really welcome to those of us who have been blessed to be listening to this amazing artist for some time. Your focus and in depth discussion on each song you select to comment on is appreciated. You do your research and add context to what you are seeing and hearing.I am 75 years old and grew up listening to the music of the 50's and the 60's. I listened and enjoyed the music of stars like Sinatra, Elvis, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald.Roberta Flack, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Judy Collins. Nothing I ever heard however prepared me for my introduction to the voice and delivery of Angelina Jordan. I first heard her at the AGT in the US performing her version of Bohemian Rhapsody and was blown away. Since then I have been listening only to her. Her library of work, even at this young age, is varied and extensive. I have an Angelina Jordan playlist on my phone and it is all the encouragement I need each morning to hit the pavement for my daily 4 mile walk. I put my ear buds in, hit play and I am literally transported to a world that contains just the two of us. She is a once in a lifetime talent destined to join the pantheon of all time greats and I eagerly await what she has in store for us as she moves into the next phase of her career. I look forward to your future commentaries and welcome to the AJ world.

Hi Bill I only discovered AJ myself in mid May!! Like you, I only listen to her to the exclusion of all other artists. I am your generation- born in 1948. Retired, I have plenty of time to indulge my indulgences. I find, especially since I became a KZbinr 10 days ago, that the AJ rabbit hole is really a palace. It has jewels and experts in every corner, it is totally spacious and it even has secret tunnels going off in all directions. It's like the salt mines in Poland where the miners have carved a cathedral underground out of the salt and where weddings are held!! Video #3 was aired yesterday. It already has a huge head of momentum. #4 was recorded yesterday and will be online Saturday. I have taken 20-30 seconds of 8 different moments in 8 different songs which are sublime with commentary. The result is a cross section of how she has mastered all styles. #5 I will have a tour from Bob Dylan to AJ. And so it goes on. Needless to say, I have an acute case of Norwegian insomnia.

@@thealanpapier You have your work cut out for you, hopefully it will remain a labor of love. Bob Dylan is an interesting point of reference. I have always considered Dylan, along with Leonard Cohen the best singer/songwriters of my lifetime. I never embraced the vocals of Dylan or Cohen as I have the vocal ability of our barefoot princess. I listen to her sing her own songs, "What Is Life", "Shield", and "Oslo"a lot. There is the AJ magic in the vocals and some of the lyrics are truly breathtaking, especially considering she was only 11 or 12 when she wrote them. I am looking forwrd to hearing more of her own creations as she matures.

Upon discovering Angelina on AGT the Champions I went on to watch everything I could find on her within a two week period. I have seen hundreds of reactors cover her since then and since then I have listened to her everyday. What you said about her singing "Hurt" is spot on. Timingwise I don't think she would have had such such a runaway success at 5 or 6 years. It's astonishing to see how much she evolved from 6 to 7 and during the show. People began urging her to join talent competitions from age of 3. But she said, no I'm not ready yet. Interesting such a little girl has enough self conscience to say that. Apparently at age 5 she asked her mum to sign her up, who then took up the part of saying no you're not ready yet. I try to imagine, how would I handle it myself with a child of my own? Not an easy call.

Finally! Someone who gets it. I have long believed that Angelina's most important talent is her ability to understand songs, get down to the roots of them and then use her voice to give that understanding to the listener. If I were a song writer, I'd be begging her to sing my songs. She conveys the emotion of the song to the listener and that is a rare ability.

Thanks for your reaction. She won Norwegian talents at the age of 8, and is predicted to become the next superstar! She is also known for being able to adjust the voice to which genre she sings. She has approx. 130 covers on KZbin + 3 originals. Angelina Jordan - Date of birth: January 10, 2006 (age 14 years), Born and raised in Oslo, Norway; this world-renowned singer has earned fantastic reviews for the amazing breadth, depth and maturity of her vocal talent that simply belies her young age. Something you might have noticed is that Angelina always performs barefoot!!! When Angelina was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age when she was traveling in the Middle East. The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Angelina then “vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them.” She keeps that promise to this day, as she says that little girl “is always in my heart.” - Angelina said she asked the little girl what her dream was, and the girl responded that she wanted to be a doctor. Angelina told her to “never give up.” In return, the girl told Angelina she would pray for her, and asked her to “remember me.” She might as well sing in a bad cellphone microphone, without a microphone, or to collaborate with professional musicians. She does not need any autotune or digital aids to sing. It is real song in an otherwise polished world. She just sings because it's her passion. Angelina’s videos have received over "over 600 Million views on youtube & over 2 Billion views on Facebook." Amazingly, her passion for music began at just one-and- a-half years of age when Angelina first saw Whitney Houston on KZbin performing I Will Always Love You. Whitney - and later Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington - became her first major musical influences. At the age of seven, Angelina auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent performing Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She won the competition with the show drawing record TV audiences. Not surprisingly, throughout her rising career, Angelina has featured in prominent media outlets including TIME, CNN, BBC, and People while also performing on the U.S. network TV shows Little Big Shots and The View. In 2016, Avicii chose Angelina for the vocals on his worldwide Volvo commercial campaign, a brilliant cover of Nina Simone’s Feeling Good. As well as singing before Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, charitable causes to which Angelina has given her talent include the Rainforest Alliance at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and Ein Herz für Kinder in Berlin where she helped raise over 21 Million Euros for children and families in need. Everyone in the music industry knows who she is, but the family and herself want her to grow up as normal as possible. Among other things, they said no to Disney! This multi-talented singing prodigy has also written a successful, illustrated children’s book in her native Norway making Angelina the youngest published author in the country’s history. Today she is 14 years old and has over 126 covers and 3 originals on KZbin. She has already managed to collaborate with the biggest in the music industry, and is considered to be a future megarstar.The family and herself want to take it easy in the musical development because of her young age. NOTE! Angelina is independent and owns the rights herself. Angelina Jordan INC. She and her family take it easy because of her young age. Angelina wants total ownership over her creativity, without compromise. She / family said no to Disney, among other things. She attends some major foundrising concerts. Rumor has it that she is coming up with her own album this year. Why didn't Angelina Jordan win AGT champions? It's because she refused to sign with "Fremantle" when it came to ownership of the version of the performance of the songs.They told her she wasn't gonna win if she didn't. Well. She didn't win. and how to determine the best talent of a singer, magician or dance group, but I think they were aware of this, but still wanted her to attend to bring as many viewers as possible. Then there was no way she could win. The entire acclaimed music industry knows who she is, and she was invited to sing for Quincy Jones during his 85th birthday at O2 Arena London kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX7OqKKnirOBoac . She has also collaborated with David Foster, Gene Simmons, Alan Walker. In addition to singing at the Nobel Prize concert 8 year old. This is just something from her résumé at 14 years old and the list is much longer. Note! She is also Norway's youngest author with published book 9 years old! 10 Years old her !!! She can actually sing all genres, try this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXSWd2OYgLCeabc - TRXD - Above The Water (Lyrics) ft. Angelina Jordan It's electronic dance music, and she was wanted as a guest vocal on their record. The only thing I have not heard her sing is opera and rap. (Google translate)

Thanks for this reaction. It is refreshing to have reactions that are not 'first time watching', or in some way 'fashionable'. I think you are also the first to do exclusively one artist. I don't think you will have any lack of grist :-) Angelina's confidence comes from her innate ability to know when it is 'right'. You can see that from her 6 yo studio sessions. Early on in her career I said that Angelina doesn't do covers she does hostile take-over's. When she sings a song she makes it hers. You may vaguely recall someone else involved with the song, but that doesn't matter that much since Angelina has sung it. Alan, I think that it is our lives that have changed never to be the same. I will agree her career arc will have changed, but her personal life changed very little. I think of all the new young stars appearing in the heavens today, they've managed to stay out of trouble. But this is a ruthless business. I am sorry I'm not making much sense but I need to take some pain meds I've lost track of time and when they stop working, well it's not pretty. You may be interested to know that Angelina has just signed with Republic Records as their number one priority new artist! She had previous turned down dozens of the biggest people in the industry. This is a huge landmark and we all knew it was coming eventually. This label also has Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Ariana grande, Jonas Brothers and more. We hear that she is generally signing on her own terms hopefully meaning a good deal of freedom.

I was sure (for about 3 hours) that the newly released "Million Miles" was also about her father until I saw her own explanation which was that it was about her grandfather. I love this COMMENTARY, not so much a first-listening reaction because your commentary delivers soooo much more. This is the enhancement I've been hoping for 'down the Angelina rabbit hole' and I hope you can keep this up. I'll be wondered if you'll compare her Two-Covers-Versions of songs - like SUMMERTIME TV vs. SUMMERTIME Live Orchestra. Or FEELING GOOD TV vs. the outdoor park-festival version. The very young First American TV Appearance of her FLY ME TO THE MOON with a solo guitarist backing her, vs. the MTV-Video, mud-splatter an' all. The temptation call one Favorite (as opposed to 'best' whatever that means) is there but I find it more interesting to listen to both. When you get to PUT A SPELL, I hope you can dig around and find how often she rehearsed with her accompanying musicians, and how many dropped their instruments went they heard her 'let go'. We see that almost-reaction in her IT'S A MAN'S WORLD when, near the climatic end, the orchestra's conductor is so wow'd that he steps back to catch himself and we see his cheeks smile hugely as he regains composure.

You have a new subscriber but BEWARE! This is a long comment. I hope you have the patience to read to the end. Thank you for discovering and reacting to my favourite singer. I'm delighted that she is going to be the focus of your channel. My ears tell me that you said the young male judge was Michael Jackson's son! If I heard that correctly, then you are mistaken. I am not certain of the circumstances but I understand that he stayed at Michael Jacksons property on at least one occasion. You also mentioned her performance of "Hurt" and how raw her singing was at the age of 6. She performed several songs between 5 and 6 and her 4th visit to a recording studio is the most impressive. Here is the link: age 6 - "I who have nothing": kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJu0i354pbuUm9U The performance you have just featured was my introduction to Angelina, too and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on KZbin and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williamns, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. If you go to kzbin.info/door/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig you will find many rehearsals where, not only do you get to see her rehearsing but being the "ordinary" girl she is (if indeed one is able to apply that adjective to her). Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with background music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world. Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions One thing which several of the new reactors - and those who have returned to her have decided, is to follow her career from the start. If you should decide to do the same, go to Rusty Shackleford's website and look at the list he has compiled of Angelina songs in chronological order.Rusty Shackleford - Chronological order kzbin.info/door/55am_6Y5-Fj4ri8xOInstA

@thealanpapier
@thealanpapier 4 жыл бұрын
Hi J, I have a theory about that. 1 Most over 50s are more familiar with music from 1940-1970 and that's where much of her repertoire comes from. 2 With maturing years, one (hopefully) is more able to access/tune in/appreciate the emotional richness/nuances of life. Step right up to the microphone, Miss Angelina Jordan. 3 AJ is profoundly humble as a human being. That shines through in everything she does. The older generation can read that and appreciate that. My wife and yours should go out for coffee- they have something in common. But more to the point, just tell her, "I'm just trying to expand my emotional repertoire" Most women are happy if their man goes in that direction

Hmm. An odd, sudden ending to this video. Was that a mistake, or did you cut the recording at that point because you went right into the next reaction and wanted to post them separately? Anyway, a fine effort for your first-ever YT reaction video. Looking forward to the next one. Note that some people don't like "reactions" that aren't first-time listens, so you might consider indicating that upfront in the title. Something like: "…Reaction Video (not my first time hearing this)", or "Reaction/Review (not a first listen)" - or whatever. It might reduce the chances of getting unnecessary "disikes". Also, in your next video, perhaps you could give a little background on yourself, so we know where you're coming from (e.g., in addition to the obvious - how and when you first came across Angelina - you could say where you live [generally], what you do/did for a living [if that's at all relevant], what types of music and/or what other musicians you like, etc.). We don't need to know everything, but a little context might help people to "connect" with you.

Good comment! Thanks for that. You've given me a lot to think about. My only priority was to make this about AJ. I did not think it necessary to add anything about myself and dilute the focus away from her. I am not wishing to make an income from YT or promote a product or my own musical album. I'm not too worried about dislikes. They're probably inevitable. You're right. The last 15 seconds of my video have been chopped off. Didn't notice that. I'll have to get my daughter to do the editing in the morning. Actually, I was going to title this video, Not a First Reaction' but my daughter suggested that might be confusing. I've done a lot of amateur 'research' around AJ. There is so much detail to be added to some of her videos to make them even richer that I think it can be a welcome change to first reactions It's very interesting how I came across AJ. In early April, there was a lock down cover of the Foo Fighters' Times Like These. One of the artists featured was Sigrid- a wonderfully gifted free spirit of a pop singer. Under her comments section, I read there was a whole explosion of other Norwegian singers. And the rest is history
